Feeling Things with Amy & Kat

Feeling Things with Amy & Kat is a podcast for anyone who’s ever had feelings—or wants to. Hosted by Amy Brown and therapist Kat Van Buren, this is a space where nothing is off-limits. From deep reflections on childhood to pop culture obsessions to what’s happening in the world, all feelings deserve a seat at the table—big, small, awkward, joyful, confusing, and everything in between. At its core, it’s real friends having real conversations about real feelings. Some episodes go deep, some stay light, but all are rooted in curiosity, honesty, and connection. In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause… and feel things.

The Single Biggest Predictor of Divorce (Part 3 of How Relationships Begin to End: The Four Horseman) Sep 30, 2025
    Show notes

In Part 3 of our Four Horsemen series, we dive into contempt, the most dangerous predictor of relationship breakdown. Kat breaks down what contempt sounds like, why it’s referred to as “relational poison,” and how it impacts both emotional and even physical health. Most importantly, we go over the antidote from Dr. Gottman: building a culture of admiration and respect. Plus, Amy’s Feeling of the Day is sad, but it’s giving her some helpful information about herself and her relationship.

What's God Got To Do With It?: How God Helped Me Heal My Fears About Being Alone the Rest of My Life Sep 28, 2025
    Show notes

Do you have beliefs that are holding you back that (no matter what you try), they continue to have a stronghold on you?
In this week's episode of the God Pod, Leanne Ellington shares her personal journey of transforming beliefs through the unique intersection of where "faith meets science"...and where "science meets faith", as we start to unravel how faith and science intersect in transforming your deepest-held beliefs about yourself.
She shares a unique process to transform your own beliefs, but also takes you on a deeply introspective voyage, and candidly discusses her transition from attempting to change her beliefs purely through scientific and emotional tools...to inviting God into the conversation.
She shares her initial struggles with self-worth and the fear of "being alone the rest of her life", and details how she crafted new beliefs that resonated with her core self and how she "backed them up" with carefully-chosen scripture.
Leanne's journey from skepticism to faith, from doubt to trust, ultimately culminated in a profound transformation, including the unexpected and beautiful development of a loving relationship, and this episode invites you to explore your own beliefs and see where "faith meets science" can help you reshape your own self-perceptions.

Write Your Story: The Wisdom of the Middle Sep 27, 2025
    Show notes

When you’re in the middle of your story and it appears that no resolution is on the horizon, it’s easy to assume that you must be doing something wrong.

Maybe if you were stronger, wiser, or more "positive" you would be able to find a solution and bring your story to resolution.

But what if the point of the story is not to resolve the story?

What if the unresolved, chaotic, painful middle of a story is exactly where you belong?

In today’s episode I’ll talk about our very human impulse to relieve the pain and pressure of our stories, to find resolution, and I’ll also explore what happens when we allow the middle of the story to be exactly what it is: confusing, unsettling, upsetting and painful.

Are you in the middle of a story?
What would it be like to soften into the middle and let it change you?

Soul Sessions: October 2025 Astrology & Numerology: Let Your Light Eclipse the Darkness Sep 26, 2025
    Show notes

Ready for a shift? While September brought intense, logistical energy, October 2025 ushers in a new flavor. We're moving from literal lessons to a rhythmic, transformative dance. This month is about finding lightness, levity, and joy even amidst deep change.

You'll feel a powerful pull to be playful and adaptable as you navigate a paradoxical blend of intense energy and profound grace. The numerology of a 1 month in a 9 year speaks to a cycle of endings and new beginnings, requiring both forward momentum and a willingness to shed what no longer serves you. This is a powerful time for death and rebirth, and it's essential to give yourself space to grieve the past as you step into your new identity.

    This episode explores how to:

    • Embrace the paradoxical energy of the month—finding balance and harmony in a period of intense transformation.
    • Work with the 1/9 numerology to navigate new beginnings with discernment while honoring the need to release old patterns.
    • Tune into the body to release emotional and physiological blockages, especially around sadness and heaviness.
    • Harness key astrological transits to your advantage, including:
      • The powerful Aries Full Moon on October 6th, which may reveal jarring truths and push you to embrace your inner truth.
      • Pluto moving direct on October 13th and Venus entering Libra, inviting you to reflect on your journey and infuse your life with beauty and harmony.
      • The Libra New Moon on October 21st, a harmonic reset for setting intentions around peace, cooperation, and beauty.
      • The shift from Sun in Libra to Sun in Scorpio on October 22nd, a move from external beauty to the depths of your soul.
    • Learn to surrender, ask for help, and trust that you have exactly what you need for this journey.

Join us to learn how to be teachable, shed outdated belief systems, and set the stage for a delightful October. Don't let gravity steal your light—choose joy for the sake of joy.

Defensiveness (Part 2 of How Relationships Begin to End: The Four Horseman) Sep 23, 2025
    Show notes

Amy and Kat continue to unpack Dr. John Gottman’s famous ‘Four Horsemen of the apocalypse’ for relationships which has helped him be able to predict the failure or success of a relationship with a 90% accuracy rate. Week 2 is Defensiveness. It is that quick “it’s not me, it’s you” response that shows up when we think we are being criticized. Amy and Kat talk about how defensiveness sneaks in when we are stressed or protecting our ego (especially for Amy!!), and why it makes conflict worse instead of solving it. They share real-life examples, explain how even a hint of criticism can trigger us, and walk through the antidote of taking responsibility for your part. You will hear tips for pausing, owning your piece, and keeping conversations from turning into blame games. This episode will help you stay connected and turn tense moments into opportunities for understanding.

What's God Got To Do With It? Breaking Free from Obsession Sep 20, 2025
    Show notes

When Carley found herself constantly thinking about food—either obsessing over dieting or feeling like a failure for not being able to stick with anything—she knew something had to change. She was sick of the all-or-nothing mindset, the endless rules, and the guilt that always followed. But as the youngest woman to ever go through the Stressless Eating program, she also knew she didn’t want to carry this struggle into the rest of her life.

In this episode, Carley opens up about what it felt like to be trapped in a cycle of food obsession, why she finally decided to get help, and how she rewired her brain to break free. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice out there or wondered if you’d ever find peace with food, Carley’s journey will show you that real, lasting change is possible—at any age.
