Episode 289: What is Dyslexia with Phoebe Beacham Jan 28, 2020
    Show notes

What do you know about Dyslexia? To be honest, prior to this conversation I didn’t know much. I thought it was a problem with switching letters around. What I didn’t know is that it is far more complicated than that, and the warning signs are often unrecognized and the after effects of unsupported dyslexia are devastating. Today I’m chatting with Phoebe Beacham, founder of Decoding Dyslexia Utah, and she shares about not only the work she is doing to raise awareness for this learning disability, but also how she has been affected by dyslexia personally. Fascinating and I hope you find this conversation helpful.

Episode 286: Cultivating a Cozy Home and Thoughts on Loss with Liz Marie Galvin Jan 07, 2020
    Show notes

Happy 2020! My guest today is amazing Liz Marie Galvan. Liz is a designer and shop owner (The Found Cottage) in Grand Rapids, Mich. She and her veteran husband live on a “farm fixer upper” from the mid-1800s, working on ways to make their surroundings cozy, in the joyful day-to-day and even in the middle of tumultuous life circumstances that have been beyond their control.

Liz Marie and her husband, Jose, have endured losing nine babies to miscarriages (and, they’ve shared their story very transparently on Liz Marie’s blog. From the homepage, go to “Our Fertility Story.”). They have always wanted to make a cozy home for themselves with children, and Liz Marie always aspired to create a cozy place to return to when Jose was deployed. Through various twists and turns, Liz Marie and Jose recently became parents of a little boy, Copeland Beau, through adoption and are learning every day what “cozy” means to their expanded family. She also recently released “Cozy White Cottage: 100 Ways to Love the Feeling of Being Home ” all about how to increase the coziness and hospitality in your home.

Episode 46: What Can We Learn from Mary and Some Christmas Music Dec 17, 2019
    Show notes

Today, we are talking about Mary. Like Mary, Jesus’ mother. She’s not on the podcast, but I wanted to share some of my feelings about her example as a mother. We had a beautiful lesson with our teenage girls at church last week about the sacrifice and divine calling of Mary, and it was so tender I wanted to share some of those thoughts here. In addition, I wove some Christmas music in there, so if you want to hear my testimony about the Christmas season, here it is. Also, some of my dear friends helped me out on “Silent Night” by participating in a virtual choir. Monica Packer, Rachel Nielson, Georgia Anderson, and Whitney Archibald sang beautifully on that song towards the end of the episode. Merry Christmas and see you in 2020!
