DawgmanRadio: Enjoy this win, UW fans...even if it's just for tonight Oct 31, 2021
    Show notes

If you heard the jubilation and emotion coming from Washington's locker room after their 20-13 comeback win at Stanford, you would expect Washington fans would be just as excited. And most are, but not everyone.

But that's another story for another time.

For tonight, the guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - focused on the things that went right Saturday night in Palo Alto, as the Road Dawgs secured their second come-from-behind road victory in as many weeks, and broke a string of losing six-straight games to the Cardinal at the Farm.

It's hard not to start with the breakout performances of Carson Bruener and Voi Tunuufi. Bruener, the son of former legendary UW tight end Mark Bruener, lapped the field with 15 tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and one key fumble recovered by Sav'ell Smalls that led to a Washington field goal. It was one of three turnovers forced by the Huskies that helped them win that particular battle within the larger war.

And Tunuufi, the true freshman defensive tackle from Salt Lake City, started the game like a house on fire, racking up two quick sacks on Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee, finishing the night with three tackles overall.

Their focus then turned to the run game, where Washington came one yard short from having two 100-yard rushers in the same game for the first time in five years. Cameron Davis had a career night in Palo Alto, finishing with 99 yards on 18 carries. Sean McGrew led the Huskies with 114 yards on 19 carries.

The guys finished with their final thoughts of the game and how the Huskies need to take their newfound confidence and momentum - as well as a two-game win streak - back with them to Seattle as they prepare to host Oregon on Saturday afternoon.

DawgmanRadio: Getting You Ready For Washington/Stanford Game Saturday Night Oct 30, 2021
    Show notes

Washington has five games remaining on their schedule and they need at least three wins in this contests to get bowl eligible. On Saturday, they travel to Stanford and a stadium in which they haven't tasted victory since 2007. For those trying to remember that far back, it was the first season that Jake Locker was the starter at quarterback for the Huskies.

Dawgman.com's Scott Eklund and Kim Grinolds sat down to preview the game, discussing the injury news that was dropped by head coach Jimmy Lake earlier this week -- Edefuan Ulofoshio and Richard Newton are gone for the year -- and what improvements, if any, the offensive line has seen with M.J. Ale back in the starting lineup.

They also talked about whether or not freshman quarterback Sam Huard, who played just one series last week against Arizona, would see the field more this week, especially if the Husky offense gets off to a slow start as well as several other subjects.

DawgmanRadio: The interns preview the Stanford game Oct 30, 2021
    Show notes

The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - break down what they've seen from the Stanford Cardinal so far this season and how they match up against the Washington Huskies going into Saturday night's game at Stanford Stadium.

Jack goes first and breaks down the Stanford offense, starting with quarterback Tanner McKee. He then moves to the Cardinal receivers and tight ends, who are some of the tallest as a complete group the Huskies will face all season long.

The Cardinal still pride themselves on being big and burly in the trenches, but the run game has been suspect. Both Jack and Luke take a stab at why Stanford hasn't been as strong in this area of the offense, and also talk about a way Stanford could still make some hay with their tailbacks. And how could UW hurt the Cardinal? They give their thoughts on that as well.

Moving to the defensive side of the ball, Luke throws out some numbers to think about, as well as the names to watch when looking at the Cardinal and who may give Washington some trouble. Dayln Wade-Perry, Thomas Booker, and Ryan Johnson are the big bodies up front. Levani Damuni is a linebacker to watch, and Kendall Williamson and Kyu Blu Kelly are the defensive backs to know.

To finish up the podcast, Jack and Luke talk about the areas where they think UW could do some damage against Stanford's defense, and also give their confidence levels when picking a UW win.

Jimmy Lake can't remember his Halloween costumes but is hoping to put a scare in Stanford Saturday night Oct 28, 2021
    Show notes

On Thursday, Washington Head Coach Jimmy Lake met with the press one final time before the Huskies (3-4) travel south to the Bay Area to face Stanford (3-4) Saturday night in Palo Alto. He took questions on some specific players coming back from injury, namely Zion Tupuola-Fetui and Jack Westover, as well as the outside linebackers and the cornerbacks gearing up to be tested by the Cardinal's bigger receivers. He was also asked about his past Halloween costumes.

    Show notes

Washington Assistant Defensive Backs Coach Terrence Brown, middle linebacker Jackson Sirmon, and outside linebacker Zion Tupuola-Fetui spoke to the media Wednesday before the Huskies leave for their second road trip in as many weeks. Peyton Henry Is Excited About Getting Back To Handling All Kicking duties Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

On being able to kickoff again... It's been great. lost some of my form, but it's back. I kicked off a lot in high school because we scored a lot of points, but here, I just had to focus on kicking for the most part, so now I just had to get back into the rhythm of doing it, but I'm feeling good.

On the mechanics of kicking off... It's not just about kicking it as far as you can. There's placement, there's hang-time, lots of different things. I've really enjoyed it though.

On his season so far... Great battery of guys. Lots of work on consistency. Making sure we're continuing to work hard and getting things done.

On how they decide when to kick and when to punt or go for it... They come to me before and during the game to see how things feel that day. It depends on where we're at, the distance, the weather, all of that stuff, but yeah, we talk throughout gameday about what I am feeling comfortable with.

Cameron Davis: Always Be Ready Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

On getting in late and picking up where the other left off... Coach Keith Bhonapha does a good job of keeping us ready and making sure our heads are in the game and when it's your turn to step in, you'd better be ready.

On needing more carries to get in a rhythm... For sure. I'd like to get more carries to get in a rhythm, but I've just got to be ready to play when I get in there. Every running back will tell you that, but

On the frustrations with the start of the season for the offense... Yeah, definitely haven't been happy with things, but we're getting better and we've still got a lot of work to do. We have played better every week and we just need to keep working at things.

On the recruiting process... Coach Bhonapha and coach Chris Petersen made it feel like family. It was a great experience from the start with them.

Scott Huff: Offensive Line Continues To Improve Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

On Troy Fautanu... I thought he did a pretty good job. When you lose a guy like Jaxson Kirkland, that's a bummer, but I felt he came in and played well and was happy that he had some success.

On M.J. Ale's improvement... Julius Buelow had a great fall camp and M.J. was dinged up, but as he's gotten more healthy, he's played a lot better and done a good job. Credit to Buelow for having a good camp and M.J. perservering through his injury and getting better.

On what Ale needs to improve on to become more dominant... Not one thing, but if I was focused on something, it would be processing things quicker. He's had some really good practices and I feel really good about his progress.

On the improvement of the group... I feel like they've really bought in to things. They are making strides. Luke Wattenberg has been playing at a really high level. He's the field general for us out there and he's doing really, really well.

On reasons for the lack of success in running the ball... We have run the ball into some tough looks (defensively) and we can play better, but we've improved a lot and are doing a better job.

On rotating at right tackle... We have two guys (Matteo Mele and Victor Curne) who are playing well and why not compete for that spot? I am sure they'd prefer to be taking all of the snaps, but I feel like competition makes us all better and why not compete when two guys are playing well?

On Henry Bainivalu's progress... Overall I feel like he's played really well. He needs to keep working and improving, but I feel like he's played well overall.

On the progress of some of the younger guys... You watch the scout team film and those guys are doing a really good job. Sam Peacock, Roger Rosengarten are doing great jobs. They are progressing. We have over 20 offensive linemen which is the deepest group we've ever had since I've been doing this for 19 years. Lots of depth and talent and they are all pretty young too.

On Stanford's front seven... They have guys who have been there since I got here six years ago. Some sixth year seniors. They have some big guys. Looking at the stat sheet, they have surrendered some big plays, but overall, they are pretty solid at stopping the run.
