Episode Summary: Welcome to The No Cap Health Show, a weekly podcast where Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler uses his decades of experience in medicine and ability as an expert researcher to provide a light-hearted approach and share health trends popular on TikTok. In this episode, Dr. Brian provides his Cap/No Cap analysis on today’s TikTok video which poses questions centered on how to appear taller or shorter. Can the size of the bag you carry or the color of your shoes really make you look taller? Does posture impact how tall or short you appear? Find out in today’s episode. If you’re enjoying the show, we’d love it if you leave the show a Rating & Review at RateThisPodcast.com/NoCap. Episode Sponsor RevitalVision - https://www.revitalvision.com/ Key Takeaways 02:06 – Dr. Brian opens the show by thanking today’s sponsor, RevitalVision 02:46 – Dr. Brian introduces today’s topic, How to Appear Taller or Shorter 04:18 – White shoes vs. dark shoes, which ones make you appear taller? 04:50 – What can women do to appear taller? 07:50 – What can men do to appear taller? 09:16 – Can posture impact how tall or short you appear? 09:57 – What can be done to appear shorter? 11:19 – Dr. Brian teases the exciting topic of next week’s episode 12:02 – Dr. Brian encourages listeners to reach out and Rate and Review this podcast on RateThisPodcast.com/NoCap. Tweetable Quotes “White shoes do make people look taller. And, particularly for women, the color nude for shoes or high heels gives a natural extension of appearance to the legs because it’s matching the same color.” (04:26) (Dr. Brian) “Another tip to give that optical illusion of looking taller is wearing a short jacket. A tiny jacket where the waist comes up high on the jacket also extends the appearance of the legs and mid-section and makes the upper body look smaller. Again, you’re playing with the optics here.” (06:24) (Dr. Brian) “Now let’s talk about bags, purses, backpacks, etc. Can that have an effect on how you appear? Turns out it does. Wearing a smaller bag will make you appear taller. On the flip side, carrying a big bag will make you appear shorter.” (07:30) (Dr. Brian) “Here’s another one for guys, wearing more fitted clothes – so avoiding baggy shirts and pants – that can make you look taller.” (08:39) (Dr. Brian) “If you roll your shoulders back a little bit, drop your shoulder blades and stick your chest out a little bit, you’re getting better posture. You’re elongating your spine and you’re gonna actually get a little taller – not just in appearance but really taller – because you’re using your anatomy to your advantage.” (09:33) (Dr. Brian) Links Mentioned Dr. Brian’s Website Dr. Brian’s TikTok Dr. Brian’s Instagram Please remember, Dr. Brian is a doctor, but he is not your doctor. Tweetable Quotes “Since we’re talking about jaw techniques, it would be oh so rude of me to not mention Gua Sha. Our old friend Gua Sha, you know the jade stone we see all over TikTok” (05:51) (Dr. Brian) “Now in full disclosure, I actually do have a jaw like a model – a foot model, but nonetheless, a type of model technically. The Gua Sha just moves fluid around. I mean, you could literally do that with stones you find on the street. If you just move that fluid back and forth, you’re gonna have a temporary effect.” (06:35) (Dr. Brian) “Weight lifting significantly adds to the metabolism and the caloric burn of the body. I know that personally because when I lift weights, I get so much hungrier after doing a weight lifting session than after a cardio session.” (08:27) (Dr. Brian) “When you eat a nice meal, there’s a substance in your GI tract that gets secreted that helps dissolve the fat in your meal. And this is called bile.” (10:51) (Dr. Brian) “In children and teenagers, the way one is breathing can change their facial structure. This is not Cap; this has been proven. When children and teenagers tend to breath more through their mouth, it does cause the face to become more elongated and thin.” (13:27) (Dr. Brian) “Mewing does not make a permanent, better jawline. It’s only temporary, and you canlots of fun practicing in the mirror.” (14:33) (Dr. Brian) Links Mentioned Dr. Brian’s Website Dr. Brian’s TikTok Dr. Brian’s Instagram Please remember, Dr. Brian is a doctor, but he is not your doctor. Tweetable Quotes “Everything where I grew up was small. So it was a small village, small school, just a small community. So going from that to America where everything’s just so much more fast paced and larger, it was crazy.” (05:30) (Dr. Fayez) “You can think of it this way. Either A. We are the last simulation in that sort of simulation deep hole. We’re the last simulation because we haven’t created a simulation ourselves. Or, we are the first real universe because we haven’t created any simulations. It’s so confusing. I