Norm Murdock and Steve Palmer welcome special guests Brian Steel and Steven Walter about pressing policing issues affecting our community.

Brian Steel is the Executive Vice President of FOP Capital City Lodge #9 serving 4300 members.

We talk about the lack of effective investigative resources and the need to replace experienced investigators with younger ones, highlighting the importance of addressing this potential gap.

Making Tax Laws Understandable with Glenn Harper from Harper & Company CPA's Oct 20, 2023
    Show notes

We had a fascinating discussion with Glenn Harper from Harper & Company CPA's on tax codes, strategies, and the importance of understanding the system.

Here are three key takeaways from our conversation:

1️⃣ The Tax Code is Complex: There are different tax codes for different individuals, particularly distinguishing between regular employees and self-employed individuals/entrepreneurs. Self-employed individuals have more flexibility in leveraging deductions and shifting income compared to regular employees.

2️⃣ Creative Tax Planning: As income levels increase, individuals may explore options to defer and manipulate the system to offset taxes. For example, real estate investments can generate cash flow while resulting in a tax loss due to depreciation. It's important to stay updated on the ever-changing tax provisions and seek professional advice to take advantage of legal provisions.

3️⃣ Accountability and Contribution: It's crucial for all individuals, regardless of income level, to uphold their financial responsibilities. Even low-income individuals who receive the earned income tax credit should contribute financially. Ensuring accurate and honest tax information is submitted is essential to avoid penalties and legal consequences.

The Conflict Between Israel, Hamas, and Proxy Wars Oct 13, 2023
    Show notes

In this episode, the team delves into the complex situation in Gaza. We explore the possibility of military operations similar to those in Fallujah and question whether Israel would engage in genocide themselves. We highlight the significance of the ongoing Hamas resistance and a pro-Hamas event planned at The Ohio State University. It's a conversation that challenges our understanding of the conflicts in the region.

We explore the current state of affairs in American politics. From the recent election of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House to the need for unity within the Republican party, we unpack the strategies and approaches being taken to address critical issues. We discuss the challenges of gaining political control, the danger of uninformed voters, and the essential role of the legislative process in shaping our nation's laws.

And an overview of Ohio's Issue 1 and Issue 2.

The Gaetz Eight - Sellouts or Futurists? Oct 06, 2023
    Show notes

We covered a wide range of topics that are sure to leave you thinking. Here are the key takeaways:

Government Spending & Currency Devaluation: With the world seeming out of control, it's important to confront the Democrats as forcefully as they confront the Republicans regarding budget issues. The government's inability to control spending could lead to a "death spiral" affecting public services. Printing more currency may devalue the dollar significantly.

The warning period is over: Ticketing begins for Ohio's new texting while driving law - After six months of issuing warnings, police can now begin handing out tickets for those caught texting while driving in Ohio.

Part of the overhaul of K-12 education will happen despite a court order - Citing concerns about Ohio’s ability to keep funding public schools, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday that part of the planned overhaul of K-12 education would happen despite a judicial order.

“I cannot let this situation fester,” DeWine said. “I cannot let this chaos happen.”

"Moral Unburdening Was Found In The Collective Identity" Sep 22, 2023
    Show notes

We dive into this fascinating quote Steve uses frequently: "moral unburdening was found in the collective identity."

Remember Desert Storm? The US showed the footage of the "highway of death" and the American people demanded that the troops come home. But did we really think about the purpose of our presence in Iraq?

If we had focused on prosecuting the Iraqi Republican Guard instead of getting caught up in the CNN footage, maybe a second Desert Storm wouldn't have been necessary. It's crucial to consider all angles!

Now let's talk about World War 2 history. Patton observed the post-war scenario, specifically the complete occupation of Poland by the Soviet Union. The Europeans aimed to defend Poland from despots but ended up leaving it in Stalin's hands.

Some argue that the Soviet Union, not the US or England, won World War 2. It's a thought-provoking perspective that challenges our understanding of history.

    Other Ohio stories we covered...

The Remembrance Project and a recent school bus accident.

The Biden administration will grant temporary legal status to an estimated 472,000 Venezuelans who are already in the United States.

Fentanyl overdose deaths rising in the US. And tracing where this drug is coming from.

Hundreds of flying taxis to be made in Ohio, via corporate welfare (as we see it).

It was an absolute honor to be a part of this discussion on bravery, dedication, and the importance of remembering our veterans. 🇺🇸

Here are the 2 key takeaways from our conversation:

The Lima Company Memorial exhibit travels across the country, thanks to the support of R+L Carriers, and allows thousands of people to pay their respects. It's a reminder of the importance of remembering and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

2️⃣ The Challenges of Military Service: From inadequate protection in amp tracks during Operation Iraqi Freedom to the mental health struggles faced by veterans such as PTSD, our conversation highlights the challenges our servicemen and women face both during and after their deployments. It's crucial that we provide the support and resources needed to help them transition back into civilian life.

Gain a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by our veterans and the need for continued support. Let's remember and honor their service while working towards a better future for our heroes. 🙌
