#110 Mike Noori: The Underestimated High Stakes Mixed Game Beast Jan 20, 2021
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is high stakes mixed-game player Mike Noori.
You may remember Mike from a bet that went viral on poker Twitter a few years back where he bet he could eat more than $1,000 worth of McDonalds food in 36 hours which, as Jimmy Fricke pointed out, would have been 66,000 calories.
Spoiler Alert: He failed pretty spectacularly.
You actually won’t hear anything about the bet on in this episode because the old thing has been discussed ad nauseum and, well, Mike’s probably had enough McDonald related items spew out of his mouth for one lifetime.
Instead we focus on the area in Mike’s life where he’s achieved consistent success over a very long period of time: High stakes mixed game poker.
In today’s episode, you’re going to learn:
Where Mike believes his biggest edge as a poker player comes from.
A WSOP ME degen story that has a very happy ending.
Why there’s a ton of value in being underestimated at the poker tables.
    And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado, I bring to you the fearless high stakes mixed game crusher Mike Noori.

#109 Duncan Palamourdas: The UCLA Professor of Poker Who Won My Heart Jan 15, 2021
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is UCLA professor and author of Why Alex Beats Bobbie at Poker: Developing a Fundamentally Sound Approach at Poker, Duncan Palamourdas.
Duncan won my heart very early on in this conversation because he’s a math guy who uttered the magical words, “People overestimate the usefulness of solvers”.
    Be still my beating heart.
Despite knowing very little about Duncan heading into our conversation, this episode is easily one of my favorite Chasing Poker Greatness episodes of all-time and you’re about to quickly discover why.
In today’s episode, you’re going to learn:
Duncan’s concept of “meta-humility” and why it ought to be in every successful poker player’s arsenal.
How-to evaluate any potential poker coaches you’re considering to hire for private lessons.
Why there’s no one-size-fits-all methodology for reaching your maximum poker potential.
    And much, MUCH more.
So without any further ado, it is my honor to bring to you the brilliant, articulate, and dare I say handsome Duncan Palamourdas.

#108 Ben Hayles: Brilliant Poker Coach, Author, & Founder of Post Flop Poker Jan 13, 2021
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is poker coach, author, and the founder of the Post Flop Poker Podcast Ben Hayles.
Ben’s path towards poker is a little bit different than most folks, including yours truly, simply because he actually had the foresight to put together a plan of action so that he would give himself the best possible chance of success.
I know this might be shocking to you but most folks who entered poker in the early 200’s just saved up $3,000, put everything they owned in their ‘94 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and drove 10 hours away hoping everything would work out…
Or maybe that was just me.
Anyway 18 months after creating the vision for his poker career, Ben found himself stepping on board a plane to Bangkok, excitement coursing through his body, and his life would never be the same again.
I’m super pumped up to share that story along with many others with you in a couple of moments.
In today’s episode you’re going to learn:
Why being a great poker coach is totally different than just being a great poker player.
The pivotal piece Ben was missing in his early poker career.
The origin story of the Post Flop Poker podcast.
    And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado I bring to you author, brilliant poker coach, fellow podcaster, and all-around great guy Ben Hayles.

    Show notes

Coach Brad and his student Jon return for a third round of Tactical Tuesday. If you've ever been curious about the types of discussions that occur during Coach Brad's coaching sessions, this week's episode will provide a close look at just that. Jon shows Coach Brad two hands that he played recently at $5/$10 NL on Ignition, with both hands including at least one street of action where Jon had no idea what to do. Listen in as Coach Brad provides detailed analysis on each hand and leaves Jon with a much clearer plan for how to proceed facing similar situations in the future.

