Jordan Earls, Co-Founder And Lead Developer Of Qtum–Cryptocurrency Capable Of Executing Smart Contracts On Mobile And IOT Devices Oct 25, 2017
    Show notes

Qtum is a cryptocurrency that allows mobile and IOT devices to execute smart contracts, using a proof of stake consensus. Qtum doesn't utilize voting, master nodes, or minimum coin requirements. Instead, the number of coins that you hold in your wallet determines how likely you are to create stake blocks and get rewarded. This technology can be used in many different use cases, from verifying the origin or contents of items like wine or fine art, to creating a mesh network of satellites around the world–anything with sensitive data that can be protected by putting in on the blockchain. Qtum uses an independent blockchain that is related to Ethereum. In the future, Qtum hopes to release a platform that can act as an app store, for companies to purchase and download smart contracts that they can use for their own business needs. For more information, visit www.reddit.com/r/qtum or www.qtum.org.

Rob Palatnick, Chief Technology Architect Of DTCC–Integrating Blockchain Technology Into The Global Financial Market Infrastructure Oct 25, 2017
    Show notes

DTCC, the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, begun over 40 years ago, is an established player in the global financial infrastructure, performing key roles as a primary clearing house and settlement organization for stock market trades, processing for the derivative swap market, and other services for the insurance and financial industries. Wholly owned by the financial industry, DTCC is taking a leading role in integrating blockchain and distributed ledger technology into the industry, especially with stock market trades and credit default swaps. In particular, distributed ledger technology holds a lot of promise in the industry–though allowing various ledgers from different trading companies to automatically reconcile with one another is the challenge. Rob also offers his thoughts, as a financial industry insider, on the future and role of cryptocurrencies. For more information, visit www.dtcc.com.

Ethan Siegel, Physicist And Author Of New Book Trekology–Evaluating Technology In The Star Trek Universe, And Resulting Ethics Considerations Oct 24, 2017
    Show notes

Star Trek captured the imagination of physicist Ethan Siegel, through the show's depiction of how science and technology were used to not only benefit all of humanity, but available for all–a vision that he likes, and hopes becomes a reality in our world. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek, Ethan looks at some of the technology featured on the show–in areas ranging from medical to weapons to communications and more–and talks about which technologies already exist, such as the tractor beam and the teleporter, which are in development, like the phazer, and which are unlikely, such as artificial gravity. Ethan also discusses some ethical issues posed by scientific developments, such as the creation of copies/destruction of the original during the teleportation process, and cyber security for implanted microchips in the brain that would allow blind individuals to see. To purchase a copy of Trekology, visit Amazon or your local bookseller.

Neil Bergquist, CEO Of Coinme And Uptoken, And JR Willet, Engineer At Coinme And Uptoken–Creating A Global Network Of Cryptocurrency Atms And Rewards Program Oct 24, 2017
    Show notes

Coinme is the first fully licensed cryptocurrency ATM network in the United States, and is compliant with AML/KYC regulations. Users are able to withdraw up to $2500 per day, and each time they use an ATM, they will be rewarded with a digital 1% cash back in the form of UpToken, which will be purchased specifically for that purpose. UpToken will give its holders special privileges, including allowing them to vote on which cryptocurrencies to add to the ATMs, and where new ATMs should be located. There is also a current UpToken sale, with daily changing discounts for purchasers. Overall, both Neil and JR view this as a way to engage with those individuals who are not currently involved in the cryptospace. For more information, visit www.uptoken.com.

Pierre Noizat, CEO of Paymium: The First and Most Secure BTC Exchange Operating in Compliance with AML/KYC Oct 23, 2017
    Show notes

"The thing I want most from the ecosystem is transparency…I think we should have a level playing field across exchanges and good practices so that exchanges are not used for money laundering because that's certainly a cost for the system as a whole," says Pierre Noizat, CEO of Paymium. Paymium was created in 2011 as one of the first exchanges in the cryptocurrency space, and the current platform has been running continuously since 2013. But there are a couple of things that set the Paymium exchange apart from the rest: security and regulatory compliance. In fact, Paymium is the first exchange to maintain a long-term, successful banking relationship. But at what price, and do the pros outweigh the cons? Noizat is eager to discuss it all, so tune in to learn more. Noizat also discusses: * How the addition of too many cryptocurrencies (and too quickly) can be dangerous and compromise security. * Future plans to add more cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies to the platform while maintaining the same level of security and compliance. * The dangers and risks of margin trading, especially with BTC. * How cold wallets work, and how they confer a significant security benefit.

