    DOM Episode 53 – Sigmund Bloom (@SigmundBloom) Aug 29, 2019
    Show notes

We’re a week out from the 2019 season and the offseason debates will finally be settled. Sort of. Through the chaos that is the regular season, it can be hard to find definitive proof who’s right or wrong. Right, wrong, or right for the wrong reasons still gives us an opportunity to review the information we used to get us to our decision. Our process is always something we can adjust and a healthy combination of analytics and narratives can get us there. There’s nobody better than the Mayor of Narrative Street to give us insight into how to use them to our advantage. Bloom outlines his thought process to the DOM crew using the 2019 offseason as a backdrop. With the season upon us, it’s time to pay attention and wait for new information to adjust our strategy.

    Topics Discussed:

    • The purpose of narratives in fantasy football
    • Team-level discussion
      • Investing in the play-callers vs the players
    • Player discussion
      • Damien Williams’ talent vs situation
      • Todd Gurley in 2019
      • Curtis Samuel drumbeat

    Show notes

The final episode in our position series. We’ve covered it all to date, but we can’t forget the tight end postiion. More and more viable options have popped up over the last few seasons, but there’s more to the position than being able to catch a pass. Frequent guest Derek Brown (TQE, Fantasy Black Book, Triple T pod) stops by to go over his thoughts about the position. From the rookies to the vets, there are traits and team needs that separate the elite from the rest.

    Topics Discussed:

    • Nuances to the position
    • Metrics used for evaluation
    • Drafting tight ends in start ups
    • Player situations
      • The Big Three

    DOM Episode 51 – Justin Edwards (@Justin_Redwards) Jul 15, 2019
    Show notes

Part 4 of the positional series…isn’t a singular position. It can be argued that offensive line play drives most of the production that we as fantasy managers care so much about. But ‘the trenches’ aren’t our focus. We look at the guy with the ball. But how is the quarterback afforded the time to scan the field? How are rushing lanes formed? It’s often discussed as a by-product not THE product that can help or hurt fantasy scoring. Justin Edwards (4for4, Pro Football Focus) sits down with the DOM crew to go over his process for evaluating a unit and how teams adjust to their personnel.

    Topics Discussed:

    • Common misconceptions of offensive line
    • The minutia: why we should care about OL strength
    • Situations to monitor?
      • HOU, SEA, NO, LAR
    • Film discussion

    DOM Episode 50 – Bob Lung (@Bob_Lung) Jul 08, 2019
    Show notes

The running back position has so much nuance to it that we struggle to identify what’s important. Blocking schemes, surrounding talent, snaps…it all becomes a part of our vocabulary when, sometimes, the production speaks for itself. Bob Lung (author of the Consistency Guide) joins the DOM crew to look past the film and discuss how these running backs have produced. On-field talent is a constant debate, but the results speak for themselves. Bob’s analysis gives us an idea of who we should be targeting in our drafts based on usage allowing us to avoid ADP traps and investing in poor offensive situations. The numbers are there, but Bob’s done the heavy lifting in sorting through the noise to find what’s relevant.

    Topics Discussed:

    • What is consistency
    • Running back situations
      • San Francisco
      • Los Angeles Rams
    • Film/Consistency Discussion
      • Rashaad Penny
      • David Johnson
      • James White
