Can FSU football bounce back, beat. NC State on the road? Oct 05, 2022
    Show notes

Florida State Seminoles football, sitting at 4-1 (2-1 ACC), is looking to buck a few trends this Saturday in Raleigh.

The No. 14 NC State Wolfpack present a variety of challenges to Florida State, who looking to bounce back after a 31-21 loss at home to the No. 15 Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

FSU hasn’t won on the road vs. NC State since 2016, has lost two straight vs. the Wolfpack, and is looking to avoid turning its first loss of the season into a two-game slide. FSU leads the all-time series vs. NC State 26-15 but the Wolfpack have won five of their last six games against the Seminoles.

So can Florida State pull off an upset on the road? What are the main takeaways from FSU’s loss to the Demon Deacons? What is more of a threat — NC State’s offense or defense?

Max Escarpio, Jon Marchant and Perry Kostidakis discuss on the latest episode of the Seminole Wrap.

FSU is 3-point underdog to NC State, Seminoles soccer beats Miami -- latest Florida State Seminoles sports updates Oct 03, 2022
    Show notes

Hello everyone, happy Monday and welcome to Noles News Now, the latest in Florida State Seminoles sports, brought to you by Tomahawk Nation. I’m your host Perry Kostidakis — let’s jump right in.

FSU football is turning its attention towards NC State after dropping its first game of the year and falling out of the top 25. The Seminoles couldn’t overcome a sloppy first half in a comeback bid against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and now will have to try to steal one on the road vs. the Wolfpack, who are coming off a top 10 loss to Clemson.

Right now, DraftKings has NC State as a 3-point favorite over FSU, which actually is pretty favorable towards the Seminoles — you assume about a 3-point cushion for home teams, so in Vegas’ eyes, this is a relative toss-up. Seminoles will have their hands full, especially with Wolfpack quarterback Devin Leary who is one of the conference’s best, but the team is going to be chomping at the bit to redeem itself after the performance against Wake.

That game vs. NC State is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff, it’ll be broadcast on the ACC Network.

On the soccer front, No. 7 FSU remained undefeated after notching a 1-0 victory over Miami Hurricanes on Saturday — you can read a full recap on Tomahawk Nation. Up next for the defending national champions is a tough stretch of conference opponents — No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 4 Duke Blue Devils and then No. 3 North Carolina Tar Heels. FSU has put together one of the country’s best offenses and a defense that has only allowed 4 goals in 10 games, and now it’s going to get a chance to prove itself as it seeks a repeat title.

Volleyball beat North Carolina in a five-set thriller to advance to 10-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play — the Seminoles now face off against Miami this Wednesday. FSU sits No. 20 in RPI while the Hurricanes, who are 11-3 on the season, sit at No. 14.

Those are the main big things of the day — thank you for listening and supporting us — if you want more of something we’re doing, if you want us to change anything up, please please either leave a comment on the website or in a review.

Thank you again for listening — we’ll see you next time.

FSU loses to Wake Forest -- Seminoles struggle on offense, defense in first loss of season Oct 01, 2022
    Show notes

The last time Wake Forest had a three-game winning streak over Florida State in football was 2008 — also the same year that the two teams met for the first time as ranked opponents.

The second iteration of a top 25 game ended up just as unpleasant for FSU, with the No. 23 Seminoles failing to overcome a poor first half and falling to No. 23 Wake Forest 31-21.

    FSU was a six-point favorite.

FSU mustered just 7 points in the first two quarters of the game, sputtering on offense after an 83-yard touchdown drive to start the contest. Its inability to stay on the field was coupled by an inability on the defense’s part to get off it — at halftime, the Demon Deacons were seven-of-12 on third, a large reason behind its 21-7 lead.

Florida State came out firing in the second half, managing to cut the lead to a touchdown early in the fourth, but Wake Forest managed to drive 75 yards to more or less put the game away with just under four minutes left. The Demon Deacons had four drives of 70+ yards, scoring points on all of them.

It was obvious early on that FSU was sincerely missing the talents of defensive lineman Fabien Lovett and offensive lineman Robert Scott, both of whom would have made a major difference in attacking and defending a Wake line that came to play on both sides of the ball.

Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald, who has struggled this season, was zero-for-two on the day.

The loss is Florida State’s fourth straight as a ranked team (2018 Virginia Tech, 2017 NC State, 2017 Alabama) and likely will push the Seminoles out of the poll once more.

