    Episode 88-Daniel Martinez, ForceDecks: More to Force Plates Than Just F=MA Jul 06, 2017
    Show notes

    Today we are discussing force plates and ForceDecks with Daniel Martinez in this episode of The Podcast. Starting out Daniel shares the direction that looking at force plates can help drive decisions for training based on his own and others research. We then discuss his recommendations for where coaches can start to look at force plate data, how it can help guide coaches, and how they have set up their dash boards with coaches to assist coaches at as high of a level as possible. Next he shares the importance of the eccentric contraction in jumping and where he's seen success, both personally and other coaches they work with, when it came to altering training based on their performance on the force platforms. He then dives into asymmetries and return to play protocols that the dual force plates can assist with uniquely to the coaches’ evaluation process, and shares how specifics in sport can make exceptions to some rules when looking at the numbers. We finish talking about what is the first question he asks coaches who are starting to use the technology and how that drives his assistance.

    Today Chris Chase, The Strength and Conditioning Development Coordinator for Memphis Grizzlies, joins us to discuss the physical development process for young players in the NBA. We start out talking about his new position in Memphis, and how the increased schedule is a unique challenge. He then touches upon how the staff they have assembled work together to build these athletes and why each member has a varying amount of importance depending on the player. We then discuss the differences he see’s from college and the NBA, where there are some benefits, and where there are some limitations to what they’re able to do. We finish talking about the role of the athlete in this whole process and how the culture of the organization/team drives everything.

    Today we are joined by Anatomy at 1220’s Marc Megna discussing the steps taken from being an less than average athlete, to the NFL, to owning the best gym in Miami. We start out talking about what drove him to training and what he fell in love when it came to training. He then shares with us what drove him to sports and how different people that think they only affected him athletically have driven him to be the person he is today. He then discusses how being an athlete has impacted him as a coach, and him being a coach impacted him as an entrepreneur, and discusses how they all work together to build a team. We then discuss building your team, what he looks for, and some huge green lights and red flags he looks for. He then gives some fantastic information including some different methods he has utilized to develop his staff educationally, professional, and personally. We finish off talking about leadership methods he’s utilized successfully and things he’s seen that aren’t as positive in making things move forward.

    In today’s edition of the podcast Wisconsin Strength Coach Erik Helland sits down and discusses training and how it has evolved through his career. We start talking about his time in Chicago and how working with Coach Vermeil has shaped him as a coach. We then talk about the role of player prep vs player monitoring and how they may be working against each other instead of in conjunction with each other. He then shares with us the primary differences and similarities seen working in the NBA and NCAA when it comes to handling basketball players, and how his flexibility with programming has evolved over his career. Next we touch upon how he handles his athlete’s from first stepping on campus to the vets they have at UW from evaluations, to progressions in training, to individualization, and where the ideas and modifications to his evaluations came from and how those drive the program to ensure that quality is the number one driver of training. We finish out discussing the importance of team building and internal leadership by the players to the team and individual athlete’s success, and the importance of the mentors coaches have along the way and how important those relationships are.
