He is currently a professor of pathology at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he began as an assistant professor at UW in 2006, an associate professor in 2011, and a full professor in 2015. He has received several awards for his work, including a Breakthroughs in Gerontology Award, an Alzheimer's Association New Investigator Award, and an Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar in Aging Award.
