    Episode 345 - Dave Tamkin Aug 04, 2011
    Show notes

Chicago Singer/Songwriter, Dave Tamkin, currently resides in Boulder, CO. Dave Tamkin, has created his own unique style of rhythmic-acoustic rock that's based around a fresh musical vision. His shows vary from intimate solo acoustic performances to a full band experience encapsulating a mixture of personal lyrics and skilled songwriting set against a high-energy percussive backbone. While touring relentlessly all over the nation, he has shared the stage with Guster, Glen Phillips, The Samples, Rusted Root, Michael Galbicki, Butch Walker, Matt Wertz, Eric Hutchinson, Stroke 9, The Violent Femmes, Fountains of Wayne, Vertical Horizon, Will Hoge, Stephen Kellog and The Sixers, Willy Porter, Freddy Jones Band, Brian Vanderark, Rhett Miller of the Old 97s, and Carbon Leaf to name a few. Tamkin has a style that's hard to resist. His lyrics are unabashedly honest and his passion for playing is undying. He is currently touring nationally solo and plays the mid west with his band. Dave Tamkin and Co. create a distinct sound. Their equal parts create a sonic percussive assault mixed with a vivid, melodic instrumental bed, shaken with a twist of passionate vocal lines. And they'll make you shake your ass!Be sure to catch Dave live at the Beat Kitchen this coming Sunday August 7th. He is obviously a wonderful performer to see live!!!!

    Episode 344 - MUSIKANTO Aug 04, 2011
    Show notes

MUSIKANTO walks the line between Indie-Blues and Urban Americana, while borrowing elements of Experimental Folk and broken-down Orchestral music. The Chicago songwriter grew up listening to his father's obscure folk and roots rock records and the music of Fraser and Debolt and Jerry Hahn. With a propensity toward heartbreaking ballads and melodic melodrama, MUSIKANTO's songs survive the bite of a Chicago Winter and the soul of a Midwestern bon-fire. MUSIKANTO carries the lyrical weight of folks like Van Morrison and Elliott Smith and the driving tone of Ray Lamontagne and Amos Lee. His narratives rattle the core of the human spirit leaving you feeling like an outsider who witnessed something very real. After years of touring and writing, Musikanto set out to record his best record to date. He made countless late-night drives from Chicago to Milwaukee and back to record the new songs at a friend's home studio. During the drives, he listened to the songs develop their personalities, re-writing lyrics and adding instrumentation he heard in his head as he drove.NEW ALBUM "SKY OF DRESSES" OUT IN AUGUST! "There's an influx of bands struggling to imprint themselves on the modern folk movement. Chicago's Mike Musikanto has figured out the key-sincerity. When a song sounds authentic, it doesn't matter what label you tack on it, people will take notice." - Paste Magazine

    Episode 341 - Ode Jul 19, 2011
    Show notes

Davor Palos-Lead Vocal Guitar, Robert Palos Guitar, Nikola Dokic Guitar, Elliot Taggart Bass, Daniel Crane drums Ode is an indie band that began in Chicago after brothers Davor and Robert Palos left Bosnia. The siblings fittingly dubbed their band Ode, meaning ‘to leave' in their native Bosnian tongue. Soon after, drummer Daniel Crane and bassist Elliot Taggart joined the ensemble to complete the brooding Balkan roots sound.Ode's sound is a mixture of rock, folk, and world music. Certain pieces of the puzzle are indigenous to their Eastern European homeland but richly layered with heavy rhythmic elements and punctuated with deliberate pauses. The ensuing fusion is a trailblazing, energetic brand of rock music. Front man Davor's harmoniously roaring yet graceful voice cuts like anguish through a room. He has the ability to move an audience through haunting melodies and beautifully complicated, piercing lyrics. These Guys are absolutely AMAZING! and then add Holiday House and Goodbyehome to the mix, and then you give them all extra long sets. These three bands will melt some faces. Join the CAU Crew on this coming Friday July 22 at the Bottom Lounge for a truly Monster Show. This is another 17+ Show by CAUMichael Teach, Founder/Host, CAU

The passion with which she opens herself up gives way to an introspective and revealing performance style that engages listeners and forms a true connection with her audience. Her colorful, harmonic vocals are a perfect match for her skillful guitar work, making her a vibrant performer not to be missed
