Being Jesus in Your World Oct 04, 2015
    Show notes

God has given each follower of Jesus our own world to impact … a select sphere of influence. For some it is quite large and for others it is smaller. But what matters most is that we realize why (the purpose) He has given us our own unique spot to impact with our individual lives. Simply put: the reason we are here is so that we can be Jesus in this place. In other words, we are to embody Christ our Lord for everyone to see. And as we do, then we’ll be bringing His … story, salvation Gospel, love, service, grace, joy and everything else about Jesus to the people around us, those we are closest to and those we barely know. So how do we make this happen? The Apostle Paul tells us that if we are going to be Jesus to the folks around us then there are (1) some key axioms (truths) we’ve got to believe; (2) some specific action steps we have to take and (3) some definite attitudes we have to embrace. This week we’ll learn about the axioms and next week we’ll look at the actions and the attitudes.

    Communion... Why? Sep 27, 2015
    Show notes

Most of us were told by our parents to do a certain something and when we asked them why we should, they responded with, “Because I told you so.” It can be sort of like that when it comes to communion. Most of us take the bread and the cup with little real understanding of the “why” of it, other than because “Jesus said so.” Communion is one of two ritualistic practices that Jesus gave to His Church. Baptism, which we studied last Sunday, is the other. Today we want to get back in touch with the reasons why communion is such an important time in the life of the church and learn to appreciate it all over again as we learn God’s reasons for the ritual.

What The Bible Says About Believer's Baptism Sep 20, 2015
    Show notes

Baptism was a common practice in the culture of Jesus and the early church. It is something people saw often and realized what it meant. But in the eyes of many today, the Christian ritual of baptism is kind of a strange looking thing to do. Honestly, dunking someone under water in a pool, river or water tank inside a church building looks and feels odd. However, if the meaning is explained and the symbolism is understood, then baptism not only makes a lot of sense, but it can be seen as the beautiful act that God designed it to be. So, the goal of this message is to help everyone at Eastmont Church to be fully aware of the Biblical meaning of being baptized in water (believer’s baptism) and to invite those of us who have never done so, to experience water baptism as a follower of Jesus.

A Good Look at Our Great God Sep 13, 2015
    Show notes

In our previous study of Philippians 2:5-11 we learned that Jesus has always existed as fully God and that He also became completely human when He came to Earth. But why did He, as God, become human? In other words, what were His reasons for becoming like us? The answer to this question is multi-faceted and absolutely amazing. In fact, the more we appreciate why Jesus became human the more we’ll understand what a Great God He truly is!

    Revelation 21

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”a]">[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’b]">[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Getting Jesus' Joy in Us Aug 16, 2015
    Show notes

Jesus is full of joy. He created happiness. No one smiles as broad as He does. No one laughs louder than Him. No one “lights up the room” like Him. No one has more fun in life than He does and no one is more enjoyable to be around than He is. No one can make your life lighter and ease your burdens better than He can. And the truth is, no one wants to fill your life with joy more than Jesus! WOW … that’s who our Lord is. So how do we experience more of His joy? What needs to happen to change us from the stereotypical “doom & gloom” church person to an overflowing with joy follower of Jesus that attracts others toward our Lord? That’s what we’ll see today as we look at one of the most important passages in all the Bible when it comes to understanding who Jesus is, what He has done for us, and why He is so worth us following wholeheartedly.
