FTN Episode 165 – What is your favorite GW boxed game? Oct 14, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareBlood Bowl is back and from the reports we’ve heard about it is going to get a lot of support from GW. I have no idea why a game about American Football created by Brits is so good… but it is!

    Hey guys,

The first segment we chat a bit about how to save time when putting together and painting your genestealer cult army list by adding in some figures you already have that have synergy with the army. This can be as easy as adding in a few flying Hive Tyrants. Unlike a lot of horde armies the GSC pack a pretty good punch. You aren’t looking to rely just on your number of bodies.

We are also pretty excited for the new Blood Bowl game. The figures look great. The game design has always been solid. To have this back in plastic and supported is great! GW is really giving us what we’re asking for product wise. I have a few star players that I am anxious to get back on the pitch.

In the second half of the show we get our hands on a listener submitted Ork list. You heard that right, orks.. They lack a lot of the fancy bells and whistles that some of the other armies have but the proposed list has a bit of straight forward design that could possibly give the power lists out there some issues.

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Gamemat.eu. Their Industrial Terrain set is great and they offer a product that is pre-painted. This, combined with their mats, is a great way to get playing with professional looking game boards fast.

The hobby segment is all about basing. Before your figure is done you’ve gotta base it. I suggest three different elements on the base to really help the over all look of your figures. This is easier than you think. The GW textured paints are a prefect start but there are plenty of quick out of the box solutions for this. We hope you enjoy the segment!

FTN Episode 164 – Inquisition and Genestealer Cults – A Match Made in Heaven Oct 09, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareWe talk about two different army lists today – The Genestealer Cult secret sauce and a very aggressive Blood Angel force.

    Yo,

The Genestealer Cult army is incredibly powerful and believe when I say it is going to shift the meta. The established army lists are going to have to make adjustments to stay on top.

This sort of change gives opportunity to all armies. With the ‘top’ lists having to adjust and possibly mess with their overall efficiency to compensate for this new threat.

This new army has a whole host new special rules and tactics that we have never seen before. That means players and opponents are going to be unfamiliar with them. I see a distinct possibility that GSC players are going to be able to completely roll opponents out of nowhere. This is a dex that you are going to want to be familiar with on tournament day. Know your enemy…

We go over a couple of beardy list in this episode. Neither are optimized 100% but it should definitely give you an idea of what to expect to see soon. One list is Genestealers paired with IG and Inquisition (don’t hate me) and the other if a Blood Angel list taking advantage of a formation loophole.

The Finishing Moves segment is all about Squad Markings. Stuff like this is going to become essential as the game evolves. This Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Raging Heroes. If you are looking for a nice way to spice up your collection or character models please check them out.

FTN – Mindworm Games and Death Ray Designs Vendor Spotlight Oct 07, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareWe have a regular show coming soon but in the meantime please check out this special episode where we get to speak with two of the best independent vendors out there.

    Yo Everyone,

The first segment Justin Troop and I get to speak with Benson Green from Mindworm Games about his first product, Exiles. The Weird West is here! I am lobbying for giant spiders.

Exiles is a Weird West Skirmish Miniatures Roleplaying Game. This game is, from top to bottom, focused on the player experience. The game is irreverent, nostalgic and a lot of fun. Please check them out. The main character types in the game are taken directly from the old style dime novels and spaghetti westerns. The game is fast paced and easy to learn. Those two things make it a great way to spend a night.

The next segment is with Austin Thompson from Death Ray Designs.

These guys have some amazing sets of laser cut terrain pieces. What I love about this is that there is enough of each theme to fill out a whole table – and it doesn’t break the bank.

We talk about this a bit on the show but one of the coolest things about this terrain is how well it assembles and paints up. It goes well on any sort of gaming mat or a traditional flocked game board. Seriously… check these guys out. These pieces have been designed with gaming and pliability in mind from start to finish.

Please, please check these guys out.

FTN Episode 163 – Are the Cults Better than Eldar?! Sep 29, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareThe Genestealer Cults have infiltrated our podcast and we think they are going to have a BIG impact on the tournament scene.

