    Show notes

BREAKING NEWS: President Donald Trump and the First Lady Melania Trump test positive for the coronavirus and are now in quarantine at the White House. He tweeted early this morning, "We will get through this together." The news came hours after the president confirmed one of his top aides, Hope Hicks, had also tested positive. The president's diagnosis could put the brakes on his campaign plans, with just 32 days until the election. The Biden campaign has yet to say this morning how it's responding to the president's "positive test." A huge spike in COVID infections leaves hospitals in Wisconsin struggling to treat everyone.

    Show notes

President Trump says he knows nothing about the Proud Boys, the far-right group he chose not to condemn at Tuesday’s debate. Members of President Trump's own party are trying to distance themselves from the president's controversial remarks about the group. Tens of thousands of airline workers will be sidelined today, because passengers won't fly and Washington won't help. Some hospitals in Wisconsin say they're close to being overwhelmed by a surge in COVID-19 patients. The average number of cases is rising in 28 states. The devastating wildfires in northern California could get even worse today -- gusty winds are threatening to spread the flames. Kentucky's attorney general now has until noon tomorrow to release about 20 hours of secret grand jury recordings in the Breonna Taylor case.

9/30: The first presidential debate turns into chaos. Wildfires cause historic devastation in CA's wine country. Sep 30, 2020
    Show notes

For much of the debate, Vice President Joe Biden could barely finish a thought, as President Trump interrupted him at least 73 times. The heated confrontation gave the candidates little opportunity to debate policy. Several things the candidates said during last night's debate were at least partially untrue. A CBS News poll showed more viewers believed Biden won the debate, 48% to 41%. The poll found that 69% of people said they found the event annoying. The fourth major wildfire in three years is spreading in the hills north of San Francisco. The Glass Fire has burned dozens of homes and threatens thousands of others. It's one of nearly 30 fires burning in the state, where this year's wildfires have burned almost 25 times as much land as last year.

'Agents of Chaos': A Deep Dive into Russia's Interference in the 2016 Election Sep 30, 2020
    Show notes

Director, producer and writer Alex Gibney joins White House correspondent Paula Reid to discuss his latest HBO documentary - "Agents of Chaos." The two-part doc examines Russia's interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Gibney shares how he gained access into the Russian troll farms and how he got many of the key figures to sit down for an interview. He tells Reid why he believes Russia was looking to sow chaos in the United States and how the country was unprepared for asymmetrical warfare. However at the core, Gibney says Russia did nothing but expose division that already existed and what they did only worked because we are so polarized.

9/29: Pres Trump and Joe Biden prepare for a high-stakes debate. Three wildfires merge in CA's wine country. Sep 29, 2020
    Show notes

President Trump and Joe Biden face off tonight in their first presidential debate, our first chance to see them engage with each other after months of sparring. President Trump's financial dealings, as discovered by the New York Times, shows a pattern of massive losses, in stark contrast to the president's image as a successful businessman. A new wildfire outbreak in Northern California has turned deadly after at least three people were killed in the Zogg Fire, burning about 150 miles north of Sacramento. The worldwide coronavirus death toll has reached one million people in less than nine months.

9/28: A new report says Pres Trump barely paid income tax in recent years. Judge Amy Coney Barrett meets with lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Sep 28, 2020
    Show notes

A bombshell New York Times report shows data from the tax records President Trump spent years trying to conceal. It shows he's paid almost no federal income taxes recently, just 750 dollars in 2016 and 2017 and nothing at all in 10 out of 15 years before that. There are just 36 days to go until the presidential election, and the president's taxes are among the many issues sure to come up at the first debate tomorrow night. Judge Amy Coney Barrett will meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week after the president formally introduced her as his Supreme Court pick over the weekend. Strong winds are driving a new fast-moving wildfire in Northern California's wine country. New figures show the coronavirus is spreading faster in the U.S. Newly-revealed body camera video shows what appears to be the immediate aftermath of the police raid that killed Breonna Taylor in Louisville.
