“Beautiful Chaos” Chelsea FanCast #865 Jan 03, 2022
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Marco Worrall & Dan Silver to look back on an eventful week in the annals of Chelsea FC culminating in a fighting 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

On the show tonight, in part one, we look at Mane’s assault on Azpi, a familiar story of poor finishing and worse defensive lapses and an unfamiliar story of a Kovacic worldy and a Pulisic goal and a great fighting performance by Chelsea for Tuchel.

In part two we applaud the midfield axis of Kante and Kovacic; does Pulisic’s goal signal a return to form? And after another superb performance in goal by Mendy, we ask how much Chelsea will miss him while he’s away at AFCON.

In part three we have the results of this week’s Fannies for the Liverpool match; answer some questions from Discord and we have some emails to read out and as a couple of them are on the Romelu Lukaku issue, we’ll discuss it in detail then.

In part four we round up the show with our preview of the Chelsea v Spurs Carabao Cup semi-final 1st leg on Wednesday night.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #864 Dec 30, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dayne Whittle and guests to look back at the 1-1 draw against Brighton and ahead to Sunday's match against Liverpool.

Adam Newson from Football.London joins us in part one to look back at the Brighton game. Chelsea are clearly running on empty but does that excuse the performance? With Reece James and Andreas Christensen going off Chelsea now have even more key injuries. And while Lukaku's performance was a positive, what do we make about his comments in an interview with Sky Sports Italia?

Tony Evans, former Football Editor at The Times joins us for 'The Opposition View' this week. We talk to Tony about football twitter and the Chelsea-Liverpool rivalry. Is Tuchel modelling Klopp’s style and what of Klopp's support of Tuchel regarding the potential injuries by over working the players? What are Tony's thoughts on the Chelsea v Liverpool match being the first legal safe standing match. How will Liverpool cope without their AFCON absentees and is the htitle race still between Liverpool, City and Chelsea. We wrap up by asking Tony how he sees the match going on Sunday.

In part three, Chidge, JK and Dayne preview the Chelsea v Liverpool match. Does Tuchel have enough players for a team selection? With the make do and mend policy of playing unfit players not working what other options does Tuchel have? Recall loanees? Play some of the youth? A system change? Emergency buys in the window? We discuss the options. And given the mental and physical exhaustion and key injuries how worried are we about getting humped by Liverpool? We discuss how do we see it going & give our predictions.

    'Punching' Chelsea FanCast #863 Dec 27, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan to look back at a decent 3-1 win over Aston Villa an dahead to Wednesday night's match against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

On the show tonight, we discuss Pulisic taking one for the team as a false number 9; the return of a proper number 9 in Lukaku; Hudson-Odoi putting it in literally and metaphorically and we ask is Jorginho Chelsea's best ever penalty taker?

In part two we conclude the review of the Villa match looking at the form of Alonso and Kovacic in the light of injuries to Kante and Silva, with one eye on Liverpool coming next weekend. We also look at Tuchel's comments about Covid and injuries, widely misinterpreted as moaning by the media and ask should the Premier League have a winter break?

In part three we have the results of the Fannies for the Villa match, a Discord question and four emails to read out and we wrap up the show in part four with a preview of Wednesday night's match against Brighton.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #862 Dec 23, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd are joined by Tony Glover to look back at the Carabao Cup Quarter Final against Brentford and nlook ahead to Boxing Day's trip to Aston Villa.

In part one we look back at the 2-0 victory over Brentford in the Carabao Cup Quarter Final. Tuchel threw in the kids in the form of Soonsup-Bell, Vale and Simons and they did not disappoint. Chalobah showed that he is a leader in waiting and Kante in just 15 minutes that he is still pure class. But Chelsea were matched off the pitch by the superb away support who made their voices well and truly heard with a fairly comprehensive airing if the Chelsea repetoire. With two more matches against Spurs in the semi-final in January how will Thomas Tuchel manage the overload of fixtures?

In part two we talk to Justin Hawthorne from the Up The Villa podcast in 'Opposition View'. What has new manager Steve Gerrard's impact been? What are Villa fans expectations now? How much has Covid disrupted Villa and how does Justin see Boxing Day's match going?

In part three we have a look at the upcoming Villa game. Who will Tuchel pick? What is the history of the fixture and what is the current form. Plus more of Chidge's 'unwanted stats'! Finally, how do we see it going?

“Fog 'Em All” Chelsea FanCast #861 Dec 20, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dan Silver and Alex Churchill to look bag at a foggy 0-0 draw away at Wolves.

On the show tonight, we discuss a game which arguably should not have gone ahead with 7 Chelsea players out with Covid and others injured or returning too soon from injury. A depleted Chelsea side made hard work of it in the 1st half before dominating the 2nd, with Saul surprisingly making the difference. But it was not enough to create chances and actually score though.

In part two we acknowledge that Wolves have been a tough nut to crack recently and commend Chelsea's battling performance under difficult circumstances. We debunk the media invented Chelsea crisis and look at the real crisis: injuries and Covid and ask what happens or what should happen next.

In part three, we have a depleted Fannies result, questions from Discord and some emails to read out and in part four we conclude with a preview of the Carabao Quarter Final against Brentford on Wednesday night.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #860 Dec 17, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan and Adam Newson from Football.London to look back at the 1-1 draw against Everton and ahead to the match against Wolves on Sunday.

A failure to finish and defensive errors cost us again in the 1-1 draw against Everton. Does this mean that squad players such as Barkley, Saul, Pulisic and Alonso are not up to it? How culpable was Tuchel? Should the injuries and the circumstances around Covid be taken into account? Does Matt Law have a point about Chelsea's lack of mental strength and poor decision making and what about contract uncertainty over key players?

We discuss today's press conference with Adam and ask is player availability an issue with covid uncertainty? With Jorginho and Loftus-Cheek injured will Kante & Kovacic start? And should games be going ahead at all due to Omicron transmission rate?

Looking ahead to the match against Wolves, we discuss the possible team selection, Wolves form and strengths before assessing how we see the match going.
