195: The Proven Process to Cultivate a Life of Purpose, Conviction, and Contribution with Steve Olsher Apr 03, 2018
    Show notes

Steve Olsher is a bad-ass entrepreneur who's done nearly everything, even selling speakers out of a van. Motivated by the deep desire to stop simply chasing dollars and start creating positive change, he's become a best-selling author, podcaster, radio host, and speaker, appearing on many media channels including CNN and Huffington Post.

His book What is Your What uncovers the strategies to find your soul's true calling. Your "why" is often something you choose – you want to provide for your family, help the homeless, support the environment, etc. But your "what" is internal, a part of who you are. Your "what" chooses you, rather than being something you have chosen. And to figure out what your "what" is, you simply need to answer three key questions: What is your core gift? What primary vehicle are you going to use to share that gift? Who are the people you're most compelled to serve? Then you've got the tools to go out into the world and make a difference with your unique talents. Go to the website to download your free copy!

Steve was motivated to launch the New Media Summit because he wanted to help those with a great story reach out to more people. The forum is all about teaching how to leverage the power of new media; it gives new entrepreneurs and coaches the opportunity to meet 40 of the world's biggest podcasters and get a spot booked on their shows. Whether you're a podcaster looking for new stories, or an author who wants to reach a wider audience, the New Media Summit is the perfect place to network and grow your business. It's limited to 150 people so you get some personal time with all major influencers. And this year, everyone gets a chance to pitch everyone – this really is an incredible opportunity to expand your brand.

Allison was honored to be one of New Media Summit's Icons of Influence last year. Many of the guests on our show have come from the event. If you want the opportunity to pitch to influencers this year, then don't miss out! The next one is just two weeks away, plus we've scored a huge discount code for you. Go to www.foodhealsnation.com/newmediasummit to sign up, or email info@foodhealsnation.com for more information. This is THE event for networking and connecting with like-minded people, plus dancing (fancy doing the wobble on a 400sqft lit-up dancefloor?) and plenty of drinks. So, what are you waiting for? 194: Why You May Not Know If You Are in an Abusive Relationship (And How To Find Out) Mar 27, 2018
    Show notes

Nearly 60 percent of women aged 18 to 35 have experienced abuse in their relationships and 24 percent of women in abusive relationships have not told anyone they're being harmed.

These types of toxic relationships take a rigorous toll on our health; often causing PTSD & depression and can become extremely dangerous.

In today's episode we will tell the story of survivor and brave soul Rosie Aiello, the abuse she endured, and how she eventually made "the great escape."

Rosie Aiello moved to the Middle East to be with her new husband. On the outside, they had the perfect marriage, but the warning signs where there from the honeymoon.

Isolated, without a support system, emotionally, physically and financially abused, Rosie spent most of her marriage not realizing she was in an abusive relationship; she just thought she wasn't good enough.

But the second she realized her daughter was also being controlled, she set about orchestrating the escape of their lives. Their bid to freedom worked, and they've been back in the US since 2009. Her book 11 Hours to Freedom describes her epic journey from the prison of her marriage to being free and living a joyful life.

It wasn't an easy ride. She came back in the middle of the recession, and finding a job was tough. Rosie didn't let that stop her: she started her own business. She's now an international award-winning entrepreneur, a best-selling author, and a coach for women seeking to escape their abusive relationships and break through into the life they deserve.

Rosie and her daughter are on a global mission to save a million women and children from domestic violence. Because when women are free from the shackles of abuse, they can really thrive. Join their bid for a kinder word through the Love is Kind Movement.

Rosie has created a women empowerment program called the Freedom Fulfilment Formula to help women care for themselves, reclaim their voice, step up, and create they life they dream of. Go to Rosie's website for your free gift!

How do you know if you are in an abusive relationship?

    The undeniable warning signs:

    • Is he always blaming you for everything?
    • Is he controlling the money in any shape or form?
    • Is he making excuses for you not to see your friends or family
    • Is he insulting family and friends
    • Is he making it difficult for you to get out of the house?
    • Look at the patterns – is your partner consistently blaming you? Are they unwilling to listen to your side? Can you resolve conflicts in a mature way?
    • Any physical abuse.