    Hey Guys,

Just like you, we were anxious to see what GW had in store for us with a completely new army.

I was a little apprehensive at first thinking it was just going to be a hodge podge of units mashed into a new codex but it isn’t! The Genestealer Cults offers some brand new ways to play with their Return to the Shadows and Cult Ambush rules.

We get right into the thick of it and explain why we think these two rules, combined with a very effective and durable Troop unit, will make an immediate impact on the meta.

For not a lot of points you can have units that bounce on and off of the table – insulating them from taking a ton of casualties, and 17% of the time they can come back on the table and assault.

The assault is quality… A full squad of guys in this Acolyte unit can swing in with 80 RENDING attacks. This is something armies like Tau and Eldar do not want to see. Are these guys finally going to be the balance the game has been waiting for?

FTN Episode 162 – Warzone ATL Preview and the Orbital Intervention Force Sep 23, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareWarzone: Atlanta is coming up quick. In this episode we talk about a couple of our Gold Level sponsors before getting into some Combat Patrol and Blood Angels talk.

    Yo,

Warzone: Atlanta is coming up very soon. It is a sold out event (for the main 40k event on Saturday and Sunday) but our two Friday night events still have space available.

Tickets are on sale right now for the X-Wing tournament and the Horus Hersey Combat Patrol event. These tickets are 10 dollars each and if you purchased a VIP ticket then you can use it for either one.

We have great sponsors and the event wouldn’t be the same without them. We highlight Curled Paw Creatives and Vendetta Games in this episode. These guys have contributed a LOT to the prize pool and I hope you check out there sites. Vendetta is a game store in Dahlonegah GA. If you’re driving into WZ, please check them out! It up there in some beautiful country.

Because we can’t not talk about Blood Angels we discuss the virtues of the Orbital Intervention force compared to the Golden Host. In today’s 40k world having that terminator armor and Storm Shield may win out over our boys in Gold.

We leave that for you to decide. The Combat Patrol event at Warzone is getting a ton of interest and just so everyone is prepared we go over a couple of cheesy lists. But don’t let that scare you, the event is going to be laid back and fun – a nice warm up if you haven’t rolled dice in a while.

    FTN Episode 161 – The Angel’s Blade is Sharp! Sep 18, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareOur Red Grail runneth over in this episode. You better believe we are all about the Blood Angels and the new Angel’s Blade expansion book.

    Hey Guys,

I go ahead and get my apologies out of the way in the first few seconds of the show. Not only is this episode almost completely about Blood Angels but its very possible we didn’t have 100% reliable information during the recording of the show.

I feel like we got most of it dialed in and pinpoint the things that we think are the most powerful with the book. There is some pretty good value here. The formations give people some pretty exciting new ways to units they love.

The Golden Host is the top of the heap here. You get to assault out of deepstrike with some of the hardest jump troops in the game plus the Lord Commander of the Blood Angels himself, Dante! This guy hits like a truck. He’s been a favorite of mine for years and adding this new utility to him is amazing.

Dreadnoughts get some love here too along with Blood Angel Terminators. This is why I say that everyone’s favorite units may be hitting the table soon.

I am not sure where to even start with the Death Company. The D-co got a neat decurion style formation and some pretty powerful relics. The Death Company Chaplain is now an even bigger force multiplier and you get to hear why near the end of the show. Thanks for listening!

FTN Episode 160 – Traitors Gonna Trait and Hollywood Drama In Our Back Yard Sep 09, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareEpisode 160 is here! Carl Tuttle from the Independent Characters joins us for this episode. We also a feature a segment with the man behind Star Trek Axanar, Alec Peters recorded live at Dragon Con!

    Hey Guys,

In the first segment of this episodes I sit down with Alec Peters at Dragon Con in Atlanta, GA. Alec has been on the show before so you may be familiar with his fan film Star Trek Axanar. He’s found himself in the middle of a bit of controversy with Paramount Studios and CBS.

Alec is as candid as he can be about the details of what is going on with the litigation and the support he has gotten from several big name Hollywood people. Hearing about this journey and the overwhelming fan support he has gotten is pretty fascinating. I hope you agree. I always enjoy talking with Alec.

