FR Ep #185 Thriving as a Solo-Ager with Sara Geber Aug 17, 2020
    Show notes

Today on Feminine Roadmap guest Sara Zeff Geber, nationally known expert in the field of planning for the next phase of life, shares how to plan for later life and thrive as a solo-ager. Sara’s focus is on helping those who do not have a natural heir to prepare for their later years through good financial planning, organizing key paperwork and creating a strong social network. Statistics show that almost 20% of baby-boomers did not have children leaving a significant portion of the population without someone to care for them. Sara’s expertise in guiding solo-agers through essential retirement processes helps ensure that they will have the care that they need as they reach their later years. One of the key elements that she teaches is to build a strong social network of people from various areas of your life- church, work, neighbors, family, etc- who are trustworthy, responsible and honest who can help provide care and assistance when the need arises. If you or someone you know is a solo-ager, this conversation will provide a practical plan to set yourself up financially, legally and successfully ensure you have the support and care as you age. FR EP #184 Gaining a Fresh Perspective on Retirement with Heidi Herman Aug 10, 2020
    Show notes

Today on Feminine Roadmap Heidi Herman brings her joyful take on gaining a fresh perspective on retirement. Heidi’s inspiration came from becoming the plus one for her mother’s adventures and experiences started well into her 80’s and early 90’s. Heidi and her mother, Ieda Jonasdottir Herman, spent one year doing 93 things her mother wanted to do for her 93rd year of living and they even wrote a book about it- “Never Too Late: A Year of Ordinary Adventures The Proves You’re Never Too Old for Something New- Even at 93”. The example her mother set for her, her vivacity and mindset about living life fully, moving forward with a “why not” attitude to new things, profoundly impacted Heidi’s view of retirement and aging. The result of that year lead Heidi to write a book inspired by her mother’s philosophy, a book that is written as a springboard of ideas and encouragement to broaden our minds to think of retirement in a new, fresh way. Her goal is to encourage us in midlife and beyond to do more living now and as we approach retirement to take a fresh perspective on how we might choose to live those years with curiosity, exploration and adventure. Whether you are retired or are years away from it- Heidi’s message is for you right where you are, start now, look for the yes, get our of your comfort zone and do the thing you want to do just because. FR Ep #178 Kick Fear and Anxiety with Proven Brain Science with Dr Craig April Jul 16, 2020
    Show notes

Today on Feminine Roadmap Dr. Craig April shares powerful strategies and resources to help us kick fear and anxiety with proven brain science using CBT- cognitive behavior therapy. Dr. April talks about how we can outsmart our brain’s false fear messages and claim our calm by using CBT techniques. He explains that anxiety is false fear, it’s actually us misinterpreting our bodies being flooded with adrenaline – instead of recognizing it is a biological experience, we create a story to understand it like, “I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack” or “I can’t handle this” and seek to avoid the sensation. One of the challenges with anxiety is that it is often focused on the past or future not the present, loaded with “what ifs”. Dr. April wants us to learn to identify what it is that we are afraid of and the false belief attached to it then utilize CBT to rewire the brain by modifying the beliefs to more accurately reflect reality in the present. Once we understand what is happening, it’s not us, it’s biological- an excess of adrenaline flooding our systems- then we can stop the tide of anxiety and help our brains adapt to stop our suffering. If you or someone you love struggles with fear and anxiety, this episode is full of sound facts and strategies that can empower you to turn the tide of anxiety and begin to claim your calm.