If you're worried you might be in an abusive relationship, you can reach out to Rosie by emailing 11hourstofreedom@gmail.com.

193: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life: How to Release Limiting Beliefs and Step Into the Life You Are Dreaming of Mar 20, 2018
    Show notes

What are you telling yourself day in, day out? Your thoughts shape your reality, and most of us think critical, negative, painful thoughts on a regular basis. It's time to change that; time to release the emotions that keep us stuck in a cycle of pain; time to step into the life we've always dreamed of.

Mindset expert Jolen Philbrook is a survivor. She overcame cancer TWICE. First a rare type of breast cancer, then kidney cancer. And at the same time, she was fighting a custody battle with no income. How did she keep going and get through it all? One word: mindset. Now, having survived, she shares her wisdom to help women live their greatest life. She's a transformational coach and best-selling author of the Gratitude Book Project, and Tears to Triumph. She created the Breakthrough to Prosperity formula to help women clear their emotions and live in an abundant mindset. Her podcast the Inner Abundant Mindset is the go-to show for everything from healing relationships to clearing chakras!

Joie Cheng is a self-love transformation queen, bestselling author, speaker, coach and energy healer, on a mission to inspire women to stop living on auto-pilot and awaken to the life they've always wanted. Like Jolen, Joie is a survivor: she overcame her parent's messy divorce, two near-death experiences, a battle with depression, an abusive relationship, and both her parents' deaths. But through these experiences, she was able to grow her intuition, heal herself naturally and rebuild her life. She's the author of The Naked Truth: A Woman's Journey to Self-Love. Joie has a special gift for Food Heals listeners: the 7-Day Self-Love Challenge – start your journey to self-love and change your life!

Top Tips to Shift Your Mindset:

    • Make the decision: decide you are going to take your power back.
    • Stop talking about the problem: talking about it just keeps you stuck in that painful emotion. Talk about the solution instead—where do you want to be?
    • Counteract your negative thoughts with something positive: say it three times in a row.
    • Get into the feeling of abundance: wear your best clothes, your prettiest shoes, do your hair, strike a power pose.
    • Anytime you hear yourself talking negative, just stop midstream. Tell yourself that whatever that thought is not true. Then state your new belief.
    • Find your community – there's a powerful effect to people coming together for a common purpose
    • Write down the things you love about yourself.
    • Embrace your darkness, those parts of yourself you don't like.
    • Write down what you are grateful for right now – stop focusing on what's lacking in your life and instead concentrate on what you have.
    • Mirror work: Get yourself in front of the mirror and tell yourself how much you love and appreciate yourself.

192: The Truth About Toxins in Your Skincare, Tips For Glowing Skin, & How Worms Can Heal Your Health Mar 13, 2018
    Show notes

Growing up in Romania, Andrea was surrounded by Europe's most gorgeous women who taught her the secret to perfect skin: oils! She gained expert understanding of what makes skin glow thanks to her 8 years as a cosmetic surgical intern. Paired with her philosophy of simplicity and good health, she created an ethical, raw, organic and unprocessed skincare range with her husband Cameron: Apothecary 90291 was born!

Our skin is our biggest organ. And yet every day the average American woman comes into contact with over 500 different chemicals: from make-up, shower gel, laundry liquids, clothes, moisturizer, etc. Heavy metals, plastics, pesticides—all these go into your body. They might be trace amounts, but every day they bio-accumulate in tissues and cells, and can eventually lead to chronic health problems.

It's crazy to think that while in Europe over 1,600 skincare chemicals are banned or heavily regulated, only 30 are (partially) banned in the United States! Why isn't our government protecting us from these toxins? Cameron's answer: Follow the money. Who's profiting from this?

The same goes for the medical profession. Cameron had to stand up to doctors who tried to force him and even trick him into having unnecessary surgery. But thanks to his wife, he was able to find a treatment plan that was right for him and learn about other less-invasive options out there… and one of the natural treatments involves worms! Tune in to find out more!

