This week Jane leads an all female panel in a new initiative by the podcast to help empower the voices of more women in the football world.

Joining Jane is Kerrie Evans from the Chelsea Women Supporters Group and Meg Aherne from The CFCW Social.

They discuss Chelsea’s narrow 1-0 win over Servette in the Champions League and are joined by Chris Ferville from Her Football Hub to give us the opposition view ahead of Sunday’s WSL clash with Birmingham City.

Unfortunately due to some technical issues the final part of the show did not save so the ending of this weeks show might seem a bit abrupt.

    50 Years of Chelsea: 1998-99 Pt 2 Nov 17, 2021
    Show notes

The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Mark Meehan to look back at the 1998-99 season.

In Pt 2 we pick up the season in January with Chelsea top of the Premier League and hopes high for their first league title since 1955.

Chelsea got past Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup 3rd round, helped by a flying hot dog but their unbeaten run came to an end away to Arsenal. The 2-1 home win against Liverpool will forever be remembered for the spat between Graeme Le Saux and Robbie Fowler but goals were drying up in the absence of Gus Poyet and Tore Andre Flo through injury.

Chelsea wobbled in March with an unlucky defeat to Man Utd in the FA Cup and then an unfortunate 1-0 home defeat to West Ham. But this was a mere precursor to what happened in April when Real Mallorca knocked then out of the European Cup Winners Cup semi-final and then a 2-2 draw at home to Leicester courtesy of a Steve Guppy goal all but ended the title challenge.

The season seemed like a massive disappointment going so close to winning the title and finishing 3rd just 4 points behind Man Utd and being knocked out at the quarter final of both the League and FA Cups and the semi-final of the Cup Winners Cup. But in truth only 3 league defeats was our best ever performance to date and only 6 clubs had ever done this in a season. Crucially for next season it was Chelsea's first Champions League qualification; their second equal highest finish ever; highest average attendance since 1971/72; most clean sheets and lowest number of goals conceded in the top flight.

But the feeling festered that maybe Chelsea had blown their best chance of a league title in decades. If only Casaraghi, Poyet and Flo had not been injured? If only Vialli had bought another striker in January? If only Chelsea hadn't dropped points against Blackburn, West Ham, Boro, Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester.

If only...it was that kind of season.

    50 Years of Chelsea: 1998-99 Pt 1 Nov 16, 2021
    Show notes

The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Mark Meehan to look back at the 1998-99 season.

3 months after the end of Chelsea's most successful season since 1971, they started the 1998-99 season by winning their third European trophy, the UEFA Super Cup, beating the mighty Real Madrid 1-0. Hope's naturally were very high for the season and with the signings of Pierluigi Casaraghi, Albert Ferrer, Brian Laudrup and World Cup winner Marcel Desailly, many thought that Chelsea might challenge for their first League title since 1955.

The first half of the season seemed to confirm this view as Chelsea went on a 21 match unbeaten run and the 2-0 defeat of Spurs at White Hart Lane in December put them top of the Premier League at the end of the year.

But, Chelsea were unlucky with injuries with Casaraghi's career ending injury against West Ham in November followed by Laudrup's departure to Copenhagen and then Gus Poyet's injury on Boxing Day denying Chelsea their cutting edge. Thankfully Gianfranco Zola was in impressive for, but would that be enough?

    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and some Chelsea FanCast listeners and members of our Patreon and Discord groups to talk Chelsea.

Its always lovely to catch up with some of our listeners and invite them on to a show once in a while. And it’s a great opportunity for them to ask us questions on, well, absolutely anything; Chelsea related or anything else.

We answer questions on the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge; the contract situation with Rudiger and Christensen; how we fell in love with Chelsea and much more. We also have a couple of emails an dmore songs!

“From the Sublime to the Ridiculous!” Chelsea FanCast #850 Nov 08, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Marco Worrall and Mark Meehan to look back at frustrating 1-1 draw against Burnley on Saturday.

On the show tonight, we applaud some scintillating football by Chelsea on Saturday capped off by a wonderful Kai Havertz goal.

In part two we bemoan Chelsea’s profligacy and ask what happened after 70 minutes? Did they switch off, get bored or did Sean Dyche’s changes make a difference. At least for now, the draw was mitigated by Liverpool losing to West Ham so Chelsea remains top going in to the International Break.

In part three we have the results of this week’s Fannies for the Burnley match; some questions from Discord and some emails to read out and to wrap up we have the winners and losers from our Prem Predictions League.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #849 Nov 05, 2021
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Dayne Whittle to look ahead to Saturday's match against Burnley.

In part one, Adam Newson from Football.London joins us to look back at Chelsea's Champions' League victory away to Malmo, where it was perhaps tougher than it needed to be. Thanks to a tactical switch and a brilliant goal set up by Hudson-Odoi Chelsea are one small step away from the knock out stages. Loftus-Cheek put in a man-of-the-match display but what were the malmo fans chanting?

We also report back on today's Press Conference, talk Chelsea's injuries, England call ups, Trevoh Chalobah signing a new contract and Tommy T being nominated October Manager of the Month.

In part two, George Poole from the No Nay Never podcast joins us for 'Opposition View' to preview the Chelsea v Burnley match from Burnley's perspective. We discuss what Sean Dyche means to Burnley having just celebrated 9 years at the club; is Tuchel right saying Burnley may be short on points but not performance so far this season; how highly does George rate Maxwel Cornet and can he see Burnley causing Chelsea problems on Saturday.

In part three, we preview the Chelsea v Burnley match. What's the likely team selection; will Pulisic and Loftus-Cheek start and will Silva finally get a rest! With Man Utd playing City and West Ham playing Liverpool, Chelsea has a great chance to extend their lead at the top so just how important will it be to pick up another three points on Saturday? And finally we discuss how we see it going and give our predictions and talking of our predictions we have our weekly update on the winners and losers in our Prem Predictions league.
