AltSpace VR: Virtual Reality In The Human Dimension Jul 20, 2017
    Show notes

Imagine sitting down at your desk, putting on your VR headset, and pulling up an application that transports you to a different world- one where you can interact with people from across the globe as if they were standing right beside you. Sit down for a board game with your grandmother from overseas, or wander your way through a social event, entering and exiting conversations as you would in reality. "When you have someone from the U.S. standing next to someone from Brazil, standing next to someone from Saudi Arabia, you get some really fascinating conversations out of it," says Gavan Whilhite, founder of AltSpace VR. Whilhite proposes a virtual reality platform for communication that uniquely applies positional audio and 3-dimensional emphasis to enhance the "human" aspect of human interaction. Tune in to learn more. Whilhite also discusses: * The features and applications of AltSpace VR, including the use of holograms and social tools * What the future holds for the AltSpace VR project * How anyone can access AltSpace VR and start using it today

Recently Launched Blockchain Search and Analytics Engine Boasts Previously Non-Existent Functionality and Speed For Its Users Jul 20, 2017
    Show notes

As both the size and number of Blockchains grow, so too does the demand for access to their information. CEO and lead developer at Blockchair.com, Nikita Zhavoronkov, refers to his newly launched search and analytics engine as a sort of "Google for Blockchains." Blockchair allows its users to search for transactions in the Bitcoin Blockchain by more than 60 different criteria, which is a level of functionality that-until now- has been unattainable for chain explorers. Zhavoronkov's product offers something else that its competitors do not: speed. Rather than using a single database, Blockchair utilizes a compound of databases, thereby enhancing the speed with which searches and analyses are performed. Among other things, Zhavoronkov is closing in on plans to expand the applicability of Blockchair to the cryptocurrency of Ethereum. Tune in to hear more. Zhavoronkov also discusses: * How Blockchair can be used to combat fraud and scams * A brief overview of his stance on the scaling debate, including how and why it is necessary to scale Bitcoin * The future plans and goals for the development of Blockchair

Factom – Storing Massive Corporate Data on the Bitcoin Blockchain Jul 19, 2017
    Show notes

When you're dealing with huge amounts of data, it's a lot more efficient to have an index to find what you're looking for. Essentially, that's how Factom works. David Johnston explains. "At a high level, what Factom does is provide a data layer on top of the Blockchain… when I say a data layer, I mean Factom enables people and companies to secure huge amounts of data—we're talking millions or billions of records—publish them in Factom." Doing this, Factom leverages the security of the Blockchain for private data. Since going live in 2015, Factom has secured 100 million records. Hit play to learn more about Factom. Subscribe, review. And if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the cause. Every little bit helps.

Symbiont – Blockchain-Based, Bank to Bank Trading & Information Sharing Jul 19, 2017
    Show notes

Fundamentally, the application of Blockchain technology to big financial institutions is pretty simple. These institutions duplicate information and reconcile with another. "If there are market structures where parties can actually share the same information…" says Caitlin Long "… they no longer have to duplicate it, and reconcile it." There's a tremendous amount of work be done, duplicating the exact same information, over and over again. With a Blockchain the issue is solved en masse. This is the work Symbiont is doing, improving the state of the art in financial services, so banks can trade with each other more easily and sensibly. Right now, in the syndicated loan market, 25 million faxes are sent a year. Tune in to learn more about Symbiont. Be sure to subscribe and review; and if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the cause.

Bitmain and BTC.com – Bitcoin Cloud Mining, Mining Pools and a Bitcoin Wallet Jul 19, 2017
    Show notes

Bitcoin mining has become more difficult over the years. Back in the day, you could just set up your own laptop and be minting new Bitcoins with that computer alone. But it's still feasible today—just as long as you have a cheap source of electricity. "There's a science behind mining," says Alejandro De La Torre. "You have to consider various factors, such as electricity, bandwidth." You also have to look at it as an operation. "Sometimes miners might turn off, or the electricity might go off." There's a lot to consider. For more on this topic, tune in. Subscribe, review, and if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin.