Tips for cleaning up your skincare:

    • If you can't read or pronounce the ingredients, avoid it
    • Avoid mineral oils (they're petroleum based)
    • Avoid fragrance oils (they're extracted through hexane, a toxic chemical)
    • Stick to steam distilled essential oils and plant-based oils
    • Buy from farm-to-face companies

    SPECIAL OFFER:

We use Apothecary 90291 products and LOVE them. Get a generous 20% off with coupon foodheals!

191: Strength for Parents of Missing Children: Surviving Abduction & Discovering Your Resilience Mar 06, 2018
    Show notes

The loss of a child is one of the most unimaginable experiences a parent can go through. And that's exactly what happened to Marie White. Three and a half years ago, her toddler was abducted. As of this writing, her child is still missing. This tragic occurrence is more common than you might think, in fact, 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States -- that's roughly 2,000 per day. This can destroy families, lead to failed marriages and often lead to suicide.

But todays interview is a tale of resilience.

Marie has not seen her child in almost four years. And yet, instead of sinking into despair, Marie turned her pain into her purpose. Noticing that there were no resources to help people like her, she decided to be a beacon of light for parents who had lost a child, whether through divorce, illness, or abduction. She started a YouTube channel and has written five books dedicated to helping parents back to strength after trauma, including the best seller Strength for Parents of Missing Children.

190: Cancer Can Be Killed: New Film Exposes the Truth with Director Jeff Witzeman Feb 20, 2018
    Show notes

Three years ago, Jeff's wife was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. She was told her life would change forever: surgery, chemo, radiation, a life without an essential organ. They decided not to take the doctor's word for it, and travelled to Germany to treat the cancer naturally. Juicing, plant-based meals, hypothermia (targeted heat therapy), oxygen therapy, intravenous vitamins, minerals and amino acids, colonics—it was like a spa, with a difference. Within 30 days, she was completely cancer free.

She's not an isolated case. Natural cancer therapies have an 80 to 90% success rate. And yet, when Jeff went to the newspapers to share this story and inspire hope, he was turned down time after time. Western medicine is a business, and it can't profit from a natural cure for cancer. The system is rigged to support big pharma: in the US, clinical trials are only performed on drugs, alternative therapies are never tested. The only cancer treatments to get any major media airtime are pharmaceutical options. Jeff didn't let that stop him, he made the film Cancer Can Be Killed to share the truth about healing cancer. It will also be shown at the Sonoma International Film Festival in March.

And the truth is that curing cancer is a journey. It's not as simple as just eating this food or taking this supplement. Cancer is a manifestation of things being out of balance—that could be your diet, your emotions, past trauma, not standing up for yourself, constant self-criticism, unexpressed anger. Healing must involve mind, body and spirit.

    Natural Ways to Kill Cancer

    • Hyperthermia: cancer cells can't survive above 105 degrees. By simply heating the area where the tumor is, you can kill the cancer cells. This treatment has a 90% success rate. Some US providers will do it, you can also go to Mexico or Germany to have the treatment.
    • Remove toxicity from your life: unresolved conflict and unaddressed emotional issues block your body from detoxing, which creates the perfect environment for cancer. Look at where your life is out of balance—food, relationships, career, self-criticism, pent-up emotions—and take time to heal.
    • Go on a plant-based diet: create an alkaline environment in your body by filling your plate with plenty of vegetables, beans, fruits, probiotics, and fermented foods.
    • Clean up your diet: Get off sugar, red meat, processed foods and anything fizzy.
    • Find out what's going on: If you know what's going on in your body, you can treat it. RGCC testing will show you which substances work with your immune system to kill your cancer cells.
    • Take care of your teeth: One of the major causes of cancer is root canals. They cut off the tooth's blood and nerve supplies, and eventually it becomes gangrenous and infected. Because the immune system is focused on the tooth, the rest of the body gets neglected, and cancer can develop. It's best to take the tooth out.
    • Natural therapies: Coffee enemas, infrared saunas.

