    Experience 50 Podcast for Midlife

Men and women in midlife are drawn to Mary Rogers’ honest take on the experiences of the empty nest, aging parents, spending an inheritance, dating and sex, travel, downsizing things, trashing bad habits and figuring out who you want to be now that you really are all almost grow up.

The podcast is always smart, usually funny, and occasionally painfully real in speaking to the cusp of GenX and Baby Boomers.

E092 Falling In Love with Fitness After Fifty Jan 05, 2017
    Show notes

After a lifetime of being a busy entrepreneur, Joe Weaver at age 57 finally decided it was time to get serious about getting fit.

Over the next two years he scoured the internet, and read everything he could about losing fat and building lean muscle after 50. He tried several programs and got stronger but also got fatter!

Then at 59 he discovered a couple of ancient Ayurvedic techniques that changed his whole relationship with fitness and diet. Instead of a boring chore, exercise became energizing and rejuvenating for the first time.

Over the next six months he was able to shed his excess weight and get in the best shape of his life in time for his 60th birthday. In fact he felt so good he entered an online physique contest for men over 40 and was amazed when he took second place!

Since then he’s written an ebook that’s been sold to thousands of people in 52 countries around the world.

Today Joe is still lean and strong at 65.

His message is: with the right knowledge fitness and weight loss can be easy and enjoyable. And only when it becomes enjoyable will it be sustainable.

It doesn’t require extreme workouts or diets to make this work. And you don’t have to buy any pills, powders or shakes.

E087 Your Not So Empty Nest with Drs Phyllis Goldberg & Rosemary Lichtman Dec 01, 2016
    Show notes

Are family tensions running high in your not-so-empty nest? You are not alone. Mary speaks with the authors of Whose Couch Is It Anyway? Moving Your Millennial, Dr. Phyllis Goldberg and Dr. Rosemary Lichtman on how to make the best of what can be a stressful situation.

The number of "boomerang kids" has increased by 50% in the past 30 years. In fact, one-third of those between the ages of 18 and 34 live with their parents, an all-time high. Many Millennials are unemployed or underemployed, and as a group, they carry $1 trillion in student loans.

What created the shift? Baby Boomer/GenX parenting or did our society create these millennial kids?

E083 Those Damn Pink Ribbons Oct 20, 2016
    Show notes

For women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, the ubiquitous pink ribbons are another reminder that it could come back. We know. We self-exam ourselves with fear, some everyday. The ribbons are fine to remind the lucky ones to get their mammogram, the rest of us never forget the day we got the bad news. Every pink ribbon brings that moment right back.

Experience 50 host Mary Rogers takes us along for the day of her annual breast cancer check-up at a cancer center 250 miles from her home. A lot of miles to spend thinking, bargaining with God.
