Unikrn: A Platform and Emerging Cryptocurrency For Legal Betting In eSports Aug 03, 2017
    Show notes

Millions of people from all around the world are interacting with video games in a whole new way: through a bookmaker for eSports called Unikrn. "When people ask what Unikrn does, I tell them we are a bookmaker for eSports, but ultimately we are eSports," says Rahul Sood, CEO of Unikrn. Unikrn collects statistics and data for all of the major eSports, and creates odds on which players and spectators can bet against. Complete with sportscasters for play-by-play commentary, Unikrn's eSport platform is compelling, even for the inexperienced video gamer or sports fan. Just two years ago, with the introduction of a completely free token called the Unikoin, Unikrn entered the U.S. market. "We built a giant global community around the Unikoin, and we turned over a quarter billion Unikoins in the last year and a half," says Sood. So, where is the Unikoin headed now? It's headed into the world of cryptocurrency, as both UnikoinSilver and UnikoinGold. Tune in to hear the details. Sood also discusses: * The specific types and genres of games, as well as the different ways in which people can place bets * The ways in which eSports differ from fantasy sports, and the benefit of eSports when it comes to skills betting * How the new cryptocurrencies will work on a crypto-exclusive platform, including the ability to place micro-bets in real-time

Christian Merz- Cultivating Digital Solutions for Smallholder Farmers Aug 01, 2017
    Show notes

Thousands of local extension agents equipped with Pico Projectors head into Indian villages and communities with an important objective: improve the lives of smallholder farmers by providing them with the necessary tools to achieve increased agricultural productivity and overall success. It's basic, human-facilitated digital technology, but it's already reached more than 1.4 million smallholder farmers, and resulted in a 21% increase in productivity for farmers in India: Digital Green video-based extension systems. The videos themselves are produced within the communities by local farmers, such that "Farmers learn from each other, they adopt practices from their peers." But this is just one example of the work that Christian Merz is facilitating as Senior Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. "…About 800 million people in the world do not have enough food to live a healthy and active life, and many of the poor families are actually smallholder farmer households," says Merz. Through the use of ICT for agriculture, Merz's work aims to "Transform agriculture to support smallholder farmer families and to give them the tools and technology to lift themselves out of poverty." So, to what extent can digital technology be applied in this regard? That is the question that lies at the heart of this work, and Merz is eager to discuss the answer. Hit play to hear more. Merz also discusses: A digital strategy that will invest in several distinctive areas, including social media, digital financial services, and self-service smartphone applications The application of remote sensing technologies and drones The misconceptions and problems that surround current digital solutions

Health 2.0 Conference- Promoting High-Tech Innovations in Health Care Jul 31, 2017
    Show notes

More effective prevention and management of common diseases, better overall health care at lower costs, fewer visits to doctor's offices, and earlier discharges from hospitals: how can we make this a reality? Matthew Holt, co-chairman of the Health 2.0 Conference, believes that the answer lies in the application of new emerging technologies to the field of health care. Whether it's a virtual visit to the doctor from the comfort of your home, a sensor that continuously monitors your blood pressure and blood sugar concentration, or a form of artificial intelligence that compiles and helps us make sense of the data, these technologies hold promise for the future of human health care. "There's no reason why we can't deliver better care for lower cost. The vast majority of the cost in health care gets spent on a very small number of people…The idea of technology is that you can do this stuff at scale- so you can give these things to everybody," says Holt. So, why isn't it already here? Hit play to learn. Holt also discusses: Three reasons why the medical industry has been slow to adopt new technologies Which of the common conditions and diseases may be most beneficially impacted by the adoption of new technologies What to expect at the upcoming Health 2.0 conference, which is scheduled to take place on October 1st and 4th of this year, in Santa Clara, CA

Cryptonomex: The Blockchain Development Company of Speed and Scale Jul 31, 2017
    Show notes

"That's the real sweet spot of what Dan has done…he invented the real-time blockchain, and that means transactions happen as fast as you can spin a slot machine," says Stan Larimer, referencing his son, Dan Larimer. As CEO of Cryptonomex, Stan Larimer sustains the technology that his son creates. And it's true: instead of taking hours-or in some cases even days- tens of thousands of blockchain-based transactions can now take place every second.. Cryptonomex began with the purpose of creating BitShares, which in and of itself is an idea that's just four years old. Since its creation, it has become a "complete digital currency exchange and SmartCoin factory," says Stan Larimer. But that's not all that has evolved from Cryptonomex…Click play to learn more. Larimer also discusses: Steemit: what is it, how it was conceived, and how it evolved from BitShares "Bitcoin millionaires" and the "billion-dollar campaign" The factors and mechanisms that allow for faster transactions, including the elimination of mining, and the optimization of computations

