#97 Greg Raymer: 2004 WSOP Main Event Champ and Author of “Winning Tournament Strategies” Nov 27, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is the winner of the 2004 WSOP Main Event and Author of “Winning Tournament Strategies” Greg “Fossilman” Raymer.
Before I dive too deep into the intro, big thanks for D&B Poker publishing for putting this interview together (As well as the current & future CPG episodes with Amanda Botfeld, Ashley Adams, and Tricia Cardner).
In the world of poker, “Fossilman” is a living legend.
I remember the exact moment in time I was watching the 2004 WSOP Main Event with my old roommates. The Moneymaker boom had just begun and the WSOP was primetime must-see-TV on ESPN.
That was the year David Williams burst onto the scene, Josh Arieh became a household name if your household loves poker, and “Action” Dan Harrington went to back-to-back Main Event final tables.
It was a great year for poker.
Something that may be a little underappreciated today is Greg’s 2005 ME run one year later where he nearly defended his title but ultimately finished in 25th place.
I hope you’re ready and chomping at the bit to take a trip back to the golden age of poker.
    In today’s episode, you’ll learn:
Why Greg thinks limit poker is underappreciated and wishes more limit games were spread.
Greg’s hilarious poker origin story after first learning how to count cards playing Blackjack.
Why Greg believes theory ought to be learned before tactics.
    And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado, I bring to you the patent attorney turned poker legend Greg “Fossilman” Raymer.

Today's episode of the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast features two recent hands Coach Thomas played on Ignition with a Queen Deuce and a Queen Trey.
You're going to hear straight from the horses mouth why Coach Thomas opted to put in three-bets with hands that don't really have much business putting extra money into the pot and gain some valuable lessons as it relates to counting combos when bluff catching.

#95 Mark Herm: The Closed-Minded GTO Basher Who Crushes Year After Year Nov 20, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is legendary MTT reaper of souls Mark “Dipthrong” Herm.
Mark has been on my radar as a force in the poker world for a very, very long time. Like 2007 Absolute Poker long.
Back in those days I was grinding away at cash games but allowed myself to take some shots here and there at some of the $200-$1k MTTs on Absolute for fun, and I specifically remember being aware of Dipthrong in every single tourney I played.
The fact that he’s still doing extraordinary things in the world of poker all these years later does not surprise me one bit.
What was very surprising to me was just how alike Mark and I are. We’re about the same age, we’ve been playing cards for about the same amount of time, and we both lean towards the intuitive side of poker more so than the analytical side.
I’m also extremely grateful that he’s also a genuinely open dude who isn’t afraid of discussing some of the more taboo areas of the poker lifestyle like struggling with mental health and adderall.
In today’s episode you’re also going to learn:
Why Mark bashes GTO every chance he gets.
How Elliot Roe has been especially impactful in Mark’s career.
Why Mark only plays on Sundays.
    And much, MUCH more!
And now, without any further ado, it’s my absolute delight and pleasure to bring to you my conversation with the legendary Mark Herm.

In my mission to tap into some of Tommy’s great stories, mind-bending perspectives, and massive poker wisdom our conversation went to some pretty unexpected places.
Places that may make you feel a little uncomfortable and that you may not be expecting on a poker podcast.
You’re going to hear Tommy and I talk about stuff like spirituality, death, and tripping on mushrooms. If those kinds of topics are your jam, I’ll venture to guess you’re about to be pleasantly blown away.
In our conversation you’re going to learn:

#93 Ashley Adams: Collecting Poker Stories From All 50 States Nov 13, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is the author of Winning No Limit Hold’em Ashley Adams.
If there’s one thing I can tell you straight-away about Ashley it’s that dude is a natural born storyteller and has gone out of his way to collect more than his fair share of amazing poker stories. Luckily for you, he’s just about to share some of his favorites in this here conversation.
You’ll hear about the time he traveled to a home game down a dirt road in the middle of the sticks in Alabama to the time he battled in a game that makes your favorite podcast host salivate in a now extinct Asian casino.
In today’s episode you’re also going to learn:
    - The resourceful ways Ashley was able to find home games in towns where he had literally zero connections.
    - What really grinds mine and Ashley’s gears as it relates to poker content creation.
    - And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado I bring to you the poker Storyteller Supreme himself Ashley Adams.

#92 Amanda Botfeld: Making Poker Strategy Less Complex & Author of "A Girls Guide to Poker" Nov 10, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is the author of A Girl’s Guide to Poker and Poker Powher teacher Amanda Botfeld.
In just a few moments you’re going to learn how Amanda went from writing political newsletters for 30,000 subscribers to falling into the poker world directly following the 2016 presidential election.
But first if you’re a longtime listener to Chasing Poker Greatness you’ll know that I believe the next “poker boom” will come from one of two sources:
Online poker miraculously becomes legalized and regulated across the entire United States.
Poker becomes more appealing to women.
Number one is way beyond my control and, quite frankly, it feels like our country has some bigger fish to fry. Number tw, though, represents an opportunity.
The organization Amanda collaborates with, Poker Powher, has a very simple mission that in the words of Nick Howard “is doing the noble work”.
Their mission is to teach 1 million women confidence, strategic thinking, and decision making skills through the game of poker.
Now I understand that, seeing as only 5-10% of my audience are females, that you’re most likely a male. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have females in your life who may just fall in love with the beauty of playing cards if given the opportunity.
So I’m going to challenge you to float the idea of poker to some of the females in your life, whether they be your girlfriend, spouse, mom, or sister.
Tell them about Amanda’s book “A Girl’s Guide to Poker”, Poker Powher, and also Maria Konnikova’s “The Biggest Bluff”. It may not seem like that big of a deal but you could really make an large impact when it comes to growing and sustaining this amazing game of cards we all love so much.
With that said, in the following episode you’re going to learn:
    - The surprising reason Amanda decided to invest her energy into playing cards.
    - How she managed to land a coveted book deal with one of the largest poker publishers in the biz.
    - And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado I bring to you the wise, witty, and clever Amanda Botfeld.

    Show notes

Lance’s story is about to blow your mind. His career has taken him from poker journalist to being in charge of one of the largest poker platforms in the world smack dab in the middle of the poker boom to calling his own number at the WSOP by working excruciatingly long days on his own dime.
After our recording wrapped up, Lance reached out privately and told me he really enjoyed our interview because he got the chance to speak about some things he’s never had the opportunity to go into great detail about which, as you might imagine, put me right on Cloud 9.
The man is a professional storyteller whose immersion in the poker world means he has seen and experienced way more than than your average bear and I’m genuinely honored to share those stories with you today.
    In our conversation, you’ll learn:
