Page and Jake's Takes: Family Vacation Rules May 02, 2019
    Show notes

Welcome to another round of Page and Jake’s Takes, where we offer super-extra-barely-mild opinions on parenting-related topics. Family vacations. Do those even exist? Or should they be called family trips? We've taken the kids to a million places, but can only recall one trip where they behaved from start to finish. The trip was to Utah in 2017, and it made us think that we had this parenting thing down. It was incredible. We laughed, we hiked, we ate real food. Then we went to a local park a couple months later and we were convinced that DSS should probably take our kids away. So what's the best way to tackle family vacations? Are there rules? Expectations that should be set? Or should you just say screw it and let the chips - or Goldfish - fall where they may? We’d love to hear from you! Please share, comment and also suggest ideas for future guests! For past episodes please visit jakeandpage.com.

Liz Hilliard & Lee Kennelly Apr 18, 2019
    Show notes

Have you ever had a secret so juicy you just had to tell someone even if it wasn’t yours to tell? And have you ever gotten a few of those details dead wrong in the telling of what you thought? Saw? Heard? Had someone’s sister’s husband’s friend’s neighbor’s Aunt LuAnn repeat on a garbled voicemail that you used as your source anyway? *hand raise emoji* That’s how a lot of people in the Charlotte area (and beyond) felt about a year ago when they started hearing rumors about our latest Date Night guests. So Liz Hilliard and Lee Kennelly decided it was time to set the record straight. Did you hear that Liz is transitioning to become a man? That’s FALSE. Did you hear Liz and Lee were besties who are now a couple? That’s TRUE. Did you hear they’re lesbians? Well, that depends on your definition… On this latest episode of the “Date Night with Jake and Page” podcast we all laughed...and some of us cried. We came away with a deeper understanding of two loving individuals who are just that. Loving. And individuals. So in that spirit we’d ask that you please listen with an open mind and heart. If you choose to comment or share, please be respectful of the fact that theirs is a story that affects people far beyond just themselves. We so appreciate that they trusted us to help tell it and we hope you all do too. And yes…it was #DateNightCLT, y’all…so you know we ended with a game of CatchPhrase. And yes…the girls continued on their winning streak. But with this couple in particular, that still doesn’t tell you everything there is to know, does it? Listen in to find out for yourself… We'd love to hear from you! Please share, comment and also suggest ideas for future guests! For past episodes please visit jakeandpage.com.

Page and Jake's Takes: Behavior at Kids Sporting Events Apr 11, 2019
    Show notes

Welcome to another round of Page and Jake's Takes where we offer super extra barely mild opinions on parenting-related topics. In this episode we discuss parent behavior at youth sports games. Jake likes to think he's not over the top (spoiler alert: he is, and the kids call him on it). Page has her moments but is definitely the more appropriately behaved of the two. But what's the right call? Shut up and let the kids enjoy it? Go nuts so your kid understands that their future is riding on EVERY SINGLE SOCCER GAME? We'd love to hear from you! Please share, comment and also suggest ideas for future guests! For past episodes please visit jakeandpage.com.

    Mike & Shia Tolbert Mar 21, 2019
    Show notes

Former Pro Bowl Carolina Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert and his wife Shia join the podcast to discuss life after retirement, the best wings in Charlotte, parenting, San Diego vs. Buffalo, and why shooters shoot. What? You'll have to listen to figure that one out. *face palm emoji* Thanks for listening! Please share, comment and suggest ideas for future guests! Page and Jake's Takes: Should adults throw themselves birthday parties? Mar 06, 2019
    Show notes

Welcome to the next installment of what we're now calling Page and Jake's Takes. Quick episodes featuring luke-warm-at-best takes on all things adulting. Today's episode focuses on adult birthdays and whether or not a grown man or woman is allowed to throw themselves a birthday party/celebrate their own birthday. How Jake handles himself every January 30th may or may not be the reason for the episode... Please share, comment and suggest ideas for future guests! Episode 28: Steve & Amanda Maney Feb 24, 2019
    Show notes

Steve Maney - know by most in Charlotte as "Maney" - and his wife Amanda join Jake and Page for the latest episode of Date Night! We learned that Maney does indeed have a first name, how he navigated the craziest emcee gig ever at the Cam Newton Foundation Gala with Cam and Michael Strahan, and how another couple handles insane morning schedules. *Fair warning, there's some language in this one. ;-) * Please share, comment and suggest ideas for future guests! Episode 27: In this together Jan 26, 2019
    Show notes

Page was featured in CharlotteFive recently as part of its "Moms Making It" series (shout out to Beth Booker for the write-up!). The title of the article says it best: Page Fehling on waking up at 1:57 a.m. and the conversation with male coworkers she’s sick of having. She discusses the article, her hot takes on the topic of parenting - AND WHY THEY SHOULDN'T BE CONSIDERED HOT!!! - and by the end of this podcast, we're pretty sure she was sick of Jake as well. Here's a link to the article: https://www.charlottefive.com/moms-making-it-page-fehling/ Thanks for listening!

Episode 26: Burn Boot Camp Co-Founders Devan & Morgan Kline Jan 26, 2019
    Show notes

Happy New Year! OK, it's way too late for that, but it's our first date night of 2019...and what better way to ring it in than with the co-founders of the home of thousands of new year's resolutions! Meet Devan and Morgan Kline, the couple behind Burn Boot Camp. Burn has taken over the exercise world over the last several years, growing from humble beginnings in Charlotte to the national fitness phenomenon it has become today. As with many stories like this, though, there is a back story that isn't nearly as glamorous. Devan and Morgan have actually known each other since they were 12, and the way they connected is pretty amazing. They talk about their relationship, parenting with crazy schedules and how they are growing into their roles as the faces of not only Burn as a gym, but as a societal movement as well. We can’t thank Devan and Morgan enough for joining us on this episode, and as always, big thanks to Hygge's Garrett Tichy for having us as a member of their inaugural Hygge Podcast Residency - and be sure to check out their new podcast studio too - wow!! Please subscribe, share and comment on this episode. Past shows can be found on jakeandpage.com, iTunes and wherever you get your podcasts. We live stream most episodes on Facebook (Page Crawford Fox 46) and videos are posted to youtube.com/jakefehling. Please keep the conversation going on social media using the hashtag #datenightclt. Episode 25: Joe & Katy Kindred, Owners of Kindred & Hello, Sailor Dec 19, 2018
    Show notes

December 25 is a special day every year around this time, and so it's fitting that we bring you Episode 25 this holiday season. Our most recent episode features Joe and Katy Kindred of Charlotte's runaway hit restaurants Kindred and Hello, Sailor! Let us first acknowledge the return of Page's favorite podcast intro on this episode. While we will always thank our buddy Penn Holderness for whipping together the intro you've heard over the previous 24 episodes in about 39 seconds, it was the throwaway clip of Jake you just heard that will likely kick things off going forward. We're either terribly sorry, or you're very welcome. Now, on to our guests... Joe and Katy have had a mildly successful foray into restaurateurship. After long, winding careers in the industry, spanning Charlotte, Chicago and San Francisco, and then back to Charlotte, the couple launched Kindred in Davidson. To say it was a rocket ship not only in the greater Queen City-area but nationwide would be putting it mildly. Kindred hit every "Top New _____" list in 2015, and it helped transform historic downtown Davidson in the process. On the heels of this success, the couple turned their attention to Lake Norman, where they took an old, declining shore front restaurant and flipped it into Hello, Sailor. In the span of a couple of years and a few miles, the Kindreds redefined night life in greater Charlotte. Joe's the chef and Katy's the brains behind the look and feel of their businesses and brand. The two talk about how they're raising their three young children as "restaurant kids," about all of the twists and turns they endured en route to their success and about how important it is for couples to continue to date even after marriage. In fact, they were headed to grab sushi immediately following the podcast. We loved them, and we think you will too. We can’t thank Joe and Katy enough for joining us on this episode, and as always, big thanks to Garrett Tichy, Hygge and Richard Brooke for having us as a member of their inaugural Hygge Podcast Residency! Episode 24: (Formerly!) NoDa Company Store's Joey Hewell & Scott Lindsley Oct 23, 2018
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 24 of Date Night with Jake and Page, a podcast focused on bringing you some of the most interesting couples in...Honduras...? Let us explain. Meet Joey Hewell and Scott Lindsey, formerly co-owners of the beloved NoDa Company Store, co-founders of the NoDa Farmers Market and the - we've now learned - sort of real sort of not real Linwell Farms. While they're known throughout the Queen City for all they've brought to Charlotte's culture and the NoDa area, Scott and Joey recently moved to Roatán, where they are creating a paradise getaway. We recorded this episode before they moved and have been jealous of their new digs ever since. We can’t thank Scott and Joey enough for joining us on this episode, and as always, big thanks to Garrett Tichy, Hygge and Richard Brooke for having us as a member of their inaugural Hygge Podcast Residency! Please subscribe, share and comment on this episode. Past shows can be found on jakeandpage.com, iTunes and wherever you get your podcasts.