Rivetz — Blockchain Security Built Directly Into Your Devices Jul 26, 2017
    Show notes

Steven Sprague, CEO of Rivetz, discusses how his company leverages the hardware security already in your electronic device's microchips to create a secure environment that is isolated from its operating system. Currently, microchips in Android devices have the ability to store and process code directly in processor security, independent of your device's operating system. More secure than 2-factor authentication, it allows for blockchain security keys to be held directly in your device's hardware, and cannot be stolen through malware or copying a device's phone number. Once this technology is made available to third-party app developers, it will create device-specific access to bank accounts, cars, smart-home technologies, hotel rooms, and more that can be easily locked or deactivated if those devices are lost or stolen.

Bitcoin IRA: The First and Only Cryptocurrency-Based IRA Jul 26, 2017
    Show notes

Just over three years ago, Chris Kline had only a basic understanding of cryptocurrency. Fast forward to the present day, and he wears the title of COO of Bitcoin IRA, a company that provides the unprecedented ability for anyone to hold cryptocurrencies in a retirement account, whether it's a traditional, Roth, SEP or SIMPLE IRA. Since its launch just over a year ago, Bitcoin IRA has already expanded by offering an Ethereum-based IRA, which in and of itself has generated about 15 million in investments in the last few months. Kline has the intention of continually meeting the demands not only of the marketplace, but also of his individual clients. Tune in to hear more. Kline also discusses: * How Bitcoin IRA works to mitigate the risks of using cryptocurrency in this capacity * The impact of short-term and long-term capital gain on the Bitcoin assets in a Bitcoin IRA * The common questions and misconceptions surrounding Bitcoin IRA, including how quickly money can be moved, how the process is securitized, and what the future holds for Bitcoin IRA

    Bitcrust – A Full-Node Implementation of Bitcoin Jul 25, 2017
    Show notes

To put it briefly, Bitcrust is a full-node implementation of Bitcoin. (Eventually, intended to become a full software suite for Bitcoin.) But what does that mean exactly? Tomas Van der Wansem explains: "It basically means that we're building software akin to the normal reference software for Bitcoin, which is called Bitcoin Core. So instead of Bitcoin Core we build our own software." Bitcrust runs on the same network, the same rules, the same protocol as Core, but it's more modular, and more efficient than Core. The modularity is an important aspect of Bitcrust. "We're building in a modular approach: several different components to serve miners, businesses, and users for their Bitcoin needs, basically," says Van der Wansem. Gnosis – A Modular, Decentralized Prediction Market Built on Ethereum Jul 24, 2017
    Show notes

Matt Liston, CSO at Gnosis, explains Gnosis in brief: "Gnosis is a modular, decentralized prediction market platform built on Ethereum." What that means is that there's a base set of smart contracts both for market creation settlements, and oracles that can plug into those markets. The base protocol is meant to support and enable prediction applications. Live now, people have been able to predict using Gnosis with real Ethereum since Frontier. This could be the most irritating question I had about Gnosis, but I asked Liston anyway. "What's the difference between Augur and Gnosis?" "I get that a lot," says Liston. There's a misconception that they're the same, he explains, but really, their technical and business approaches vary wildly. Tune in to learn more about Gnosis. Be sure to review, and subscribe, and if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the podcast. Every little bit helps us create more great content like this.

Shapeshift.io (and Prism) – A Simple Interface for Direct, Zero Slippage Trading Jul 24, 2017
    Show notes

"Shapeshift is a way to change any digital asset into any other, without accounts," explains Erik Voorhees. "It's an easy way to convert." I've personally used Shapeshift myself, and that's been my experience, too. Let's say you have Bitcoin, and you want to trade it for Dash. You send the Bitcoin to Shapeshift, and you get Dash back into your Dash wallet: pretty cool stuff. With Shapeshift, you can directly trade any digital asset for any other, without having to use Bitcoin or Ethereum as a reserve currency. "So it's like 10,000 pairs or something," says Voorhees; in other words, you can convert from one currency to another in 10,000 different ways. Plus, the interface is simple to understand, and you don't have to set up an account to use the site. Easily the coolest part of this direct trading method is that it eliminates "slippage." The thing is, exchange rates are always changing. In the moments between putting in an order and the order registering, the exchange rate will have changed. Sometimes the rates on are better, sometimes they're worse. But with Shapeshift, what you see is what you get: the price doesn't slip, or change unexpectedly. Hit play to learn more about Shapeshift, and Prism, Voorhees's latest project from the same company. Subscribe, review, and if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the cause.
