FSU vs. Georgia Tech: Can Seminoles snap losing streak vs. Yellow Jackets? feat. Robert Binion of From the Rumble Seat Oct 25, 2022
    Show notes

Florida State Seminoles football (4-3, 2-3 ACC) is rested up and off its second bye of the season, looking to snap a three-game losing streak this Saturday vs. the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-4, 2-2 ACC).

FSU will also be looking to snap a two-game losing streak to Georgia Tech on Saturday at noon, having lost to the Yellow Jackets off a field-goal return in 2015 and in the opening game of the Mike Norvell era in 2020.

The Seminoles are currently 23-point favorites, according to DraftKings, as the Yellow Jackets look to bounce back after a 16-9 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers last Thursday.

On this week’s episode of the Line of Scrimmage, where ahead of each game this football season, we’re giving you insight into Florida State’s opponents from those in the know, we spoke with Robert Binion of our SB Nation sister site, From the Rumble Seat.

Robert, who was one of the first-ever guests on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network to preview that aforementioned 2020 game, jumped on to talk about Georgia Tech’s new life after firing head coach Geoff Collins, what the quarterback situation for the Yellow Jackets looks like, how the offense and defense have looked and a prediction for Saturday.

Can FSU the season finish strong? Will Seminoles win 9, 8 or 7 games? Oct 24, 2022
    Show notes

With their bye week in the rearview mirror, the Florida State Seminoles now face five games in five weeks to close 2022 strong and build toward 2023.

The bye gave them a chance to rest and reset their mindset from a 3-game losing streak. Still ahead of them, a chance to clinch their first bowl game since 2019, the state championship games, a likely ranked contest against Syracuse and a non-conference matchup with Louisiana.

The Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin, Max Escarpio and Jon Marchant — discuss their expectations in each of those 5 games, how they expect Florida State to finish the season and what they need to do to get there.

Could the Noles run the table and take all 5 contests? Could there be unexpected stumbles down the stretch? How will these outcomes shape Mike Norvell’s tenure and Florida State’s path back to the top of college football?

Noles News Now: Latest in Florida State Seminoles sports Oct 24, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things happening in Florida State athletics on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. Yeah, it's Monday again. But at least its an FSU game week Monday. Thanks so much for tuning in. I'm Brian Pellerin on this Monday October 24th.

I hope you used the Florida State football bye week and followed the team's lead in picking up some rest and preparing for the stretch run. Mike Norvell's team got that opporunity to heal up their bodies and minds, clear that 3 game losing streak and charge toward the final 5 games of the season. That stretch run starts with Georgia Tech in Doak this weekend. Kickoff for that is at noon on the ACC Network. Florida State opened as 20.5 point favorite so oddsmakers like them to snap that losing skid and roll through the Yellow Jackets. G-T is 3-4 on the seson with those wins coming against West Carolina, Duke and Pitt. The losses to Clemson, Ole Miss, UCF and Virginia. If FSU takes care of themselves, they should be able to handle business and move one win away from bowl eligibility.

Of course, that's the lowest of expectations for this team down the stretch. Fans are hoping for much more and so is our Seminole Wrap crew. Jon Marchant, Max Escarpio and myself discussed on this week's episode available today. We looked at the team's still on the schedule, gave our confidence in FSU winning, which ones we expect to give them problems -- the answer there might surprise you -- and gave our predictions for the team's final record. Again, that's on Seminole Wrap this week. Episode dropping today.

A bye week also gives the coaching staff a chance to get out on the recruiting trail a bit more as well so now is a great time to check back in with our recruiting and transfer portal thread looking at the Tribe for 2023 to see where the staff was out making moves.

Elsewhere, Link Jarrett got his first win as the FSU baseball coach, sorta. The Noles beat Kennesaw State in its first exhibition game of fall ball. Whole lot of midnights between now and the actual start of the year... Opening Day is February 17th against James Madison.

Speaking of exhibitions! the men's basketball team also wanted to get in on the fun... they'll hold their own on Thursday against Newberry College. Admission for that one is free. Gotta like that. The women's basketball team has their first exhibition on Sunday.

The soccer team got a big bounceback win yesterday defeating Pittsburgh 1-0 with a second half goal and volleyball had an excellent weekend, posting two sweeps. Those straight set wins were over Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

That'll do it for today's Noles News Now. Until Wednesday, I'm Brian Pellerin. Thanks for listening.

