    DawgmanRadio: UW/UCLA Pregame Podcast Oct 16, 2021
    Show notes

As Washington prepares to take on UCLA later today, there are a lot of questions as the Huskies prepare for the final seven weeks of the football season. Head coach Jimmy Lake and his staff have said this is the most healthy their team has been all season. What impact will that have on the game?

Can the Huskies, who are allowing almost 150 yards per game on the ground, stop a very good ground game for the Bruins that features a one-two punch in Brittan Brown and Zach Charbonnet? What impact will Washington's defensive line, led by Sam Taimani, Faatui Tuitele and Tuli Letuligasenoa, have on this game?

Is Dylan Morris ready to play his best game of the season so far? If he doesn't, it could spell trouble for the Husky offense as UCLA's defensive line is allowing less than 93 yards per game on the ground.

The guys from Dawgman -- Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund -- sit down and discuss each one of these topics and touch on recruiting as well as what happened earlier this week at the Pac 12 basketball media day.

DawgmanRadio: The interns preview the UCLA game Oct 15, 2021
    Show notes

The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - break down what they've seen from the UCLA Bruins so far this season and how they match up against the Washington Huskies going into Saturday night's game at Husky Stadium.

What to make of the Bruins? They've certainly been a bit of a contradiction in 2021. They had an early win over LSU that was a huge feather in the cap for the Pac-12 Conference. But then they lost to Fresno State and former UW quarterback Jake Haener. They bounced back with a strong win at Stanford, but then lost by nearly 20 at home to Arizona State.

Jack and Luke break the UCLA offense down, starting with veteran quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. They also have one of the top run games in the conference, led by Zach Charbonnet and Brittain Brown. And when DTR doesn't hand it off or tuck it and run it himself, he's got a couple of capable pass-catchers in Kyle Philips and Greg Dulcich.

How will the Huskies try and slow down UCLA's potent offense? How will they contain DTR? Jack and Luke give their thoughts on what UW may do to force the issue, including some breaking news on the potential return of a UW defender?

On the defensive side of the ball, the guys talk about some of the UCLA names to watch, like former UW commit Ale Kaho and Bo Calvert, brother of former UW linebacker Josh Calvert, who is now at Utah, as well as DB Qwuantrezz Knight. Luke throws down the stats to see where the Huskies might be able to attack a Bruins defense that has given up yards and points on a fairly consistent basis in 2021.

And lastly, Jack and Luke throw out their confidence levels for a Washington win.

Jimmy Lake says the UCLA game is as healthy as Washington will have been in 2021 Oct 14, 2021
    Show notes

Jimmy Lake met with the media one last time before the UCLA game on Saturday evening and reiterated his belief that the bye week came at the right time to get his team healed up. And that includes his coaches. Derham Cato was injured on the sidelines two weeks ago at Oregon State and is still a little dinged up but will be coaching this weekend. Same with UW Defensive Coordinator Bob Gregory, who has been dealing with an unspecified, non-COVID-related illness.

But he stopped short of confirming whether or not Zion Tupuola-Fetui would be available against the Bruins.

DawgmanRadio: Hop, Bey, Roberts talk during Pac-12 Media Day Oct 13, 2021
    Show notes

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds was in San Francisco Wednesday to talk to Mike Hopkins, Jamal Bey, and Nate Roberts during Pac-12 Media Day for men's basketball. In exclusive interviews with all three while on the rooftop of the Pac-12 Networks building, Kim talks to them about what went wrong last year, what's improved since then, revamping the lineup and coaching staff, and what the expectations are for the 2021-22 season.

Sam Taimani Expects To Play Up To Standards Of Those Who Came Before Him Oct 13, 2021
    Show notes

On if the Oregon State game was his best game as a Husky... That's the standard I want to live by. I expect to play that way every week. Definitely a good game for me, but something to build off of and not just rest on it.

On what has made the difference for him... Getting my technique down, being smarter. Getting stronger. This is only my fourth season of playing D-line, so I've learned a lot of things that have helped me along the way.

On shutting down UCLA and playing up to expectations... My motivation is to hold up the standard that Greg Gaines, Vita Vea, Levi Onwuzurike have set here. We expect to play better and that's what we're tyring to do.

On playing mobile QBs... This week we have a really good QB. He likes to run and take advantage of space. We need to play disciplined football and stay in our lanes.

On how the losses have impacted the team so far... We know who we are. The coaches push us. The energy is high and we can't let that get us down. Still a lot of football to be played and a lot of things to play for. We have the energy going and we are practicing well.

