    Scripture: Jeremiah 31:29-30

    Topic: Family

    Notes:

    - There’s no guarantee your child won’t fall to sin one day- Desperate to have a good family, we blame others... even demons- There is no spirit of gambling, alcohol, divorce, cancer, etc... not in scripture; there is a spirit of lying, infirmity and fear- Out of desperation for our family, we lean on something besides God’s holy word- Everyone comes into the world under a curse... sin- You will never conquer your flesh in your own power- If we rely on what Christ gave us on the cross and live in the resurrection power of Jesus we’ve been made overcomers by His blood- The genealogy of Jesus lists sinful people (Tamar who seduced Judah, etc.)- Every family is full of sin but by the blood of Jesus we are saved

Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12; Isaiah 60:1-7; II Peter 1:19

    Topic: Focus

    Notes:

    - Book: “Jesus through Middle Eastern Eyes” by Kenneth Bailey- Who was Herod? A vile man, mixed up (Arab, Jew, Greek, Roman) but hated everyone not Roman- Who were the wise men? Wealthy from Arabia. Arab believers. Hundreds or more traveled together. East means “the rising”- Shepherds were poor Jews who came from fields to worship Jesus.- God had a plan... wise men watching for the signs... headed for Bethlehem when everything lined up... arrived first in Jerusalem- Herod gathered chief priests & scribes... sent wise men to find Jesus.- Sometimes we lose sight of the star... end up in the wrong place- People get more interested in church organization/politics than a relationship with Jesus

    Scripture: Luke 2:1-20; Matthew 15:3; Colossians 2:8; Titus 1

    Topic: Traditions

    Notes:

    - Warning against traditions that strengthen loyalty to an organization rather than Christ- People become bound to traditions as though equal to scripture- Scripture translated over time through cultural perspectives- Christmas wasn’t celebrated until 300 years after Jesus’ birth... Constantine declared Christianity the state religion- Nobody knows when Jesus was born... doesn’t matter when we celebrate Jesus’ birthday; don’t just remember Him on Dec. 25th- The traditional view of Jesus birth is incorrect... Jesus wasn’t born in a stable. Middle Eastern culture hospitable, Joseph of royal lineage, “inn” is a guest room in a private home.- Nothing wrong with bows lights and trees... unless we only feel this way once a year... if it takes this for me to have compassion on the needy... then it has become tradition...- Christianity is doing what Jesus would every day of your life- Can’t live at the start of something (Jesus’ birth); gotta move on- Jesus isn’t lying in a manger but sitting on a throne; live the life...- Christmas is about God coming to draw us to Himself and about God in us driving us to where people are, living in their midst

    Scripture: Luke 1:39-55

    Topic: Faithfulness

    Notes:

    - Mary’s visit to Elizabeth; baby leapt; Mary’s spirit rejoiced- I believe in generational blessings but not generational curses- God chooses the lowly, unwanted and left out- Come to Him humble and He will meet us- In 1998 went to Israel and fell in love with Jewish people- God has a plan for His people; replacement theology false- We are favored and blessed if we are saved- If God calls you He won’t un-call you- The law was given to redeemed people; He calls then instructs- There will be no revival until we have the heart of God for Jews- We must love the Jew and Gentile, Israeli and Palestinian

2010-12-05-1030 Pastor Loran Livingston is the speaker this morning December 5th, 2010 in the 10:30 service.

    Scripture: Luke 1:5-64

    Topic: Faith

    Notes:

    - Because of God’s love, Jesus came to save unlovable, lost people- Luke set out to write all he had heard into an organized presentation- Gabriel appeared to Zacharias to tell of John’s conception, an answer to his prayers, and that John would be filled with the Spirit- God doesn’t do anything the way you think He will, but He already has it planned out- Zacharias doubted and so was made mute; doubt and be silenced- Gabriel appeared to Mary who responded “according to your word”- Mary went to Elizabeth and John leapt in her womb; he and Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit- There is no set pattern; don’t put God in a box- Obey truth, walk in love, trust God and you’ll be filled w/ the Spirit- Trust God and there will be a song in your heart