CryptoConsultant – Canada's Number 1 Bitcoin Consulting Company, Investing In The Future of Blockchain Technology Jul 18, 2017
    Show notes

When James Gonzalez first heard about BitCoin in 2011, he dismissed it. It didn't seem relevant. As a real estate investor, he was interested in more traditional forms of capital. Then he heard about it again. And again. BitCoin kept coming up, and Gonzalez finally began to take it seriously. By 2013, he'd started making investments in the space. Late in that year, he co-founded CryptoConsultant, the first pure BitCoin consultancy in Canada, at the time. CryptoConsultant is expanding — and changing. People want to know how Blockchain technology can be applied to their existing industry. This is an increasingly relevant question. Because for Gonzalez, society is dominated by networks, and the Blockchain leverages those networks more powerfully than ever before.

Smart Contracts – Ethereum's Bailiwick – How Do They Really Work? Jul 14, 2017
    Show notes

If you look at the way many banks and asset manager backends function, internally, there are many different departments. And each department has its own copy of a contract it needs to execute on. They each have their own copy because even internally, departments don't trust one another to execute the contract according to their own interests. It's an issue of trust. But now, there is a solution. There is a way to de-risk the contract. A smart contract is one you can trust, one that executes in a tamper-proof manner. It executes this way because it's run on a decentralized infrastructure: none of the parties involved can modify its operation. Hit play to learn more about smart contracts. Be sure to subscribe, review, and if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the cause.

Swap Protocol – A Decentralized Crypto Exchange Jul 14, 2017
    Show notes

It seems like an impossible trade-off: how do you make a marketplace that people can go to—coordinate on—and yet that is decentralized? Here to answer that question are Don Mosites and Michael Oved of Swap Protocol. There are three primary components of their protocol. There's the discovery of tokens—being able to find the tokens you want to buy or sell; there's the pricing; and there's making the trade. There's no third party. People who are buying are connected to people who are selling, say, Ethereum. Then, they just submit the trades to the Blockchain. To learn more about the Swap Protocol, hit play. Subscribe, review, and if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the cause.

Dr. Judith Campisi of the Buck Institute Discusses Cell Senescence, Aging, and Quality of Life Jul 12, 2017
    Show notes

Why and how do mice age differently from elephants? Why do humans age differently from both? What is the limit of human longevity and can it be increased? If so, how? To renowned biogerontology professor and scientist Judith Campisi of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, finding answers to these questions drives her. Each age-related disease is due to cell senescence, a cell's response to stress, yet there's also what she calls the "evolutionary trade-off" of cell senescence. She explains how chronic inflammation is a double-edged sword and that research has uncovered surprising results on mice and how cell senescence impacts their existence. Studies have found that exercise and diet may benefit cell senescence in mice; it's thought provoking even as the process is not fully understood. Finally, she gives a prediction on the expected lifespan of humans two or three decades from now. Is it even possible to increase it? And if so, how? Dr. Campisi also discusses: * Why humans are impacted by cell senescence now more than ever in our history * The two parts of the immune system – the innate and adaptive subsystems – and their roles in aging * The effect of the FDA's refusal to classify aging as a disease * Which type of diet has shown the most promise in blunting the effects of cell senescence * The impact of personality on brain activity – and the overall effect on health and cell senescence

Omega One's Alex Gordon Brander and the Plan to Transform the Crypto Market Jul 12, 2017
    Show notes

When the rate of trade on a financial exchange increases 25-fold, and technology in its current form cannot handle the pace, cracks in the foundation are to be expected. It's seems to be pure chaos in crypto, as this is what has just happened: in January 2017, $200M a day was being traded; by July 2017, it was $5B a day – a 25x increase. This explosion is just one reason Omega One Chief Technology Officer Alex Gordon Brander believes this is a pivotal juncture in crypto. And yet, none of it seems to be a surprise to him, even as ether plunged from a price of $317 per unit to $0.10 a unit in less than a second. Brander also discusses how Omega One is developing stable enough preventative measures to keep this from happening again – at least to this extent. The methods that a traditional FX could have employed to absorb such a flurry and panic might not work on a crypto exchange – yet could such methods be adapted to work? That's Omega One's challenge. After listening to Alex Gordon Brander, you don't doubt their ability to meet the challenge. You'd also be forgiven for expecting (not hoping) that Omega One's innovations are the home run crypto's been looking for. Brander also discusses: * How, in this most recent sell-off chaos, someone banked $1M in ether but paid no more than a few hundred dollars * 3 innovations from Omega One that could help adequately deal with a similar meltdown in the future * Omega One's impending token launch (by the end of the summer) and how it will not only impact Omega One itself but crypto market itself * An impending surprise announcement!
