    Don’t Cut Your Own Bangs

Don’t Cut Your Own Bangs is a cozy corner of the internet for high-functioning humans with big feelings — the capable ones who get things done but quietly wonder if something’s missing.
If you’re the unicorn in a power suit (or a perfectly neutral sweater), building a life that looks “right” on paper but still craving something freer and more alive — you’re in the right place.

Hosted by therapist and author Danielle Ireland, this show feels like sitting on the couch with your best friend — if your best friend happened to be a therapist. Together, we untangle burnout, anxiety, pressure, and comparison, and learn how to turn emotions into allies instead of obstacles.

This is a space for comfort, community, clarity — and a few laughs along the way.
Because you deserve calm without having to earn it.

Changing our relationship with change series - Pt. 1 Mar 08, 2021
    Show notes

What ACTUALLY leads to change? It's usually one of two things:⁣ ⁣ Discomfort⁣ or⁣ Desire⁣ ⁣ "I'm in pain, and I want out."⁣ "I'm frustrated, and I want to feel better."⁣ "I'm bored, and I want to feel inspired."⁣ ⁣ Knowing what the catalyst is for you can be powerful exercise AND can help you stay on track. ⁣

When we're ready for change there are 3 things we often feel, say, or do:⁣ ⁣ We feel - Frustrated, Tired, Anxious⁣ We say - "Ugh!", "This has to stop.", "This sucks!"⁣ We do - Hit snooze, avoid, procrastinate⁣

Join me for the next 4 weeks as we explore our relationship with change, and hopefully learn to love it.

    Enjoy!

Going ALL in. Danielle x Kate Kennett Jan 27, 2021
    Show notes

Meet Kate Kennett - coach, mother, teacher, friend, and fellow whale lover. She's worn a lot of hats in her professional life, but one of things I love most about her story, and this interview, is how she's approached change head-on and with humility. ⁣

Her experiences have taught her the value in saying "Yes" - even when you don't feel ready, and how to learn from every mistake. More importantly, she wants to help you do the same. ⁣

One of my favorite takeaways from this episode - "Ask yourself why, until there's no more why left."⁣

⁣Sit back, relax, and get ready for some BIG belly laughs. ⁣

    ⁣Enjoy!

Raised in a cult. Finding truth and freedom. Danielle x Alesia Galati from Two Sisters and a Cult Podcast Nov 13, 2020
    Show notes

Professional podcast manager and co-host of Two Sisters and a Cult, Alesia Galati and I explore questions like:

    • How do I know what are my original thoughts vs my training?
    • What do I really want my life to look like?
    • What does it mean when the people our lives don't agree?

We relate on a shared sentiment of being in our mid 20's, looking around at our lives and asking, "Who's life am I really living?"

We also explore the impact of someone you admire confirming the worst fear you have about yourself and how this affects behavior, "This must be true. It's the thing I've been afraid to admit to myself and they see it too."

We also talk about the differences between being led to follow our own instincts vs following someone else's. Similarities between how cult leaders lead and current coaching and marketing strategies.

The core lesson we come back to over and over again - at the end of the day the person who's trust you must keep is your own.

    Enjoy!

My boo David Dellen is back and we're talking about our journey over the last two years with all things:⁣ 💚Baby's ⁣ 💚Fertility⁣ 💚Parenting (in theory)⁣ ⁣ In this episode we laugh at each other, and ourselves, A LOT as we explore our "best guesses" with what it means to become parents, how we hope to be, and the thoughts that keep us up tonight. ⁣ ⁣ I know I may be bias, but he's my favorite person. And together, we're making a person. So, yeah… this episode was pretty fun. ⁣

A FBI negotiators take on connection, communication, and trust. Danielle X Gary Noesner, Jul 28, 2020
    Show notes

Meet Gary Noesner - author, instructor, investigator, and FBI negotiator.

Gary served as the lead hostage negotiator during the first 25 days of the 51 day siege in Waco TX. His book Stalling for Time, My life as an FBI Hostage Negotiator became the framework with the Netflix mini-series WACO.

In his words, "I've talked about WACO more in the past couple months than in my entire career, but if you don't know history you're destined to repeat it."

We explore what it feels like to be negotiating relationships from every angle in crisis situations, and how the lessons from these experiences can apply to everyday life.

There were so many great parts of this conversation, but my favorite takeaway is this: The best answer you can give is the most truthful - even if it's, "I don't know."

How do you know when you're on the path to healing? Jun 24, 2020
    Show notes

Today's episode is all about healing. Specifically as it relates to -

    • emotional healing
    • emotional recovery
    • emotional work

About a week ago a client that I'd been working with for about 5 months asked me, "How do you know when you're done?"

We explored the question for a little while, and what became clear was that she wanted to know - "...when I've healed what I need to heal, and how do I really know when I've made progress?"

The short answer is that the less activated a painful emotion is in you - anger, grief, worry, sadness, frustration, etc. - indicates how healed a memory, experience, or relationship is within you.

I this episode I explore the language we use to identify where healing work is needed.

For example - Feeling activated vs Triggered

I also dig into a recent experience in my life where I had some healing work to do and how I navigated that process.

I hope you enjoy listening to this week's episode as much I enjoyed making it.

    Enjoy!

A hair stylist and therapist talk BIG dreams and bad haircuts. Danielle x Corey Sleet. May 20, 2020
    Show notes

Owner of Lux Lab Hair and Body, Corey Sleet joins me on this episode to talk about his journey as a kid from Gary, IN working side jobs to buy Air Jordans, to becoming one of the leading professionals in his field.

I first sat in his chair over 7yrs ago, and what I appreciate most about Corey is his unique blend of humor, honesty, and professionalism.

Today he's fully in his element, with a consistent waitlist of clients, traveling all over the country applying color, and inspiring clients to take a selfie with their fresh new do.

In this episode we talk about

    • what it means to have a vision for your future
    • what happens when doubt sets in
    • setting a goal anyway
    • making a dream a reality

    Enjoy!