Offense, defense, playcalling, coaching: Analyzing FSU after 7 weeks, season predictions and expectations Oct 21, 2022
    Show notes

Florida State Seminoles football (4-3, 2-3 ACC) sits at a crossroads after losing three-straight games — an undefeated start has turned into a just-over .500 record, with FSU showcasing both frustrating self-inflicted mistakes and clear indicators of growth and progress.

The Seminoles currently are in the midst of the team’s second bye week of the year, taking the opportunity to regroup and refocus ahead of the final five games of the year — vs. the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, on the road vs. the Miami Hurricanes, away against the Syracuse Orange and the two home games to finish the year vs. Louisiana-Layfette and the Florida Gators.

In lieu of a writer from Florida State’s opponent for the week, on this week’s Line of Scrimmage, we figured that the best way to look back at the past few weeks was to bring on some names from Tomahawk past. Adam Brown (CoachAB) and Trey Rowland of Xs and Noles and Noles247 jumped on to discuss the Seminoles’ offense and defense, players of note and offer season predictions.

Noles News Now: Latest in Florida State Seminoles sports Oct 17, 2022
    Show notes

Happy Monday and welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things happening in Florida State athletics on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. I'm your

host Brian Pellerin on this Monday October 17th. Thanks so much for joining me. I wish I was here with better news from an F-S-U sports weekend, but that's not meant

    to be.

Another week turned out, brought another top 15 team to FSU's schedule and another mark in the loss column. This time it was Clemson, putting the blemish on FSU's

record. The Tigers used a huge 17 point rally late in the first half and early in the second to jump out to a big lead and never looked back. The Noles were able

to scrap their way to within 6 but never really threatened to win.

At the game's end Coach Norvell saluted the Clemson run game for the success they found with running back Will Shipley and on designed runs for DJ Uieungalelei, but

the Noles really kept Clemson in check outside of that window around halftime. So is this the beginning of the end of another unsuccessful season in Tallahass?

The Seminole Wrap crew isn't ready to write them off yet despite the 3 game losing streak. So what's gone wrong, what do they need to use the bye week for and how will

they perform the rest of the season? That's all covered on the latest episode available later today.

Next up for FSU is a home game with Georgia Tech in two weeks so they can use the bye to prepare, get some rest and heal up some injured players.

This weekend' game was also massive for the Noles recruiting efforts as football and basketball both had some primetime players on campus. For the latest on those

visits and the inside scoop our crew has on those guys, check out our latest recruiting thread. Our guys do a lot of great work and making sure you've got the latest

details on the recruits that could go a long way to getting FSU back where we want them to be so be sure to give that a read and get involved in the conversation.

Elsewhere on campus, FSU volleyball lost to No. 8 Pittsburgh in straight sets. The baseball team is a week away from their first showcase camp and women's tennis

concluded the ITA regionals with one player advancing to the singles consolation semifinals.

That'll do it for today's Noles News Now. Until Wednesday, I'm Brian Pellerin. Thanks for listening.

Is FSU football still on track after three-game losing streak? Oct 17, 2022
    Show notes

For a large majority of Saturday’s loss, the Florida State Seminoles stood toe to toe with the Clemson Tigers. They held the Tigers' rushing attack to under four yards per carry and had plenty of success running the ball on their own. But ultimately, despite the close final score, Clemson was simply too much for Florida State.

That game gives the Noles a third consecutive loss heading into their bye week and has sunk FSU’s short-lived hopes of a potential run to Charlotte.

    Now what?

Does this loss sink the direction of the season and the program as a whole? Or is it just another bumpy step on the road back to consistent competitiveness?

This week, the Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio — look at what went wrong for the Noles in their current skid, why they can’t seem to get over the hump, and what the goal is for the rest of Florida State’s season following the bye week.

INSTANT REACTION: FSU loses to Clemson, the Seminoles fall to 4-3 after third loss of year Oct 16, 2022
    Show notes

The Florida State Seminoles lose to #4 Clemson. The Seminoles started off strong against the Clemson Tigers but after going up 14-7 they fell apart and were never able to come back after that point.

Jordan Travis and the offense moved the ball well at times with a good opening drive and failed to build on that.

