    Dennis & Julie

Dennis Prager and Julie Hartman explore all aspects of life, in particular the crisis of American education. Julie was a student senior at Harvard who sensed that most of her life she was exposed to one perspective. She found Dennis Prager’s book “Still the Best Hope,” and she realized she actually held many conservative beliefs. She reached out to Dennis and that was the beginning of a new partnership that culminates in their weekly podcast.

    Show notes

What do you do with the hand you are dealt? Free will and self-control can coexist. Fame is fleeting but a great majority seek it. Habits can change your nature… good or bad. Do women need maternal figures like men need paternal figures? Topics include: men versus women with respect to insecurities about their looks; It is difficult to be human whether you are a man or woman; suicide rates in men versus women; being reflective versus being self-critical.

Dennis & Julie: Getting High on Life Feb 13, 2023
    Show notes

Dennis and Julie delve into when Dennis’ son was getting sober… his greatest fear was that he wouldn’t be able to have fun sober. What comes to us naturally is assumed that it comes to everyone naturally. Hobbies are sober fun. Has social media caused a lack of non-digital hobbies in younger generations… is it the amount of homework, or the lack there of? Is the “deadening” of younger generations because of marijuana… is it because of the shift in society towards secularism away from religion? Friends can be a great source of sober fun… do you have “close” friends? Men are more likely to abuse illicit drugs or alcohol than women. Men are messy. Is working with men better than working with women?

Dennis & Julie: Leading vs Control Feb 06, 2023
    Show notes

Dennis and Julie delve into women and their looks. Both sexes have their battles… for women one of the battles is their looks. Why is the swimsuit competition in the Miss America pageant bad? What percentage of good-looking women think that they are good-looking? Why do women think that men want a thin woman? When a woman thinks she is not thin enough, is it for other women… or for men? Women judge one another harshly in silence… is it innate or societally induced? Money is to men what looks are to women. Men were more in control of their sexuality in a patriarchal society. It’s paradoxical, but Feminism has made men bolder about sex, not less. Men who are overly sexual are a turn off. Men know that women are not men, women don’t know men are not women. Healthy couples should make love outside the bedroom and have sex inside the bedroom. It’s important for Dennis and Julie to be real on the show. The assumption today is that if you are in the public, you aren’t being real. Is that true?

Dennis & Julie: The Easy Way Out Jan 23, 2023
    Show notes

Dennis and Julie delve into the fact that most things in life require hard work. What Dennis said that moved Julie’s mother… parents taking credit and blame when it comes to how children turn out. Rabbi Saks – God keeps the answer secret …otherwise we wouldn’t fight to improve it. God created doubt. Is not believing in God a luxury? Never take the easy way out… it doesn’t exist… it’s trap! Dennis says… we’re all not special… but he does believe everyone has a gift. Do you have a gift that you don’t utilize? Socrates – the unexamined life is not worth living. One of your biggest goals in life should be… to be an easy person. Train yourself to react to situations more calmly. At what age does one begin to think about mortality? Martin Luther was a crucial figure in developing western civilization and doesn’t get the acknowledgement. If you don’t how bad it WAS… then you don’t know how good it IS! Dennis has learned to not reflect on the unanswerable.

Dennis & Julie: Epic Fails Jan 16, 2023
    Show notes

Dennis and Julie delve into failure and losing. An investigation has been launched into top-ranked high schools accused of withholding student's national merit awards. How has Julie dealt with success; does she know failure? Life is tough …you should not be raised in a cocoon. Has Dennis ever failed? What does it mean to be successful? Life is complicated and two things can be true at once. “Splitting” is the failure in a person's thinking to bring together the dichotomy of both perceived positive and negative qualities of something into a cohesive, realistic whole. The Left reduces everything to absolutes… it’s childish. Dennis recalls his first job for the Israeli government. “The only happy people I know are people I don’t know” – Helen Telushkin, and the origin of “happy as a clam.”

    Dennis & Julie: You’re So Vain Jan 02, 2023
    Show notes

Dennis and Julie delve into vanity. Is vanity reserved for appearance, or does it apply to more? Where is the line drawn between caring about your appearance and being vain… is it generational? Both Dennis and Julie agree that providing intellectual ammunition to their listeners is their objective. Dennis recalls Max Prager’s words of wisdom. When did the phenomenon of torn jeans become popular? Is dressing up dead? Do you dress up for church… does God care… what about sporting events and airline travel? “Splitting,” also called black-and-white thinking or all-or-nothing thinking, is the failure in a person's thinking to bring together the dichotomy of both perceived positive and negative qualities of something into a cohesive, realistic whole. John 14: 6 – “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Dennis & Julie: People Get Themselves Dec 26, 2022
    Show notes

Dennis and Julie delve into fake outrage. Why has circumstance become more important than values? Do Julie and Dennis differ on people that think they are good versus actual good people? We should be values based… not politics based. The Left’s meanness outweighs the Right’s. They discuss liking Trump versus liking Biden. It's oncologist not ophthalmologist. When will the guilt kick in for shunning family members over politics? Dennis has observed that in this life evil isn’t punished… foolish decisions are. Having a strong conscience matters. Most people have weak consciences… and furthermore without God what good is a conscience? Dennis recalls the two times he’s asked God for something. What God wants from you is infinitely more consequential than what you want from God. Do you know someone suffering from P.T.S.D. - Post Traumatic Santa Disorder… holly jolly and optimistic, Santa is needed more now than ever.
