Thursday NBA Value Plays for FanDuel and DraftKings - 1/26/17 Jan 26, 2017

DFSR’s Doug Norrie runs an NBA solo pod today of the four-game Thursday slate of games. First he looks back at some of the injury concerns from last night with guys like Anthony Davis and Hassan Whiteside both exiting early and crushing some lineups. He then goes into the Dallas injury issues for today with Dirk Nowitzki, Wes Matthews and Deron Williams already ruled out. That opens the door for Seth Curry, Harrison Barnes and possibly Pierre Jackson logging heavy minutes. Really all of the healthy Mavs are in play to some extent. Other talk includes paying up for Westbrook, and how to evaluate the minutes for guys like Nikola Jokic and the rest of the Nuggets’ team. Then at the 27:30 mark Chris Durell jumps on the line to talk tonight’s huge slate of NHL action right before the All-Star Break. They discuss basic NHL strategy as well as some goalies, stacks and players you can keep an eye out for tonight.

The DFSR crew takes a long look at a shorter Tuesday NBA slate. There are some relevant injury issues to get out of the way early. Demar Derozan and Joel Embiid are out tonight which has cascading effects down the Raptors’ and Clippers’ rosters. They talk about Kyle Lowry, Norman Powell, Jahlil Okafor and Ersan Ilyasova. They also discuss the Bulls’ situation with Jimmy Butler and Dwayne Wade and how they line up against the Magic. Speaking of the Magic, the guys discuss Elfrid Payton and Aaron Gordon. And finally they breakdown some of the pricing inefficiencies between DraftKings and FanDuel. Two examples are John Wall and Nikola Jokic.

The DFSR crew of James Davis and Doug Norrie talk a five game slate of NBA action. This one is a tricky one with two of the five games coming in as potential blowouts. Both the Cavs and Spurs opened at -12.5 favorites over the Suns and Nuggets respectively. They discuss how Chris Paul’s injury opens up a ton of minutes for Austin Rivers and Raymond Felton at point guard. They also discuss Roddick and Jamal Crawford in that back court as well. Then they weight the safety in a guy like Carmelo Anthony coming off a bad night against the Celtics. The power forward and center positions look particularly thin with most of the big money and even value guys coming in with question marks.

Coming off a crazy holiday slate of Monday basketball, things look to stabilize a bit in the NBA tonight as we get back to our normal main slate start times. The guys talk about how the Nets are playing tonight which likely means once again loading up on Raptors like Kyle Lowry, Demar Derozan and Demarre Carroll. They also discuss the Nuggets’ situation at length with Gary Harris likely out tonight. They could free up a lot of minutes for Emmanuel Mudiay and Jameer Nelson. But there’s also the potential minutes for Kenneth Faried and Nikola Jokic, both of whom played last night. And finally they discuss bigger money options like James Harden and Hassan Whiteside.

DFSR Crew of James Davis and Doug Norrie break down a nine game NBA slate for FanDuel and DraftKings. They start by how sites are changing/ adjusting pricing based on matchups and that’s a definite consideration today. James Harden’s seen a definitive price decrease tonight facing the Grizzlies. Then there’s Russell Westbrook whose price is going in the opposite direction facing the Timberwolves. They also discuss how no Avery Bradley will again effect the usage rates of Marcus Smart and Isaiah Thomas. Small forward and power forward are particular issues today with only really Lebron James and Kevin Love jumping out at the upper end of value. After those two guys the pickings get really slim. And finally they discuss Joel Embiid and how safe we can feel on his price considering the minutes’ restrictions.

They start at point guard where John Wall, Marcus Smart and Dennis Schroder lead the charge. Then they discuss the Bulls’ situation with both Wade and Butler sitting out tonight. That opens the door for guys like Doug McDermott and Nikola Mitotic to possibly spike in usage rates. They also break down the value at small forward, power forward and center. There’s a ton to get into here with the premiere matchup of Russell Westbrook vs. James Harden highlighting the night. That is where most people will want to go with their lineups, but as the guys discuss, there’s a ton of mid tier value cropping up tonight. Guys like Jeff Teague, Kemba Walker, Jrue Holiday, CJ McCollum and Paul George all come in with fantastic matchups and could be a way to create different lineups that fade the big boys. They also talk a decent power forward position with Paul Millsap, Julius Randle and Thad Young. And finally, they end things by arguing over Montreal Harrell and Myles Turner’s ownership percentages.

DFSR crew of James Davis and Doug Norrie talk a Tuesday slate of basketball. At first blush, this one looks weird with eight of the slowest nine teams in basketball taking the court. We don’t love that in DFS because it means a significant pace down situation for about half of the slate. But there is some potentially interesting value cropping up here. First off we have TJ McConnell and TJ Warren looking to see big minutes’ bumps on reduced salaries. Then you get guys like Wilson Chandler and Nikola Jokic who offer upside though they do come with risk. And then the guys discuss Demarcus Cousins as the top big money option and likely the chalk play on the slate.
