Feeling Things with Amy & Kat

Feeling Things with Amy & Kat is a podcast for anyone who’s ever had feelings—or wants to. Hosted by Amy Brown and therapist Kat Van Buren, this is a space where nothing is off-limits. From deep reflections on childhood to pop culture obsessions to what’s happening in the world, all feelings deserve a seat at the table—big, small, awkward, joyful, confusing, and everything in between. At its core, it’s real friends having real conversations about real feelings. Some episodes go deep, some stay light, but all are rooted in curiosity, honesty, and connection. In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause… and feel things.

The Difference Between Overeating & Binge Eating (Outweigh) Feb 11, 2023
    Show notes

OUTWEIGH: Amy has had many disordered eating behaviors over the last 25 years, binge eating being one of them. A couple of questions Amy had early on in her recovery from binge eating were: "What is the difference between binge eating and overeating?" and "How can I tell the difference between the voices of my lower brain (that causes binges) and my higher brain (that could stop me from the binges)?" She answers both of those questions from her personal experience and the tools that worked best for her.

-it will bring clarity & alignment to your life, not chaos & confusion.
-you won’t feel the need to beg, convince or force…things will feel grounded & safe.

Money red flags to watch for in a potential partner:
They’re not willing to talk openly about finances.
They use money to control you.
They make you feel embarrassed about your financial situation.

Amy’s Vision Board Is Coming True (5th Thing) Jan 31, 2023
    Show notes

Do vision boards really work? YES!!! Amy shares how hers is already coming true and we are only one month into the year! This all might sound quite mystical, but vision boards are in fact rooted in neuroscience. Neuroscientist Dr Tara Swart explains: "Looking at images on a vision board primes the brain to grasp opportunities that may otherwise go unnoticed. That’s because the brain has a process called ‘value-tagging’ which imprints important things onto your subconscious and filters out unnecessary information.”

    Today’s quote:
“The phrase: ‘Don’t take this the wrong way has 0% success rate!’” This quote led to Amy and Kat also discussing unsolicited advice and how that is actually a form of judgment.

Amy and Kat also read some listener emails about Undo The Booze and God having different plans for you when something falls through that you were really looking forward to!

Red Flags You Should Never Ignore In A Relationship Jan 26, 2023
    Show notes

What are red flags in a relationship? They’re warning signs that there might be unhealthy patterns/behaviors between you and your partner or someone else. Amy and her friend Cryo Kat (Katherine Cox) go over 13 different red flags, yellow flags vs. red flags, and how to approach red flags in a relationship. Cryo Kat has a very personal story of how multiple red flags were right in front of her face and she didn’t/couldn’t even see them at the time…so much so that she married the guy. They have since gotten divorced, so this conversation will hopefully spare others from getting into a similar situation + create awareness + also encourage some self-reflection (because maybe we are a red flag, not someone else!!!)

And remember: your body (energy) will tell you before your brain will about how you’re connecting with someone…you just have to listen!
