    DOM Episode 39 – Dynasty Owner’s Mock Draft Apr 08, 2019
    Show notes

The NFL Draft is almost upon us and analyst rankings are being shuffled as the debate on traits and production near their end. While the Draft ends speculation on landing spot, the fantasy discussion on future volume begins to take shape. But all we have to rely on now is the data at hand and our own sources of input and valuation process. The DOM crew teamed up with the DevyOM squad to walk through a first-round mock draft. Process, players, and production are critical as we look to improve our rosters. The mock draft and the discussion during the show is a great mental exercise for how each manager should approach their own while substituting in their preferred players at the proper draft slot. Plus, an outtake at the end of the show!

    Topics Discussed:

    • Draft process
    • Player production
    • Best/Worst case landing spots
    • Owner’s Manual Top 12
    • Players not mentioned

    DOM Episode 38 – Jesse Reeves (@JesseReevesFF) Apr 01, 2019
    Show notes

The process for evaluating rookies can be difficult with multiple sources of input. The draft is nearly here and the dynasty community has been overloaded with content. From The Combine to the information released after Pro Days, the rankings are being constantly adjusted as we learn more. Grinding tape and analyzing data never stops so a process for establishing a baseline value is immensely useful. Jesse Reeves from FFStatistics stopped by to talk with the DOM crew. Jesse’s new to the rankings scene and provides his input on how he determines how to rack and stack the incoming class. Afterward, the player discussion begins. The primary offensive positions are tackled with a discussion on traits, value, and landing spot.

    Topics Discussed:

    • Sources of Input/Inspiration
    • Draft Process
    • Wide Receivers (Metcalf, Brown)
    • Running Backs (Sanders, Barnes)
    • Quarterbacks (Haskins, Lock)

    DOM Episode 37 – Ethan Turner (@ETurnerFF_PT) Mar 25, 2019
    Show notes

Injuries can change…everything. They can change our value on the player, the offense, the placement player…everything. But how much? Our perception and prognostication of how injuries affect a player vary between dynasty managers. Ethan Turner is here to help set us straight. Both his experience and profession help him determine what’s important in analyzing an injury occurrence. He sat down with the DOM crew to go over his process and provided some nuggets on what we can do to improve our perception of injuries. Of course, we couldn’t let him come on without some practical application. From Andrew Luck to Jordan Reed, Ethan provided a blueprint for approaching player value and how we can assess their outlook as more information from the league if provided.

    Topics Discussed:

    • What to look for on tape
    • Do we overvalue injuries?
    • Types of injuries and their impact on a position
    • Players discussed:
      • Andrew Luck
      • Cam Newton
      • Jordan Reed
      • Tyler Eifert

    DOM Episode 36 – Peter Howard (@pahowdy) Mar 19, 2019
    Show notes

The offseason is when the public spends most of its time on Narrative Street. Evidence-based takes fall into the background as we argue over prospect highlight reels and what-if scenarios regarding draft position or NFL production. It’s a season unto itself.

We had to bring Peter back to help us zero in on what matters. Or, at least, what doesn’t matter. His analysis into college production gives us the signals and thresholds for prospects. Are they 100% effective? Nope. But we can extract a process for evaluating a player based on what information is available. Outliers or players that buck the trend can come from any class. But as dynasty managers, we’ll need something to clue us in on a player’s potential to keep them on our squad.

    • Film vs Analytics
    • The Josh Jacob’s Rabbit Hole
    • Can film study change your opinion?
    • Process for selecting the 1.01

    DOM Episode 35 – The Dynasty Dummies (@DynastyDummies) Mar 11, 2019
    Show notes

The events preceding the NFL Draft always produce multiple narratives for each player. The Senior Bowl and Combine offer different views of the incoming draft class and it can be difficult to sort through what’s important. So instead of getting one voice to talk through the data, we got two. Zac Reed (@tacitassassin13) and Kyle LaBreck (@klabreck) are two of the most insightful analysts when it comes to assessing prospects and what they mean for your dynasty squad. We corralled them onto the show to talk about the latest events surround the NFL draft and specific players that should be on our radars as rookie drafts approach.

    Topics Discussed:

    • What events from The Combine matter most?
    • How do we process information taken from the Senior Bowl?
    • Who most affected their draft stock after the Combine?
    • Players to keep an eye on
