The Future of Gaming on the Blockchain

The GameFi space is a huge, evolving space that’s constantly innovating as time goes on. Traditional game development studios are seeing the huge amount of investment capital in the space and are looking to see how the blockchain could solve some of the problems they face, or, enhance a players experience.

Niantic, the company behind Pokémon Go, starting to explore the blockchain

Earlier this year, Niantic had met the team behind SpotX Games, a Miami-based company that describes itself as “a web3 innovation studio for the real-world metaverse”. Hanke was taken with SpotX’s work and acquired the studio. “The potential for web3 is to move us back — to a more decentralized version of the internet,” Hanke said. “And to recapture some of that spirit and vision that was there when it started.”

Game developer Akatsuki announces $20 million web3 fund

Japanese entertainment and gaming firm Akatsuki said on Wednesday that it has raised a $20 million fund focused on investing in web3 projects. The fund, dubbed Emoote, will look to back startups working on projects in GameFi, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse, Akatsuki said in a press release. The name Emoote was chosen to signal that NFT consumption is based on "emotional values," Akatsuki added.

WWOC: The creator of Elon Musk’s favorite cryptocurrency co-creator says he’s a ‘grifter’ that doesn’t understand coding ‘as well as he made out’

Jackson Palmer, the Australian co-creator of Dogecoin, recently spoke to Australian news outlet Crikey where he gave his opinion of our new twitter overlord. Jackson described Mr Musk as “a grifter” who “sells a vision in hopes that he can one day deliver what he’s promising, but he doesn’t know that. He’s just really good at pretending he knows.

But it still begs the question: why are we seeing such big crypto companies doing well or getting funding while in the midst of a bear market?

Sam Bankman Fried Says he could Spend up to $1 Billion in Next Presidential Election

Sam Bankman-Fried says he could spend up to $1 billion or more in the 2024 election, which would easily make him the biggest-ever political donor in a single election. Speaking to Jacob Goldstein on his podcast “Whats You Problem?”, Sam said he expects to give “north of $100 million” in the next presidential election and that he has a “soft ceiling” of $1 billion if candidates like Donald Trump were to run.

Seth Greens new animated show “White Horse Tavern” has been halted due to Seth falling for an NFT phishing scandal. The show’s characters were based on Greens extensive NFT collection, ranging from Mutant Apes to Punks. One of his main characters named “Fred Simian” was flipped for $42,000 profit on OpenSea.

What was one of the largest stablecoins, TerraUSD (UST), fell from grace after it depegged from its $1 value on Monday and since dropped as much as 70% to $0.2998, when it was never supposed to deviate from the dollar-equivalent value. Recently, the blockchain behind the Luna token stopped processing new transactions for the second time in less than a day.

WWOC: Vatican Museum to open an NFT gallery of its art collection

The Vatican Museum will be using launching an NFT gallery to launch great Itallian artists into the metaverse. The partnership between the Vatican’s non-profit organization Humanity 2.0 Foundation and Sensorium promises to create the first-ever virtual reality (VR) and non-fungible token (NFT) gallery, hosting the Vatican’s art, content and academic initiatives, including manuscripts and masterpieces.

Is it Game Over for Easy Money?!?

The US Federal Reserve has had another meeting this week, deciding unanimously to increase the interest rates by half a percentage point, setting the scene for economies to do the same around the world. With more interest rate hikes planned throughout the year, does this mean the end of “easy money” for crypto investments?

US makes biggest interest rate rise in 22 years

The US central bank announced its biggest interest rate increase in more than two decades, increasing its benchmark rate by 0.5 percentage points to a target rate range of between 0.75% and 1%. This of course follows on the 0.25 percentage point increase in March.

BINANCE invests $500 Million towards Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition

Binance, one of the largest global crypto exchanges, has shown up in a list of 18 other investors giving Elon Musk financial backing for his twitter acquisition. Binance is one of the only crypto related companies on the list, but the company is committing to invest $500 million towards Musk’s plan.

Microstrategy would face margin call if Bitcoin drops below $21,000

Microstrategy has amassed more than 129,000 bitcoin since the software company began buying the cryptocurrency with debt in 2020. CFO Phong Le recently said in an earnings call that the coin would have to drop below $21,000 before the company would have a margin call