189: Secrets to Attracting Your Soulmate & Tapping Into Your Sacred Sexuality Feb 13, 2018
    Show notes

Today's guest is Emunah Malinovitz, a relationship coach, intuitive healer, and founder of the Sacred Love Academy. We couldn't think of anyone better to celebrate Valentine's Day with us! She believes everyone has the right to feel true, soulful, juicy, connective love, and is on a mission to help us attract that into our lives.

Emunah knew that there had to be more to relationships than what she had previously experienced. She spent 20 years researching, studying and traveling the world to learn the secrets to long-lasting love. She discovered the key to falling in love with herself, the universe, and nature, and unlocking the magic of authentic relationships.

Maybe you also feel that there is more to love. Perhaps you're still looking for that perfect mate, or maybe you feel unsupported by your partner. The first step to finding true love is accepting that the kind of love portrayed in films and fairytales simply doesn't exist. We're told we must find the person who "completes" us, but the truth is that we need to feel complete in ourselves in order to attract our soulmate. We need to learn how to fall in love with ourselves and surrender to the love of the universe, in order to invite blissful relationships into our lives.

Emunah's tips for tuning into love:

    • Let go of fear. We guard our hearts because we are afraid of pain and hurt, but when we do this we cannot let love in. Honor your past wounds, heal them, and create a safe space for love.
    • Put out the right vibration. A closed heart attracts a closed heart. An open heart attracts an open heart.
    • Heal your sexual energy. Experiencing pleasure is part of our birth-right. When you consciously connect and make love, you're sending that energy out into the universe. Reconnect with your sacred sexuality.
    • The more willing we are to love, the more the universe will support us. Be willing to let love into your life.
    • Start by loving yourself. Don't pine for someone else's attention, give yourself what you need.

Emunah's tips to reconnect with your partner on Valentine's Day

    • Forget the hustle of eating out and keep it simple instead; order in or cook together.
    • Make time to connect with your partner: no cell phones, no tv, no to-do lists.
    • Sit in front of each other and breathe together; synchronize your breath, look into each other's eyes and be present. This alone is a hugely powerful practice. Begin to open your heart. Choose to be open, to let your partner in, to be vulnerable.
    • Hold the space for safe sharing. Tell your partner something you appreciate about them, something you find attractive, a fantasy you have. Then have them tell you.
    • Practice sacred orgasmic meditation.

The divine feminine is powerful in her sex and in her heart. In ancient cultures sexuality was honored. Now we're repressed, sex is mainstream, we're ashamed of our genitals. It's time to heal those wounds and come back to our sacredness.

If you're ready for deep meaningful connected love, Emunah's one-on-one and group coaching programs will help you do the deep work to heal your relationship past, open your heart, and attract the perfect partner. Hot Love That Lasts for Couples is an online program that launches just in time for Valentine's Day. Click here to get your free gift: 3 keys to sacred love that lasts. 188: Change Your Water, Transform Your Health, and Build Your Network with Travis Chappell Jan 23, 2018
    Show notes

We are 70% water. If the water we drink is toxic, of course our health suffers! The average tap water contains a cocktail of chemicals: pesticides, plastics, chlorine and fluoride, to name but a few. Today's guest, Travis Chappell, is at the forefront of a movement for clean, pure, healthy water.

Travis was always pretty active, playing several hours of basketball every day when he was in college. But when he started doing door-to-door sales, his health deteriorated. He gained 40 pounds, and was constantly suffering with aches, pains, and various health issues. And one day, he couldn't fit into 38-inch trousers—he knew something had to change. That's when he bought a water filtration system, and started drinking a gallon a day and going to the gym. Eighteen months later, he'd lost 60 pounds and 6 inches off his waist. Water changed the way Travis thought about health, and now he's on a mission to help others transform their wellbeing through the water they drink.