#107 Brian Rast: An All-Time Great, $21 Million+ in MTT Cashes, & Nose Bleed Mainstay Jan 08, 2021
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is one of the all-time poker GOATs Brian Rast. Brian has over $21 million in MTT cashes in his career which lands him at #25 in the All-Time money list...
And he doesn’t even really battle in the tournament arena much at the moment.
Some of his MTT highlights include:
Scooping the $500k buy-in High Roller Bowl in 2015 for $7.5 million shekels.
Taking down the Chip Reese memorial trophy & $1.7 million for winning the $50k Poker Players Championship at the 2011 WSOP.
Taking down the Chip Reese memorial trophy & 1.29 million for winning the $50k Poker Players Championship at the 2016 WSOP.
That’s right, he’s won one of the most prestigious tournaments in all of poker twice. And none of this even touches on his sustained cash game greatness in the biggest nose-bleed games in the land.
Brian Rast is a surefire poker hall-of-famer (first ballot if I had anything to do with the process) and it is an absolute honor and privilege to share our conversation with you today.
In today’s episode, you’re going to learn:
The amazing story of how Brian met his wife and the ensuing mindset shift that relationship caused.
What it was like battling in the first ever $1 million Big One for One Drop.
Brian’s process for regularly improving his poker game.
    And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado, I bring to you one of the greatest minds in poker history Brian Rast.

#106: Matt Marinelli: High Stakes Cash Animal, Poker Detox Legend, & Co-Founder of BigBetU Jan 06, 2021
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is high stakes cash game animal, Poker Detox legend, and co-founder of BigBetU Matt Marinelli.
Marinelli was a long-time member and coach of the Poker Detox crew and another one of those guys I got to spend a fairly significant amount of time interacting with during the Atlanta Detox retreat back in March.
In a recent Poker Power Hour where Jason Su was guest hosting, Jason asked me why I thought Marinelli had reached the level of success he has and I told him that I just felt like the dude didn’t have an ego.
He’s not one to outright dismiss differing opinions or feel overly sensitive when another player critiques hisplay. He simply listens to the feedback, takes what he believes is valuable, upgrades his game, and then disregards the rest.
When you’re constructed in this way as a human being and surround yourself with some of the best poker players and minds on the planet, there is no alternative destination than experiencing massive poker success.
In Matt Marinelli and I’s conversation, you’re going to learn:
Why your poker tribe is everything.
Matt’s daily process for improving his poker game.
Why not all poker coaches are created equally and our suggestions on finding one who’s a good fit.
    And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado, I bring to you one of the very best online no limit hold ‘em players in the entire universe, Matt Marinelli.

Coach Brad kicks us off with a hand from $500NL Zone where he finds himself on the river with 9-high in a 3bet pot and only 15 seconds to make a decision. In the second half of the episode Jon shares a hand where he misclicks the turn and arrives on the river with 5-high.
Will Coach Brad and Jon be able to turn their lemons into lemonade? Find out now on Episode #8!

    #105 Landon Tice: 21-Year-Old Poker Supernova Dec 30, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s guest on the Chasing Poker Greatness podcast is poker supernova Landon Tice.
This was an especially meaningful conversation to me because I’ve been fortunate enough to experience Landon’s rising star from a pretty close distance. Back in March, which feels like two or three lifetimes ago, the Poker Detox crew had a company retreat in Atlanta where I got to hang out with Nick Howard and his crew for three or four days.
When I rolled up to their AIRBNB, none other than Landon Tice was the human who greeted me at the door (Playing online poker at the same time, of course).
It took me all of about 3 seconds to appreciate Landon’s passion for the game of poker and becoming the best poker player he could possibly be. Although that was a mere 9 months ago, what he’s done since is nothing short of astonishing.
Not only has he dominated some of the toughest cash games in the online world, but he also had his first 6-figure MTT score in November when he took down an $1,100 MSPT event for a cool $201k.
In today’s conversation, you’re going to learn:
How Landon has managed to progress his poker career at warp speed.
A Greatness Bomb on the relationship between graphs and volume.
How he’s built up an envious poker network for any aged human much less a 21-year-old.
    And much, MUCH more!
So without any further ado I bring to you one of the current and future stars of poker Landon Tice.

Tactical Tuesday #7: Finding Unnatural Bluffing Opportunities at Online $1K No Limit Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

On today’s show, Coach Brad and his student Jon will take a look at two hands that Jon recently played at $5/$10 6-max cash on Ignition. Jon tries to take advantage of a pair of spots on the turn that he believes are underbluffed by his player pool and more importantly are spots Jon believes his player pool perceives as underbluffed. Identifying and exploiting spots that the population you play against perceive as being underbluffed is one quick way you can work more bluffs into your game and boost your winrate.
