Guided by Pastor Josh Burtram (Faithful Host) and Will Wright (Political Host), this unique platform invites listeners to delve into the complex impact of political choices on both the faithful and faithless.

At the beginning of each of Michael Flynn's ReAwaken tour visit they blow a Shofar (a ram's-horn trumpet used by ancient Jews in religious ceremonies and as a battle signal). They do this because there is a belief that they are in a spiritual war against their political opponents. Many equate this level of theocratic theatre with the term Christian Nationalism, but the rabbit hole goes much deeper.
Josh and Will journey down this rabbit hole and talk with one of the foremost experts on the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) and Dominionism, Professor André Gagné. They discuss the origins of the NAR, and how its goal of gaining Dominion over seven "mountains" of influence in western society can disrupt the pluralistic order of our society.
If you have always been curious about the seven mountain mandate, five-fold ministry, Christian Nationalism, and the religious right, this is one episode you will not want to miss!

"White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America" w/Dr. Anthea Butler Nov 01, 2022
    Show notes

Have a comment? Send us a text! (We read all of them but can't reply). Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.com

This week Josh and Will address the issue of morality and the politicization of it by many on the right. To help them unpack this very complex topic they speak with Dr. Anthea Butler, who is the Geraldine R. Segal Professor in American Social Thought, and chair of the department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Their conversation traces the racist exploitation of the Bible during the slavery era, and resulted in the creation of the Negro Bible. They then turn towards modern day politics and talk about how the Republican Party has drifted away from the days of Lincoln and evolved into their civil war opponents, the Dixiecrats. During this very energetic interview, you will learn how the Bible has been perverted in order to gain moral superiority over those whom they consider "the other", and some insight as to what this portends for 2024.

On this week's podcast your hosts speak with U.S. Representative A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) who was first elected to represent the 4th Congressional District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives and is up for reelection in November again. Faithful Politics is based in the congressman's district (at least Will's anyways, Josh lives in VA-07) so your hosts took the opportunity to get the congressman's thoughts about a wide range of issues. We discuss the inflation reduction act, infrastructure, friendships within congress, and Will asks him if he is the embodiment of President Biden's characterization of MAGA Republican.
U.S. Representative A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) was first elected to represent the 4th Congressional District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives on November 8, 2016. Rep. McEachin was also selected by his colleagues to serve as co-chair of the House Democratic Environmental Message Team, co-chair of the Congressional Black Caucus’ Transportation, Infrastructure, Environment and Energy Policy Council, and vice-chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). During his first term in Congress, Rep. McEachin co-founded the United for Climate and Environmental Justice Congressional Task Force and continues to lead the task force as a co-chair.

"If you had one shot, or one opportunity / To seize everything you ever wanted / One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?" - Eminem, Lose Yourself
Reality Leigh Winner is a former enlisted US Air Force member and NSA Translator. In 2018, she was given the longest prison sentence ever imposed for unauthorized release of government information to the media after she leaked an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections. She was sentenced to five years and three months in federal prison, and charged under the Espionage Act; the same act that has garnered a lot of attention in recent days after the search of the former President's Florida home at Mar-a-Lago. Now that Reality is out of prison and on supervised released, she's telling her side of the story.
Reality's life is complex, and equally compelling when you hear her talk about it. She demonstrates how powerful a family bond can be, and how broken the prison system is. Your hosts ask her about her name, which is very unique, what growing up was like and her passion to enlist in the Air Force. Afterwards they talk about her crime, the prison system, and how her charge under the Espionage Act compares to the former President, and how she doesn't think Trump should serve jail time.
This interview was extremely touching for both of the hosts, and we hope it will help you see Reality for more than just the crime she committed, but a loving daughter, sister, and patriot.

"Seven Mountains Mandate" w/Katherine Stewart Sep 13, 2022
    Show notes

Have a comment? Send us a text! (We read all of them but can't reply). Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.com

Two decades ago, an ideology called “Seven Mountains Dominionism” was considered so fringy that it was never allowed near the podium with Republican political leaders. Now, that very same ideology is a heartbeat away from everything that happens in the Republican Party. This year, in fact, the Road to Majority featured a breakout session titled “The Seven Mountains of Influence.” Seven Mountains dominionism is the conviction that Christians of a certain hyperconservative variety should rightfully dominate the main peaks of modern civilization in the United States and, ultimately, the world. This week we speak with Katherine Stewart, a journalist and author, who has written extensively about the rise of this religious nationalism movement finding its way into all sectors of public life.
NOTE: We had to cut the interview short as our guest was recording outside and it started to rain. We intend to have Katherine back on, as well as, other guests to unpack how the Seven Mountains Mandate is permeating every aspect of American society.
    Guest Bio:
Katherine Stewart is an investigative reporter and author who has covered religious liberty, politics, policy, and education for over a decade. Her latest book, THE POWER WORSHIPPERS: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism, is a rare look inside the machinery of the movement that brought Donald Trump to power. Stewart’s journalism appears in the New York Times op ed, NBC, the New Republic, and the New York Review of Books.