The Clemson Tigers did not start the game well but were dominant from the second quarter on led by QB Dj Uiagalelei. The ‘Noles fall to 4-3 losing to three quality opponents in a row.

FSU did come back strong to end the game with the final score being 34-28 but from the second quarter on the ‘Noles were down and could not come back to win.

While the Seminoles started off 4-0 they have dropped three straight games against Wake Forest, NC State and Clemson their toughest stretch of the season has proven to be very difficult.

Looking forward they have a bye week upcoming and 5 more games to end the season with one ranked opponent (Syracuse) and big games against Florida and Miami who have both struggled this season.

The bare minimum expectation should be a bowl appearance but 8 to 9 wins is not an unrealistic expectation as FSU will likely be favored in 4 of their 5 final games.

The offense has shown flashes at times and the defense has had moments too but they never seem to be in the same game against these more difficult opponents.

FSU vs. Clemson breakdown: Can Seminoles upset Tigers in Tallahassee? feat. Will Harper of Shakin the Southland Oct 12, 2022
    Show notes

Two shared opponents, two different outcomes in both matchups.

The ACC Atlantic has turned into one of the more competitive divisions in college football this season, with the No. 4 Clemson Tigers, No. 14 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, No. 15 NC State Wolfpack, No. 18 Syracuse Orange and Florida State all battling it out at the top. Clemson (6-0, 4-0 ACC), by way of wins over Wake and NC State, has separated itself as the leader of the pack while the rest scrap it out for pecking order.

FSU (4-2, 2-2 ACC) also faced off against the Demon Deacons and Wolfpack but came up short, both frustrating losses that showcased both the steps the Seminoles still have to make in order to elevate to the conference’s elite and the potential it has to belong with them.

The toughest test of the season for the Seminoles now comes as they prep to host Clemson at 7:30 p.m. inside Doak Campbell Stadium. The Tigers have won six straight in the series, dating back to a 2014 thriller between the two schools that Florida State pulled off in overtime.

Clemson, according to DraftKings, is currently a 3.5 point favorite over the Seminoles.

To help break down the Tigers, Will Harper of our SB Nation sister site Shakin the Southland jumped on the latest episode of Line of Scrimmage to talk about Clemson’s season so far, the evolution of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, the Tigers’ strengths and weaknesses on each side of the ball and a prediction for Saturday night.

You can catch some of his answers below, or you can listen here or find the episode on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, or wherever you listen to your shows.

FSU football: Time to panic after two-game losing streak? Oct 12, 2022
    Show notes

The Florida State Seminoles dropped their second straight game to fall to 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC. Frustrating losses to Wake Forest and NC State have FSU facing a potential 0-3 start to October as they now play host to the No. 4 Clemson Tigers this Saturday.

The loss at NC State came via a second-half collapse that saw the run game struggle and quarterback Jordan Travis throw two interceptions leading to a scoreless performance from the offense.

So what went wrong for Florida State to lead to that collapse, and is there reason to worry about the two-game losing streak?

The Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio — discuss each of those questions and more like the choice to put the ball in the air on the final offensive play instead of playing for the field goal. Plus they look ahead to next weekend, where the Seminoles can improve to pull the upset against Clemson and give their predictions for Saturday.

Can FSU win at NC State for first time since 2016? Florida State Seminoles vs. Wolfpack breakdown, preview feat. Rob McLamb of FanNation’s All Wolfpack on Sports Illustrated Oct 07, 2022
    Show notes

Florida State football hasn’t won on the road vs. NC State since 2016.

Since 2010, the Seminoles have won just twice inside Carter-Finley Stadium, one of the nation’s most hostile home environments.

Both teams are coming off their first loss of the season — FSU having fallen to the No. 15 Wake Forest Demon Deacons 31-21 and the No. 14 Wolfpack falling to the No. 5 Clemson Tigers 30-20.

That group of teams (Clemson, Wake Forest, Florida State and NC State) seem to be the frontrunners in an extremely competitive ACC Atlantic, with the Seminoles, Demon Deacons and Wolfpack seeming to be jockeying for second.

On this week’s Line of Scrimmage, Coach Rob McLamb of FanNation’s All Wolfpack on Sports Illustrated joins us to break down what he describes as a “separator game” that’ll show who is truly a contender to have a significant season. He offers insight into NC State’s offense and defense, names to know, and other insider analysis ahead of Saturday night’s game.