Instead of cutting our normal 40k talk short we ramped it up by bringing in one of the best podcasters alive, Carl Tuttle, from the Independent Characters show. He is a big time Chaos fan and helps us talk about the real winners from the latest codex supplement, Traitor’s Hate.

The big winners here are the are the Chaos Warband formation, that makes everything Objective Secured, the Terminator Annihilation Force and the Raptor Talon.

I don’t think anyone expected to be saying that Raptors or Warp Talons would be making it onto the main stage. The ability to drop in quality squads and then assault the same turn is pretty disruptive. The Terminator formation is surprising too. I think it is going to put a big cramp in the side of some Gladius players.

FTN Bonus Episode 13 – David Annandale – The Horror Doctor Is In! Sep 06, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareCheck out this special Bonus Episode of Forge The Narrative – Black Library author David Annandale joins us.

    Hey Everyone,

Someone said they liked Black Library author content so we pulling out all the stops!

The first half of this show we talk about David’s background and inspiration as a writer. Its pretty fascinating and I hope you guys agree.

David has written for some of the biggest characters in the 40k universe like Typhus, Mephiston, Lemartes, Vulkan, Yarrick and more… Wow. What a roster!

This is a spoiler free episode so if you haven’t read any of the above you’re still in the clear to listen.

It is clear that the Black Library has the best group of writers for any novel/game based property in the business. These guys really embrace the background and the game lore. That equals big time payoffs for us.

FTN Episode 159 – Can Codex Chaos Space Marine Make a Better Gladius?! Sep 02, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareEpisode 159 is here! Warhammer 40k podcast where we combine tactics and hobby talk all in the same place.

    Hey Everyone,

We totally switch gears from the last few shows and turn our eyes on the Chaos Space Marine codex. We have some rumors about what the supplement Traitor’s Hate is going to be but nothing concrete at the time of the recording.

In place of too much rumor talk we get in to a little wish listing around the middle of the show but during the course of this Andrew proposes that Chaos may be able to make a better Gladius with less wasted taxation units if you’re going with a rhino base build. Eh? What the heck? There may actually be some potential here. Personally I think the loyalist marines still have better base rules (that we talk about on the show) but who knows what Traitor’s Hate will hold?

Chris Morgan took a big step this week and bought his first airbrush. We kick around some ideas about what the best air compressor for beginners is. No matter what you hear on the show I still believe in going pretty cheap on your first one. Hit up Harbor Freight, use a coupon, and use it till it breaks.

The Finishing Moves segment this week is about getting started with drilling out barrels on models. I completely suck at this. I did a model recently and posted it on twitter @warmaster_tpm and someone suggested I drill out the barrels.

I asked how?! People were kind enough to share some ideas and we talk about them. The other guys also kick in their experiences to make a pretty cool segment. Please let us know what you’d like us to cover in this segment. We’re going to try and do it every week.

FTN Bonus Episode 12 – Praetorian of Dorn Behind the Scenes! Aug 27, 2016
    Show notes

FTN small squareCheck out this special Bonus Episode of Forge The Narrative – Black Library Bonanza.

    Hey Everyone,

This episode features interviews from John French and Nick Kyme.

The first segment is brand new with John French about his new novel, Praetorian of Dorn. John talks about his inspiration and source material for his first full length Horus Heresy installment. No spoilers here! We also take a deep dive into the minds of Dorn and Perturabo. Are they two sides of the same coin?

We get the smallest glimpse about the backdrop of this epic story taking place inside the boarders of the Emperor’s own turf – the Sol System. See Dorn like you may have never seen him before.

The next segment revisits the interview we did with Nick Kyme a couple of episodes back. If you missed it then here is a perfect opportunity to catch up. Nick talks about his work with the Salamanders and how that legion, and Vulkan, have evolved into what they are today.

The last segment brings up back to John French. We also featured this interview in episode 154. It really makes me glad to see the Horus Heresy in such capable hands of the Black Library authors. These guys really know the game, the lore and how to keep us coming back for more.
