    Catch my Killer

At any given time in the world, there are thousands of unsolved murders. Most of them will never be solved. The first 48 hours of a homicide are the most crucial to an investigation. Eventually, leads dry up, witnesses become less cooperative, and cases go cold (unsolved). Meanwhile, detectives continue receiving new homicide cases which push older ones to the back. After a case goes cold, it quickly becomes yesterday’s news. The public and the media will forget about the crime and move onto the next crime story.

But do you know who won’t forget about a cold case? The victim’s family and friends. They won’t forget because their case is more than a case file or news story. The victims were sons, fathers, mothers, daughters, or friends. Catch my Killer is a podcast that focuses on the victim’s surviving family and friends who give a voice to those who no longer have one. If you are listening and can help bring a killer to justice, please call in your tips. Even the smallest clue could be large enough to break a case wide open.

Episode 60: The questionable death of Lance Corporal Riley Schultz Dec 06, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode is about Lance Cpl Riley Schultz who joined the U.S. Marine Corps after high school. Riley Schultz, 19, was found deceased on March 15, 2019, at Camp Pendleton, in San Diego County, Calif. While on duty, he was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. The Marine corps ruled Riley’s death was self inflicted. However, his family doesn’t believe this. The family has been so desperate for answers, they exhumed Riley’s body so it could be reexamined.
The family found abrasions on his body and a fractured hyoid bone. To the family, it appears someone may have assaulted Riley before his death.
Misty Schultz-McCoy of Colorado is understandably upset about her son’s death. She knows he wouldn’t kill himself. He was looking forward to coming home for a visit and just enjoying life.
On the day of Riley’s death, he was scheduled to guard some company equipment between 3:50 and 5 am. Another Marine arrived to relieve Riley and found him deceased. What’s also troubling is that Riley’s family was originally told his death wasn’t a suicide. They then changed the decision.
If you know anything about Riley’s death, please contact the family. Please also visit the 🇺🇸 For Corporal Riley Schultz us FB page for more information about this story. Misty has also told me that you can also contact her through the 🇺🇸 For Corporal Riley Schultz us FB page or you can email her at misschultz123@gmail.com.

Episode 59: The disappearance of PFC Richard Halliday Nov 29, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode is about a young soldier named Richard Halliday who disappeared from Fort Bliss on July 24 2020. He is the son of Rob and Patricia Halliday. The family has had issues with the Army in their search for Richard. He is listed as AWOL and not missing which means he is considered a deserter and criminal.
The family knows this isn’t true. Patricia knows her son. He would never just walk away from his responsibilities and family without contacting them. He has family overseas, but none of them have reported seeing or hearing from Richard. They have had to do their own investigation into Richard’s disappearance. Patricia told me the local authorities won’t search for him because the Army has jurisdiction over him. And the Army won’t look for him because he’s considered a deserter. This has left the family in a quandary.
Listening to Patricia, it doesn’t sound likely that Richard walked away from his life. For one, he didn’t own a car and two he didn’t have any money. He also left his possessions behind. So how far would he have gotten without any money, a vehicle or his belongings?
Patricia doesn’t feel like her son is alive because she cannot believe he would go this long without contacting his family. She thinks it’s possible that he was killed within the confines of Fort Bliss or someplace nearby. No cameras picked up on him walking away from the base. So he couldn’t have just walked away unnoticed. Someone saw him and knows what happened to him. The family believes there are fellow soldiers who know more than what they are saying but may be fearful of saying anything.
If you know anything about Richard Halliday, please call the Fort Bliss military police dispatch at 915-744-2115, the Fort Bliss military police investigative office at 915-305-1015 or the family at 941-677-0060. And if you would like more information about Richard, please visit the Find Richard Halliday Facebook page.

