Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 217 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A very welcome return to the DPP this episode as Pip is joined by past guest and good friend (and major league superstar, of course) Mr Simon Pegg!

As the two get down to business with their ‘difficult second album’ podcast, you will hear what Simon’s been up to since the last time they spoke - which is an incredible amount, it turns out - and get the full rundown of his whole Star Wars experience, Star Trek, working with Tom Cruise and watching him risk life and limb on set for the cause, how most films can be fan fiction but with an official stamp, his crazy filmography which is perpetually expanding, finding the work that you love and how to ride the ebbs and flows within, how process is more important than the product, the beauty of emoticons in modern communication, connecting with his family in unique ways while while filming, nurturing talent with his own production company and the pure spectacle of cinema. It’s a big one, people - you’re gonna enjoy it, it’s awesome. BEGIN IMMEDIATELY!

Stephen Graham, Neil Fitzmaurice & Dan Cadan - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #214 Jul 03, 2018

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 214 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! Ladies and gentlemen, this right here is the official four person ‘Walk Like A Panther’ reunion featuring STEPHEN GRAHAM (aka ‘Mark Bolton’), NEIL FITZMAURICE (aka ‘Cliff ‘Edge’ Morris’), DAN CADAN (the writer and director) and - for credit’s sake - SCROOBIUS PIP (aka ‘Terry’)!

This is far from a casual bro-down with four mates getting along famously - it’s a proper acting masterclass, as the crew deliver gem after gem on the acting process and their method. Of course you have the molten core of Walk Like A Panther nuggets right there in the middle - let’s not forget that, as they are many and varied - but the tangents, the stories, and the wisdom all coat that core deliciously and provide a lovely, friendly and caring roundtable chat in Stephen’s garden. Which explains the birdsong ambience in the background. So enjoy, as you hear about acting with heroes and how to get around confidence dips or getting in one’s own head, taking risks, what it means to have other actors looking out for you, the pride of Liverpool natives doing good things as it wasn’t always easy back in the day to struggle through, and overall just absorb the inspiring communal-minded chat - who better to represent a film which is, at its heart, loving and communal in spirit. The perfect follow on episode after speaking to Kate Nash last week about 'Glow'.

Oh - and naturally - BUY ‘WALK LIKE A PANTHER’ at your nearest convenience, eh!

From her debut album ‘Made Of Bricks’ which was released in 2007, she’s been on a proper ride, touring and releasing music all the while but also rekindling one of her first loves, her acting skills, which finds her now starring in one of Netflix’s many success stories ‘Glow’! Jamie Demetriou - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #212 Jun 19, 2018

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 212 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A grand episode right here as Pip is joined by comedian and actor from the UK via Greece, Jamie Demetriou!

You’re going to be seeing a LOT more of Jamie over the next month or two as he’s about to unveil his new series ‘Stath Lets Flats’, which is part of Channel 4’s ‘Comedy Blaps’ vehicle - in the meantime, enjoy this proper get together with Pip and Jamie, as the two cover a ton of ground in the cosy but apparently humid Acast studios to discuss the use of the not often utilised Greek accent in comedy, working on a small scale as a jumping board for larger scale work, the fact that he’s “Always done idiots”, working with and promoting his comedian sister, the heightened but committed character, reactions to comedy within the actual scenes, improv and the importance of casting, the insanity and craziness of the Edinburgh Fringe, the idea of ‘anti-comedy’, and it’s important to point out that while this episode features reference to David Earl throughout, the podcast is not sponsored nor overseen by him. But check him out whenever you can, of course. He’s awesome. So’s Jamie. Enjoy!

Headway special w/ Natalie Clapshaw - Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #211 Jun 12, 2018

Show notes

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 211 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! This week brings you a very special episode for your enjoyment, as Pip is joined by Natalie Clapshaw of the Headway brain injury association.

As with previous episodes of Distraction Pieces where Pip speaks to organisations and charities, this will reveal a HUGE amount of behind the scenes information and facts, so prepare to learn a ton about Headway! There could be a chance you know about Headway already, and perhaps have even had experience of their care and work already, but for the uninitiated this will be a perfect way of finding out more about not only the work they do, but the people involved, the mission statement, the knock on effects, and also the unseen complexities that can swamp those dealing with brain injury. If it’s a world you are unfamiliar with, these are issues that may not have entered your consciousness before so it’s a fascinating and deeply interesting way of finding out more about the day to day work of Headway, the worlds of those who benefit from their work, and also the very human side of dealing with the effects of such injury. It’s certainly not all doom and gloom, and Natalie’s positive, uplifting attitude and forward thinking displays this clearly and relentlessly! Please do check their website for more links and info, and share the numbers and contact details with anyone you feel would benefit or be interested. They’re doing amazing work out there…