There's a direct correlation between water and health. Our modern diets are acidic, even the air we breathe is acidic. The body produces fat cells to neutralize the acidity that it simply isn't equipped to deal with. It also stores toxins from water, food and environment in our adipose (fat) tissue. Result: weight gain. But when you drink filtered, alkaline water, you change your body's pH and help it to detox, which means it doesn't need to produce extra fat cells, and you naturally lose weight. What's more, alkaline water contains a higher number of negative ions—powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals and keep you younger.

Now you might be thinking, "Well, this doesn't apply to me, I buy bottled water." But what about the water you cook with, the water you shower in? The crazy thing is that in a 10-minute shower, you absorb the same amount of chemicals that you would if you were to drink 8 glasses of that water! And it's actually worse, because when you drink water, your kidneys and liver have a chance to filter out some of the toxins. When it's absorbed through your skin, all those chemicals go directly into your bloodstream.

So, what's the answer? The first step is to get your water checked to find out exactly what you're dealing with. Travis's company Revive Water carries out water testing, and specializes in designing water systems tailored to your unique needs. And if you're renting, no worries—you can take the system with you when you move! Click here for more info!

Travis is also a dear friend and fellow podcaster. He was inspired by John Lee Dumas to start his own podcast about something he's super passionate about: networking. If you want to be successful, you need to surround yourself with successful people. And if you want to become an entrepreneur and wave goodbye that that office cubicle, then you need to reach out to like-minded people, to your network. A great place to start learning how to do just that is Travis's podcast, Build Your Network. We think it's a fantastic resource for anyone thinking of starting their own business, so check it out!

187: Prevent Alzheimer's and Take Years Off Your Brain in Just Minutes a Day with Dr. Masley Jan 16, 2018
    Show notes

Food is fundamental to health—it is the primary thing that makes us sick or well. And that's also true for our brain! Yes, that's right, food heals—the body and the mind! Today's guest totally gets that. While most doctors simply don't care about nutrition, Dr. Masley is one of the rare MD's to take it seriously. Right from the start, he knew that if he wanted to make a real difference to his patients' lives, he needed to do more than simply tell them how many grams of fat or fiber to eat: he had to share recipes that are delicious, easy to prepare, and that nourish the heart, brain and soul. He's our kind of M.D.!

Dr. Masley is a physician, nutritionist, chef and creator of the number 1 health program 30 Days to a Younger Heart. He's also authored the books 10 Years Younger, 30 Day Heart Tune-Up, and The Better Brain Solution. His goal is to help people improve their brain health, reduce cognitive decline, and feel better than ever.

Having witnessed the devastating impact of memory loss on his family, Dr. Masley is on a mission to stop it from affecting more people. His latest book, The Better Brain Solution, shares lifestyle strategies that are proven to make your brain younger, sharper, quicker and more productive.

Here are some of Dr. Masley's brain-boosting tips:

    • FOOD
      • Make sure you add these foods to your diet:
        • Plant pigments: Colorful fruits and vegetables (like blueberries, leafy greens, beetroot, etc.), cacao, matcha green tea, organic coffee (in moderation – 2 cups a day), and red wine (also in moderation!).
        • Smart fats: If you're on a low-fat diet, stop! Your brain is made up of 60% fat, so you need smart fats to keep it functioning at its best. Good sources include nuts, seeds, olive oil, and avocados. Also take an omega 3 DHA supplement.
        • Herbs and spices: These are packed with anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants which fight free radicals and keep your brain young. The best combinations are Italian herbs (like rosemary, basil, oregano, etc.) and curry spices (like turmeric, cumin, fenugreek, etc.).
        • Probiotics: Your gut is your second brain. Most of the neurotransmitters needed for proper cognitive function are made in your digestive system, so keep it healthy by including gut-friendly foods like miso, sauerkraut, and kombucha.
      • Avoid the following foods:
        • Refined carbohydrates (sugar, flour): These carbs hike up your blood sugar and are the number one cause of memory loss!
        • Nitrosamines: These are preservatives used in processed meats like bacon, hot dogs, sausages, etc. They are neurotoxic, and increase your risk of cancer and diabetes.
        • Tuna and large fish: They're high in mercury, which is toxic to our brains!
    • FITNESS
      • Physical exercise: Both aerobic exercise and strength training are essential to keep your brain young.
      • Mental exercise: Never stop learning! Gaining new skills, taking classes and feeding your brain with knowledge creates more neural connections and improves your brain speed.
    • STRESS
      • Stress actually shrinks your brain! When you're stressed, your cortisol levels go up, and this raises your blood sugar which increases your risk of artery plaque and heart disease. Take some time out every day to meditate, make sure you get proper sleep, and do something that makes you feel good. Romance and sex are good for both your heart and your brain!

