    Episode 352 - Ben Keeler and the 500 Club Aug 29, 2011
    Show notes

Ben Keeler was twenty-one when he moved from his hometown in Michigan. Amidst the unforgiving winters, thick summer days, and mid-western manners of Chicago, Keeler refined his signature sound. After graduating from Columbia College for Music, Keeler joined forces with fellow Chicago musicians and formed Ben Keeler and the 500 Club. When he wasn't performing, Keeler could be found aboard sailboats on Lake Michigan, teaching music to kids, coaching Little League baseball, and working on movie sets. The Windy City treated Keeler well. Ben Keeler and the 500 Club's latest record, Water Water, caught the eager ear of Chicago's music community. The record's lush string, horn, and choir textures established Keeler's musical clout, while the band's energetic live show captured the attention of all who experienced it. This put Ben Keeler and the 500 Club in some of Chicago's premier venues and allowed them a consistent Midwest tour schedule. Leaving the safety of Chicago success, Keeler took a chance and set his sights on the Pacific. With little planning, low money, and no hesitation he took his music to the west coast. After touring across the country on the road trip out to California, he eventually settled in San Francisco. The City extended a warm warm welcome to Keeler, as he quickly created a buzz in the local scene. He established a loyal fan base by captivating people in hip San Francisco venues all over the city. With the San Francisco sun, scenery, and nightlife serving as backdrop, Keeler's music and perspective have been challenged and refreshed. His music and live show reflect this spark. He has been working on a new album (to be announced this Summer) and performing all around the Bay Area and throughout California. Bringing his solo act to California laid the groundwork for Ben Keeler and the 500 Club to tour the west coast this spring.

    Episode 351 - Branden Sipes Aug 22, 2011
    Show notes

Branden Sipes is a Colorado native singer-songwriter and guitarist hailing from the Rockies. A Colorado State University graduate, Branden earned degrees in both music and business, studying classical guitar, voice, and marketing. Since finishing school he has set his music career in motion with a busy schedule of performing, recording, and teaching guitar. Appearing as a solo acoustic musician, Branden presents original songs combining rock, pop, and folk influences. An engaging solo performer, his lyrics are catchy and finely crafted, describing universal life experiences with a clever ease. His intricate guitar work is a well suited accompaniment to his intimate vocals. His debut EP, Contemplation, gained deserved notice. Songs from the release have been featured on 93.3 KTCL and 88.9 KRFC along with several internet radio stations nationwide. Branden has been awarded 1st Alternate in the Telluride Troubadour Competition, Honorable Mention in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, and Honorable Mention in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest. With his new album, That Side of Me, Branden Sipes is a true artist on the verge. The ten original songs cover the usual topics of life and love, but the writing also takes a deeper approach in looking for answers to the questions we all ask ourselves at some point. During the recording process, Branden kept a clear focus on smooth vocals and intricate acoustic guitar while adding layers of electric guitars, bass, drums, and keys. Tasteful production on the album gives a big sound to the heartfelt songs he performs live each night as a solo artist.

    Episode 348 - John Brodeur Aug 11, 2011
    Show notes

New York musician John Brodeur has made a reputation as a talented recording artist, composer of first-class alternative pop songs, and a restless multi-instrumentalist. On April 5, John released Tiger Pop Ten, a 2-CD set featuring a newly recorded version of his debut album coupled with a 10th-anniversary reissue of the original disc. (The albums are available individually as digital downloads.) This spring, John set out on his first full U.S. solo tour, a 55-date juggernaut with stops in all four corners of the country. Another new album is expected by the end of the year; in the meantime, John has been regularly releasing digital singles and EPs via his website, johnbrodeur.com. Released at the beginning of 2001, Tiger Pop was performed entirely by Brodeur, a true one-man-band effort in a time before everyone with a laptop could make that claim. The album's pop smarts and try-anything production style caught the notice of the national media, including Performing Songwriter magazine, who gushed "Pop records like this may be scarce, but when they are of this caliber, they won't remain under the radar for long."John Brodeur has shared the stage with bands like Fountains of Wayne, the Whigs, They Might Be Giants, Pernice Brothers, the Bravery, O.A.R., and Rooney; and singer-songwriters including Gavin Degraw, Greg Laswell, Glenn Tilbrook, and Freedy Johnston. In addition to making his own records, Brodeur has lent his musical talents to Soren Well, Luke Rathborne, Patrick Bower and the World Without Magic, Silver Rockets, Luther Russell, and many more. Many thanks to John for playing one of our Stonebridge Guitars for this Podcast. Stonebridge is one of our sponsors and we love the high quality of these handmade guitars from the Czech Republic.
