    EQ Gangster

EQ Gangster is specifically for leaders, business owners, entrepreneurs & other influencers who are honest enough to admit that they just might be the ones holding themselves back & who are brave enough to change that. Research is showing that your Emotional Quotient (also known as Emotional Intelligence) is a bigger indicator of success than your IQ, your education & your experience.

In each episode, Noble offers practical, candid, and often humorous clarity for the modern leader who is brave enough to do the most uncomfortable work they’ll ever do: change THEMSELF! Interviews with other leaders help you see how EQ can transform the way you lead, do business and live your life.

Noble Gibbens, West Point grad and Army veteran, has been coaching people for over 20 years. After an uncharacteristic fight with his wife a few years ago, he started learning about & growing his own Emotional Intelligence (EQ). What he learned transformed him from the inside out – in every area. He’s sharing the breakthroughs here on the EQ Gangster podcast, in his membership, EQ Mafia, and with his corporate clients.

#160: Massaging Your Emotional Knots Aug 05, 2021
    Show notes

Powerful analogy about how our emotions impact us that can eventually lead to getting completely emotionally hijacked.

Unaddressed emotional issues can cause emotional "knots".

If we don't take the time / make the time to "massage" our emotional "knots" they WILL turn into an emotional "charlie horse" that can "lock up" your emotional "muscles".

You "massage" your emotional "knots" by "going A.P.E."

    "A": Acknowledge your emotions.

"P": Permission to feel those emotions.

"E": Express those emotions through journaling.

    Show notes
    1. If you feel an inkling to reach out to someone to tell them how they impacted you or how much you love & appreciate them, reach out to them & tell them how they made you feel. Don't let them die without you telling them. You don't want to live with that regret.
    2. If there is a goal or dream you've always wanted, now is the time to pursue it. Don't wait. Don't hesitate.
    3. I learned the first lesson after my father died 11 years ago. He told me for 3 years that he love me, he was proud of me and that he believed in me.

#158: 13 Lessons from My Most Recent Funk Jul 29, 2021
    Show notes

How I feel after 2 months of being in a funk & some of the lessons I've learned.

Lesson from finally returning back to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) after taking 2 mos off.

BJJ is therapy for me, physically, mentally & emotionally.

    1. Physical exercise is huge in helping us through emotional low points. Even 5 push-ups a day or 10 sit-ups or even just stretching. Do SOMETHING physical throughout an emotional funk.

Yes, I made poor eating decisions the past 2 mos & didn't exercise the past 2 mos, but what are the positives I DID do over the past 2 mos?

    1. Note / list what things you ARE doing well even in the midst of an emotional funk.
    1. Forgive yourself for making poor decisions while in the emotional funk.
    1. Find a friend or mentor that you can be accountable to & share with them how you're doing.
    1. What routines were you doing prior to your funk that you can start doing again that can act as a "positive (emotional) trigger"?
    1. What friend can you connect with that makes you feel special? Reach out to them.
    1. Maybe you need a break in your routine.
    1. Set a time frame if you DO end up taking a break in your routine. Set a start & end date. The end date can also be a time where you just re-assess. Make it a conscious decision of when you start & stop your breaks.
    1. Give yourself grace & patience ESPECIALLY when you're in a funk.
    1. When you DO take 3 steps forward & 2 steps back, that is actually a sign that you ARE growing & changing.
    1. Journal through an emotional funk.
    1. Get better at recognizing and paying attention to when & why I go into a funk.
    1. Take an online course or a class about something you've always wanted to learn or do that can possibly inspire you or encourage you.

#157: The Power of Reaching Out Jul 26, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode I share about the overwhelming power of reaching out to friends, family & co-workers that may or may not be struggling.

I share a couple very encouraging, even overwhelming stories of how so many in my life showed me support during the emotional funk I've been going through.

My neighborhood fb group supported me. My West Point classmates supported me. Sooo many friends & family supported me. It was overwhelming at how encouraging everyone has been through this season.

Reach out to someone if God puts them on your heart. Just send them an encouraging quote or text or Bible verse.

I also share a neat story from my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach, John Roy, who was a podcast called "Mentor Podcast" that was very encouraging.