Doing all of these things not only boosts your brain but also even prevents Alzheimer's disease – the sixth leading cause of death in the United States

If you want to improve your cognitive health, there's no better place to start than Dr. Masley's brain quiz. It only takes 90 seconds, and you'll get his Better Brain Solution Shopping List! Don't wait until you have symptoms: take action today to protect your brain, prevent Alzheimer's and keep it fit and healthy for years to come.

186: The Truth About Intermittent Fasting, Ayurvedic Medicine, Detoxing & Weight-loss with Dr. Stephen Cabral Jan 09, 2018
    Show notes

There are over 77,000 manmade chemicals in the environment right now. The average woman wears 26-28 cancer causing chemicals, just from cosmetics. We're facing an onslaught of toxins every single day and this doesn't just affect your overall health. It also causes weight gain because the body stores toxins in adipose (fat) tissue.

If you want to lose weight and improve your health, detoxing is the number one thing you can do. But with so much conflicting advice, it can be hard to know where to start.

Wherever we are, emotionally, health-wise, we are the sum of all our actions up to this point. Symptoms like irritability, low mood, fatigue, joint pain, low libido, not loving life, are simply a result of a lifestyle too full of components that stress our body. In the new year, we all focus on adding things in: more exercise, more supplements, more green juice. But we can also shift the focus on to what we can take away as well: slow down and begin removing some of the things that are dragging our health down.

Dr. Stephen Cabral is a naturopathic doctor specializing in both functional and Ayurvedic medicine. He developed his passion for health & wellness after going through severe health complications at the age of 17. He saw over 50 different doctors, tried over 100 different treatment protocols, but still saw no hope of recovery. It wasn't until he met an alternative health doctor whom explained to him how he got here and how he could become well again, that he began his recovery process. It was at this young age that he knew his life would be dedicated to helping others rebalance their bodies and renew their health.

Today, Dr. Cabral uses the best of ancient healing combined with state of the art functional medicine testing (blood tests, stool tests, biomarkers, etc) to give his patients a full spectrum view of what is going on in their body and the tools to rebalance their health. Dr. Cabral's mission is to spread what he's learned through his studies in India, China, Sri Lanka, Europe and the US to help people return to a state of energy, vitality, and happiness.

He's authored the best-selling book The Rain Barrel Effect, and hosts the podcast The Cabral Concept. If you have any health questions, he's probably already answered it—we're completely addicted to his show!

Dr. Cabral's tips for sustainable changes you can make today to help your body cleanse, detox and heal:

    • Fast for at least 12 hours a day. If you're constantly putting things into your digestive tract, it doesn't have time to "catch up" and filter out the bad stuff so instead it is stored. When you fast, you allow your system to go into autophagy, a process whereby your body kills cancer cells, releases toxins, rejuvenates and repairs itself!
    • Crowd out the bad foods. Make 60-80% of your diet fresh produce.
    • Sauna (infrared or traditional)
    • Epsom salt baths
    • Dry body brushing in the morning
    • Banish stress from your life

If you want to kick-start your health with a detox, check out Dr. Cabral's 21-day detox plan, which combines the best of ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with the best modern medical knowledge. You can transform a lot in 21 days: reduce inflammation, balance blood sugar and hormones, increase your energy, vitality, and libido. This 21-day plan is the next best thing to actually working with Dr. Cabral. We've tried it and LOVE it!