FSU vs. Wake Forest: How do Seminoles, Demon Deacons matchup? feat. Cam Lemons Sep 30, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to the Line of Scrimmage, where ahead of each game this football season, we’re giving you insight into Florida State’s opponents from those in the know.

This week, we welcome Cam Lemons from our SB Nation sister site Blogger So Dear, as No. 22 Florida State Seminoles football is set to take on the No. 23 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the first of three ranked matchups for FSU.

Wake is coming off a thriller vs. Clemson, coming up just short in an upset bid vs. the Tigers. Quarterback Sam Hartman has returned to form as one of the conference’s better passes and while the Demon Deacons have struggled a bit to dominate on defense, are still heading into the matchup as a difficult matchup for a Seminoles team still trying to solidify its return to consistent competitiveness.

FSU is ranked, undefeated and now the hard part starts -- Seminoles football breakdown, season projections Sep 26, 2022
    Show notes

Florida State Seminoles football is off to its best start in seven years, having just blown out the Boston College Eagles in front of a sold-out crowd to start 4-0 (2-0 ACC) for the first time since 2015.

FSU also has a number next to its name for the first time since the 2018 season opener, earning a No. 23/22 ranking (AP/Coaches Poll) heading into this week’s matchup vs. No. 22/21 Wake Forest.

It’s the first of three straight games against top 25 opponents, with No. 10 NC State and No. 5 Clemson the next two matchups on the schedule.

It’ll be a true indicator of where the Seminoles are in head coach Mike Norvell’s third season — have they taken a step to be pretty good, or have they exceeded expectations there?

On this week’s Seminole Wrap, the trio break down what has made Florida State so good so far in 2022, what the next few weeks of the season could look like and more.

INSTANT REACTION: FSU gets 5-star WR commit -- what does Hykeem Williams bring to Seminoles? Sep 23, 2022
    Show notes

Two blue-chip commits in one week.

Just a few days after Florida State Seminoles football secured a pledge from four-star California linebacker Blake Nichelson, head coach Mike Norvell and staff earned a commitment from four-star receiver Hykeem Williams.

An instant boost to a 2023 Florida State recruiting class that continues to climb, Williams’ commitment is just the latest bit of momentum for the Seminoles on the trail.

Florida State put every bit of effort into recruiting the Fort Lauderdale prospect, finally earning his confidence with a 3-0 start to the season.

Williams chose the Seminoles over the Texas A&M Aggies, Pittsburgh Panthers, Miami Hurricanes, and Georgia Bulldogs.

This week, we welcome Curtis Flannery from our SB Nation sister site BC Interruption to give us some insight on the Boston College Eagles. BC is 1-2 on the season, having secured a 38-17 win vs. Maine but falling to Rutgers 22-21 and Virginia Tech 27-10.

While the Eagles return big names on offense in quarterback Phil Jurkovec, receiverZay Flowers and running back Pat Garwo, they’ve struggled to adjust along the trenches on both offense and defense.

    Show notes

Mike Norvell’s Florida State Seminoles football program got a big boost late Tuesday evening when four-star linebacker Blake Nichelson committed to FSU over the Oregon Ducks.

Nichelson, who plays both ways in high school was a priority target for the Noles at a position of need and could portend an amazing week on the trail for Florida State with five-star wide receiver prospect Hykeem Williams set to announce his college choice on Friday.

The Three Stars discuss Nichelson’s game and whether or not he can make an early impact in Tallahassee.

Seminoles are 3-0 -- how big was FSU’s win over Louisville? Plus previewing Seminoles vs. Boston College Sep 19, 2022
    Show notes

The Florida State Seminoles moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 35-31 victory on the road Friday night against the Louisville Cardinals, doing so as injuries forced many of their star players to the sideline.

After Jordan Travis left the game with an apparent leg injury, backup QB Tate Rodemaker struggled but came out in the second half clicking with wide receiver Johnny Wilson en route to two 4th quarter touchdowns and a Florida State victory.

So where does the team go from here potentially without Travis, defensive end Jared Verse and other starters? The Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio — celebrate the Noles big victory, look ahead to the Boston College game this weekend and what could be coming if those players aren’t able to return to 100% soon.

Plus, stick around at the end of the podcast for a fun look behind the curtain for the voicemail, Brian left for our producer Perry after Friday’s celebration. How ‘bout those Noles?
