Did You Gain Weight? Jul 26, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, Deb and I talk about the ins and outs of commenting on other people's weight gain or weight loss and how this effects our society as a whole. We also share tips and tricks on how to deal with weight related comments when you are on the receiving end and how to change the way you relate to weight loss and weight gain conversations. Why comment on weight at all? Why is it that we feel we have to comment on people's weight changes and why can't we just ignore the fact that our weight changes all the time? Our body is not a static robot that is the same every day. No, our body works and grows and sheds and transforms every second of your life. The more you try to hold on to one specific form the more you will hurt yourself, which is why it's crucial to take a step back and reconsider the glorification of weight loss in our society and in our everyday life. The more we can see people as a whole instead of just taking out one tiny part, the more we will be able to break free from the chains of body weight. You Don’t Have to Earn Your Food Jul 18, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, Deb and I talk about feeling like you need to earn your food, never having the perfect diet day, gentle movement, Wayne Dyer, calorie counting and so much more. We give you tips and hints on how you can stop believing that you are your weight and that food is something that you have to deny yourself. We share some personal stories about how we came to the point of freedom from thinking that food needs to be rationed and how it impacted our lives. I mention the book Mindless Eating – Why We Eat More than We Think by Dr. Brian Wansink. He shares the many reasons we don’t – and supposedly can’t – eat mindfully, why our stomachs can’t think, how we’re being manipulated by the food industry, how we use external clues to figure out our hunger and satiation levels and more. If you listen to his research, we are nothing more than machines, operating on autopilot, having completely lost trust in our own abilities to experience hunger and fullness, satiation and lust. It might seem quite discouraging, but it's also super interesting. Check out the book if you like. Check out Deb’s blog “We are more than good enough” here. Love and light, Enjoyed this episode? You Don’t Need To Punish Your Body Because You’re Fat Jul 05, 2018

In this episode of the Escape Diet Prion I am joined by Victoria Welsby. Victoria is a body image activist, confidence expert, Adjunct Professor at UBC and TEDx speaker. She went from being homeless, abused with self esteem that was achingly low into the courageous fat activist and change maker she is today. Victoria helps people fall in love with themselves and is dedicated to changing the way society views fat bodies. We talk about how being fat doesn't equate to immediately dying from several diseases (d'uh), how to love your fat body, trauma around food and having access to food and shame around your body size. We also discuss how to deal with critics who tell you that fat acceptance is dangerous, power mantras and how to not care about what people think of you, fatphobia and how people pretend to be concerned about your health. Victoria then shares more about how to respond to people who fat shame you, marginalized bodies, using the term "fat" and what is still missing in the conversation around fat, food and weight. We examine the political aspects of being fat and confident as well as the fact that it's totally OK to use food as comfort and how you can get from using Intuitive Eating as another diet to eating with total freedom and no rules. And much much more. Ready to change YOUR life? Book your 30-minute breakthrough session with me here and start living a life free of diet prison today. Love and light, Enjoyed this episode? 7 Ways to Stop Body Checking Jun 05, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast we talk about body checking, the cost of it and how to begin beating the body checking monster in you to the ground. Lovingly, of course. ;) Body checking is the repeated act of "checking" specific body parts or your entire body. Some body check five times a minutes, others once an hour, but most often, those who struggle with their body image, body check in a rather frequent rhythm. The sneaky monster called body checking can show up as constant critical looks in the mirror, trying on certain clothes over and over again, pinching your fat, even measuring the circumference of your arms. Weighing yourself daily (or more often), feeling your bones (can I feel them yet?) or squeezing your belly are also "simple" signs of a harmful relationship with your body and its image. Body checking is obviously destructive, time-consuming and devastating for your self-confidence. Letting go of body checking is therefor an essential step on the way to body neutrality and freedom from food obsession. Here are the 7 steps to stop body checking that Deb and I discuss: Get crystal clear of the cost of body checking What is body checking costing you for real? Relationships, money, time, happiness? Is it worth the power you give it? Slow down to speed up It's all in the baby steps. Yes, you'll have to decide to break up with the body checking part of you, but you also need to be aware of the process: it's a daily practice that will take its time. Use the power of mantras and affirmations To support yourself on the road to body checking, you'll need to create pillars that ground you in the moment. Listen to this episode of the podcast for suggestions. How do you body check? Having a clear picture of how exactly it is you body check will give you a perfect idea of why you body check. Create contact with your body Replace your usual body checking motions with more empowering contact. Instead of critically checking and judging, allow your hands to caress and love. Get clear on what it is you're looking for? Why do you body check? What are you looking for? Is that a realistic and tangible thing or is it an idea in your head, a hope for safety and peace of mind? Stop following society's rules! You do not need to live on the diet band waggon just because society does. Pave your own path and create your very own bubble of confidence and freedom.