On players bringing energy and which ones do that best... Brendan Radley-Hiles brings the energy, shows how tough we are; Edefuan Ulofoshio is a beast. He's always bringing the energy; Trent McDuffie is a beast too. So explosive and a leader.

On Ulofoshio... Always happy, always lots of energy. His tone doesn't change. He's got a lot of juice.

On where his nickname "Taki" comes from... My grandpa called me that when I was a little guy and it just stuck.

On Jordan Lolohea and his relationship with him... We're from the same area, super close, good friends, took some time off from football, so when he got here, I helped him understand what he needed to do and that it will get hard here, but you stick with it and you'll have success.

Keeping Mind Right Is Key For Asa Turner Oct 13, 2021
    Show notes

On his mindset throughout his time on campus... I just try to keep my mind right. We compete. I just keep my head down and try to do my best.

On things he wants to do better... Tackling. There's lots of things, but tackling is the biggest thing. Getting down the finer points and details are important too.

On his thought process when he sees the ball in the air... The Oregon State pick was on my second play of the game and against BYU (in 2019) it was up in the air and I just went up and got it. I don't really think out there when the ball is in the air.

On his wide receiver skills and why he chose defense... There were only a few schools who offered me as a receiver. When I was going through the recruiting process, that helped me narrow things down because I wanted to play DB. I didn't decide until my senior year where I wanted to play in college, but I love playing DB.

On Dorian Thompson-Robinson being mobile... This is the best we've practiced all season. We've faced athletic quarterbacks, so it's nothing new for us, but he's a good quarterback and we're getting prepared.

On the bye week... Looking forward to this game no matter what. I don't think the players really needed a bye, but it's allowed us to get things down and we've practiced really well.

On the throwback jerseys... I actually haven't seen them in person yet, only on Instagram, but I'm excited about getting to wear them.

AUDIO: Jimmy Lake talks ZTF, Bye Week, UCLA, Recruiting, and more Oct 11, 2021
    Show notes

On Monday, Washington Head Coach Jimmy Lake spoke with the UW media as the Huskies got back to business after the bye week. The team is preparing for UCLA and will be wearing 1991 National Championship throwbacks for the game.

Lake spoke on a number of subjects, including UCLA, the return of Zion Tupuola-Fetui to practice, the work behind the scenes during the bye week, going out to recruit for the first time in 16 months, and a lot more.

DawgmanRadio: Sizing Up UW Hoops with Aaron Beach Oct 09, 2021
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Aaron Beach - take time out during this football BYE week to gear up for some hoops talk, specifically previewing the men's basketball team.

What can UW fans expect from the team this season, especially with how poorly they played last year? They were 5-21, including 4-16 in the conference. Gone are Marcus Tsohonis, Nate Pryor, Erik Stevenson, Hameir Wright, Raequan Battle, J'Raan Brooks, and Quade Green.

Fetters and Beach first talk about Mike Hopkins and what he did in the offseason to put the Huskies in a position to taste success. He made some big moves within his coaching staff, as Cameron Dollar and Dave Rice left and Wyking Jones and Quincy Pondexter took their place alongside Hopkins and Will Conroy.

Then they talk about the huge roster revamp, starting with the backcourt. Terrell Brown, Daejon Davis, and P.J. Fuller take over for Green, Tsohonis, and Stevenson.

Talk then turns to the wings, with some discussion on Jamal Bey, Emmitt Matthews, Cole Bajema, and Samuel Ariyibi.

After a quick break to pay some bills, Fetters and Beach finish up their roster revamp preview by talking about the bigs, the men in the middle that will be counted on to protect the rim and start the transition. They have a number of options, with Nate Roberts, Riley Sorn, Langston Wilson, Jackson Grant.

And how will this revamped lineup fare in the Pac-12? In Beach's opinion, how many wins is this team capable of? And could they stun the league and get to 20 wins?

DawgmanRadio: Some Husky History Part 3 Oct 08, 2021
    Show notes

Over the past two days, Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund have recapped how the season countdown series morphed into a huge project for them. There was a lot of researching and talk amongst themselves about some of the names to focus on.

Today, they wrap up the series by talking about all of the jerseys from 49 all the way down to the number one that were donned by Husky greats. They discussed how some of the numbers lacked a large amount of names to write about, while others had so many names, they could have written a 4,000 word epic on the subject.

Some of the names discussed include Reggie Williams, Warren Moon, Jake Locker, Hugh Millen, Billy Joe Hobert, Donald Jones, Mario Bailey and many, many others.