Leo Elduayen, Founder of Koibanx- Creating Blockchain-based Financial Identities for the Unbanked Sector Oct 23, 2017
    Show notes

A significant portion of the world's population operates outside the bounds of the traditional banking industry with informal capital, leaving them without a way to document their financial transactions or prove their liquidity to potential creditors. As Founder of Koibanx, Leo Elduayen has harnessed blockchain technology to develop a tool that will allow the unbanked to create and develop credit histories, as well as send and receive payments through an API. "We position ourselves as partners with the current financial industry. We have the means, we have the know-how, we have the expertise in this kind of niche technology that will allow them to take their business to this new sector," says Elduayen. Koibanx has created just two years ago, but they've already acquired two major clients: the second largest bank in Columbia and the largest creditor in Argentina. Tune in to hear all the details. Elduayen also discusses: * How the payment system works, including the creation of client-sponsored cryptocurrencies used only within the Koibanx system * The potential to build a more in-depth blockchain-based reputation with input from various sources, including relationships with suppliers and geolocation identification * How the system will allow for increased efficiency, reduced costs and complete user-control

Joseph Weinberg, Founder Of Paycase–Global Remittance Platform Built On Bitcoin Exchanges Oct 20, 2017
    Show notes

Paycase is one of the oldest and largest bitcoin companies in Canada. They have turned their attention to the global remittance markets, because Canada is the largest per capita currency remitter in the world, with $2-4 Billion being sent annually to The Philippines, and $4-6 Billion to each India and China. Paycase works by trading Canadian currency into bitcoin, then trading bitcoin into the local currency of wherever it is being sent, and sending it to the correct user–however, users only see that they have traded Canadian dollars for local currency. Because this uses a bitcoin price comparison instead of the interbank rate, it reduces the cost of using Western Union by 60-90%. Ultimately, Paycase will allow businesses to be more in control of their own payment services. For more information, visit www.paycase.com.

Roger Bickley, Founder Of Crypto Trading Pro–How To Start Trading Cryptocurrencies To Make A Profit Oct 20, 2017
    Show notes

Though Roger has only been involved in the cryptospace since the beginning of 2017, he has already discovered some tips and tricks that he is willing to share. Some exchanges, such as Crypto VA or Nova Exchange, will give you commissions for referring others. He also recommends using Coinergy, a platform that connects other exchanges into one place. Looking at a coin's community–how active they are on Slack/Telegram, how much they're willing to help newcomers, how committed developers are, and how many people are actually willing to hold on to their coin–are some great indicators of whether you should invest in it. All of these tips and more are combined into his trading group, Crypto Trading Pro. The group creates money for both members and those holding other cryptos by choosing a coin to purchase in large amounts. After creating marketing materials and promoting the coin for several weeks, the coin has risen in value, and creates a profit for all its holders. Jameson Lopp, Head of Infrastructure at Bitgo – Allowing Business Integration of Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain into Existing Financial Systems Oct 18, 2017
    Show notes

Beginning by servicing wallet providers, Bitgo now allows companies to integrate cryptocurrencies directly into their existing financial service systems, through a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain. Currently, they are working with the British Royal Mint and the Chicago Mercantile exchange to token the trading of gold and other assets all over the world. By using the bitcoin blockchain to replace low-level auditing procedures, the entire trading history of the gold can be verified, without having to physically touch the gold. To accomplish this, Bitgo has created a multi-signature software called Prova, which breaks private keys into 3 parts, and distributes them to the user, Bitgo, and an offline back-up key. Users need 2 out of 3 keys in order to initiate transactions, greatly increasing user's security. In the future, they hope to add the ability to make atomic swaps, and will continue to work on improving the Prova software. For more information, visit www.bitgo.com.
