    From Hassles
 to Harmony Jan 03, 2016
    Show notes

Going into 2016 tons of resolutions will be made. The most important will have to do with building healthy relationships. It will also be the toughest, because you see, Satan loves to cause conflict between people, Christians in particular, most especially in our homes and in Christ’s church. So then, one of our greatest needs has to do with avoiding conflicts before they take root and resolving them when they do. And believer, if God has given to anyone the ability to live in relational harmony with others, well, it is you and me as followers of Jesus. So how do we move away from hassles and build harmony into our relationships? This message and next, as we study Philippians 4:1-5, we’ll learn from the Apostle Paul how it can be accomplished. Think about it: The better we are at living in harmony the holier and happier 2016 will be for all of us!

Finding Spiritual Focus Dec 13, 2015
    Show notes

In our previous study (Philippians 3:12-16) we learned about experiencing forward spiritual momentum. But the problem with momentum alone is that while it can propel you ahead it can also be taking you down the wrong road. Consider for example the latest terrorist act in San Bernardino, California. The shooters had lots of zealous momentum yet they were completely focused on the wrong thing spiritually. Obviously, for spiritual momentum to be genuinely effective it has to be coupled with the right focus. So here’s what we have to see . . . When we allow spiritual momentum and true spiritual focus to be brought together in our lives by the Holy Spirit then we will be right where we are supposed to be in our walk with Jesus. It means that spiritually we’ll not only have the wind in our sails but that it will be blowing us toward the right shore! What then are the things that our Lord would have us focus our eyes upon spiritually to give direction to our momentum? The Apostle Paul gives us six spiritual realities to be looking at constantly in order to find our spiritual focus in a world that is completely out of focus.

Finding Spiritual Momentum Dec 06, 2015

Let’s start with a question: Is your walk with Jesus joyfully moving ahead, apathetically status quo, frustratingly stagnated, or in full retreat? If they were being honest, most believers (indeed whole churches) in our current culture would answer stagnation, status quo or retreat rather than happily advancing. But here’s the deal, genuinely following Jesus is all about forward momentum in our journey with Him. In fact, it is only when our progress is straight ahead with Christ that our spiritual life can be joyful, free, powerful and satisfying. When forward progress isn’t happening then we’ll become stuck in the mud of spiritual apathy, guilt, frustration and defeat. This is not what the Lord designed us for! So then, how do we keep moving onward and upward with Him? Here in Philippians 3:12-16, Scripture gives us six truths that the Holy Spirit uses to help us find joyful forward moving spiritual momentum as we follow Jesus.

    Loving The Church
That Jesus Loves Nov 22, 2015
    Show notes

In the Bible, those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus as their God and Savior are individually called “Christians” and collectively referred to as “the Church.” Now the truth is, make no mistake about it . . . Jesus is “head over heels” in love with the Church. So much so, that to illustrate the emotion and intensity of His love for us, the New Testament calls the Church the “bride” of Christ. This great word picture helps us see Jesus gazing lovingly upon the Church like a bridegroom who can’t take his eyes off of his bride. It helps us realize that His heart beats for His people like that of a man full of passion for his new wife on their wedding day! Quite truthfully, Jesus would do anything for His bride because He loves her so much. And here’s the deal, if our Savior has this kind of love for the people of His Church, then those of us who comprise the Church need to have this same level of love for one another. Today, Pastors Blaine, Chris & John work together to help us discover and renew our vision for loving the Church that Jesus loves.

The Serious Business Of Joy Nov 15, 2015
    Show notes

For the follower of Jesus, joy is serious business. Indeed, if anyone in this hurting world is capable of having a happy heart it should be those who love Christ and know He loves them. But even for believers, circumstances can make being joyful a challenge. Take for example, the Philippian Christians of Paul’s day. Times were atrociously tough for them. They were undergoing frightening persecution for their faith and most of them were struggling with the daily grind of living in deep poverty. Back then they were simply looking for a little relief through a bit of happiness ... just like people still do today. But the problem with happiness is that it can be elusive to find and, once you do, it disappears so easily. Knowing this, Paul speaks to the hearts of Christ’s followers about where true happiness (joy) is found and how to hang on to it. Here in Philippians 3:1-3 we’ll learn God’s principles for a happier heart so that we’ll more fully experience the joy Jesus gives and also be better able to bring His joy to others as our testimony of Him.

Loving Others With Honor Nov 08, 2015
    Show notes

The Bible says that Christians will be able to demonstrate the reality of their faith in Jesus on the basis of how well we love each other (John 13:35). Now a very tangible way of showing love is by giving honor. In Romans 12:10 the Apostle Paul tells us ... Love each other by taking delight in honoring one another. To honor another person is to bless them for the good thing they have done (conduct) and/or the good person they have become (character). The simple truth is that when we truly love someone we will look for a way to honor that person. Today, we want to look at the story of two men who showed their love for one another by openly honoring each other. You know them as blind Bartimaeus and Jesus the Savior.

Becoming God's Giant Blessing To Others Nov 01, 2015
    Show notes

Have you ever known someone that always seems to make life better for the people around them? It’s easy to recognize such a person because they benefit whomever they are with. The Apostle Paul had just this kind of buddy at his side when he was . . . a prisoner in Rome for preaching about the Gospel “kingdom” of Jesus . . . falsely accused of being an international terrorist enemy against the Roman Empire . . . waiting to go on trial before the insane, blood-thirsty, murderous Emperor Nero. Well, this friend’s name was Epaphroditus and he proved to be one of God’s best gifts ever to Paul as he both wrote the Bible book we call Philippians and waited in chains for two years to be judged by Nero. In our study of Philippians 2:25-30, we’ll discover what made Epaphroditus such a giant blessing to Paul. The truth is, Scripture doesn’t actually tell us much about this amazing follower of Jesus. In fact, what little we know about the man is right here in these few verses. However, they tell enough to show us the qualities that the Holy Spirit built into Epaphroditus’ life, and that we need Him to build into our lives, so that we also can become God’s giant blessing to the lives we come in contact with all the time.