can’t even wrap my mind around it.” (12:21) (Dr. Fayez) “The thing about conspiracy theories is that they’re conspiracy theories. Because, the probability of a conspiracy theory being valid and nobody spilling the beans on it or being a whistle-blower is so micro-small you would need an electron microscope to look at the probability of that happening.” (14:26) (Dr. Brian) “I think it’s definitely the unknown that certainly interests people, whether they are believers in conspiracy theories or not.” (20:27) (Dr. Fayez) Links Mentioned Dr. Brian’s Website Dr. Brian’s TikTok Dr. Brian’s Instagram Dr. Fayez’s TikTok Dr. Fayez’s YouTube Dr. Fayez’s Instagram Please remember, Dr. Brian is a doctor, but he is not your doctor. And then the other thing is, of course, fitness. It’s really important to just do both in moderation.” (12:31) (Susan) “I think it is important to have dynamic movements for your warm-up because that will actually get your body warmed up. And there’s a reason people get into a ‘food coma’ at Thanksgiving, because turkey has a lot of tryptophan.” (09:02) (Dr. Brian) “So, I’m gonna tell you something that’s a very sobering reason to not make your bed. Do I have your attention now? There are these little critters called dust mites and they live better when your sheets are on your bed than when they are off. And the reason is because when your bed sheets are on it locks in moisture.” (12:03) (Dr. Brian) “How can dinner help you sleep or actually even hinder your sleep? Well, studies have shown that a high carb and low fat meal can actually worsen sleep versus a low carb, high fat meal.” (13:20) (Dr. Brian) “A warm bedroom is nice and cozy, I admit. Tweetable Quotes “There’s other ways to be able to help sleep better and we’re gonna talk about that in just a moment. But, alas, first let us pose the question, ‘Why is sleep even important?’ I mean sleep was so last year. It’s really not important anymore. Well, I’m kidding. Of course it’s really important. And there’s so many health benefits on so many levels.” (05:30) (Dr. Brian) “Let’s talk about two really good reasons that we need proper sleep. Number one is sleep keeps us mentally sharp. It’s really important for our brain and also helps with memory. Number two, lack of sleep increases the risk, in adults, of heart attacks and strokes.” (07:05) (Dr. Brian) “Caffeine’s in lots of things besides just coffee and tea; it’s in chocolate, sodas, energy drinks. And it can keep you up. So, when people are particularly sensitive to caffeine then even caffeine at noon can have an effect at nighttime.” (09:46) (Dr. Brian) “Most people sleep either belly or on their side. And, the issue with sleeping on your belly is that it causes your head to turn, and it can increase neck and back pain. Certainly that can interfere with getting a good night’s sleep.” (16:59) (Dr. Brian) “Snoring can also be associated with sleep apnea, which is where the breathing is effected to the point that there’s reduced oxygen. And that can really interfere with sleep.” (18:21) (Dr. Brian) “Washing your sheets can help you sleep better. Yes, that’s true and it’s been studied. Plus, doesn’t it just feel so good when you put on your PJs and you slip into that nice, freshly washed pair of sheets in your bed?” (20:20) (Dr. Brian) Links Mentioned Dr. Brian’s Website Dr. Brian’s TikTok Dr. Brian’s Instagram Please remember, Dr. Brian is a doctor, but he is not your doctor. Tweetable Quotes “There’s not one shred of proof that’s ever indicated that it [Ashwagandha] does help the eggplant jump up or get bigger, etc.” (05:01) (Dr. Brian) “Studies have shown that Ashwagandha can improve memory. It can reduce stress by having an effect on cortisol reduction, which is a stress hormone. And there’s even some evidence that it might even improve depression.” (05:43) (Dr. Brian) “They have published studies ‘proving’ that fapping caused all these problems in teenage boys. Like it increased the risk of them getting psychiatric problems and heart disease and heart attacks. And it turned out that this is all completely Cap. There’s no data to actually support that with modern studies. I think this is an example that people have their personal biases and sometimes they want to project it onto the world around them.” (08:50) (Dr. Brian) “Ashwagandha can also change the body’s composition. And what I mean by that is it can increase muscle mass and strength. And, specifically when people are weight lifting, it can reduce the muscle damage from weight lifting.” (11:26) (Dr. Brian) “Ashwagandha won’t help grow your eggplant. But, it can increase testosterone and muscle strength as well as exercise performance.” (13:54) (Dr. Brian) Links Mentioned Dr. Brian’s Website Dr. Brian’s TikTok Dr. Brian’s Instagram Please remember, Dr. Brian is a doctor, but he is not your doctor.