Episode 58: The Brittany Stykes homicide Nov 22, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode is about a young pregnant Ohio woman named Brittany Stykes. She had a 14 month old daughter named Aubree and was pregnant with her second child. On the evening of August 28, 2013, Brittany and Aubree were on their way to visit Brittany’s parents. It was her father David Dodson’s birthday. Brittany was driving her yellow Jeep on U.S. 68 in Brown County, Ohio. Aubree was strapped in her car seat.
Unfortunately, Brittany never made it to her father’s birthday party. Someone pulled up on her and shot her and her unborn baby to death. The killer shot baby Aubree in the head. Miraculously, she survived and has made a full recovery.
Mary and David Dodds struggle with the loss of their daughter. Brittany used to call her dad daily to check up on him. He said she was a fixture at the family home. Father and son spoke about everything and shared a close bond.
Today, the Dodson family often visits a roadside memorial marking the site where a callous killer executed Brittany. David told me that Brittany was an amazing daughter. She had never been in any trouble with the law. She also didn’t have any drug or alcohol problems. David said she got along well with everyone. No one has ever determined a motive.
If you know anything about this case, there is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in Brittany’s murder. If you have information about this case, please call 937-378-4435 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-352-3040. You can leave an anonymous tip if you so choose.

Episode 57: The unsolved murders of cousins Jayden Ugwah and Montell Ross Nov 15, 2020
    Show notes

During the early morning of August 13, 2016, youngsters Jayden Ugwuh, 9, and Montell Ross, were playing video games and hanging out. The boys were cousins and best friends.
Unknown to them, two men had approached the house and began firing. The house was riddled with gunfire. It’s believed that over 20 shots were fired. At the time of the shooting, there were several other children at the house. This included both Jayden and Montell's siblings.
Montell was one of the first victims shot. Young Jayden fled the room to safety. But once he realized he didn’t see Montell, he rushed to get his cousin to safety. Jayden ran back into the line of fire to save his cousin. He was shot immediately. He managed to crawl into the arms of his older brother Jason before dying. Try to imagine what it would be like to be Jayden’s teenage brother. He has had to live with the memory of his little brother dying in his arms. It’s not something I want to even think about.
Four long years have passed since the death of these young boys. Their families miss them dearly. Aisha told me some of the surviving kids have been affected forever. For instance, some of them are fearful to be near windows. And they all live in fear because the killers are still roaming the streets.
So far, the police have said no one is talking. There are people who know what happened, but they aren’t talking. Do you know who murdered these young cousins? If you have any information relevant to this case, please call in your tips at 816-474-TIPS. You can remain anonymous. For more information about this story, you can visit the Montell and Jayden's Movement 4 Justice Facebook page.

Episode 56: No justice for PFC Lavena Johnson Nov 08, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode is about a young soldier named Lavena Johnson. I spoke to her father Dr. John Johnson, who is a psychologist. He shared Lavena’s story with me.
Lavena was his pride and joy. Dr. Johnson and his wife Linda were the parents of 3 sons and two daughters. Dr. Johnson said he took much pride in the fact that Lavena not only looked like him, but she also had his personality. They both shared a similar outlook about life. Lavena came from a loving home where family meant everything.
Although Lavena’s family hoped she would attend college, they supported her decision to join the Army. But life would take a turn for the worse for the Johnson family after Lavena was deployed to Iraq in 2005.
On July 17th, 2005, Lavena had a final conversation with her father. The two had made plans to decorate the Christmas tree together after she returned home to Missouri. Two days after that phone call, the Johnson family received a visit from a soldier with horrific news. Lavena had allegedly committed suicide in Iraq.
Dr. Johnson launched his own investigation into the matter. He has since learned that his daughter was raped and murdered. He has spent 15 years pleading for the Army to reclassify Lavena's death as a homicide and not a suicide

Episode 55: John Keith Bemis: Suicide or homicide? Oct 25, 2020
    Show notes

On August 7, 2012, Sue and Tony Bemis learned that their beloved son Keith had committed suicide because he couldn’t handle the pressures of his job. Keith’s parents and 4 siblings were in shock. They didn’t believe this was possible. Keith had no issues with mental health, he wasn’t depressed and had never shown any indication of wanting to harm himself.
Sue and Toni began looking into the circumstances. They were told that Keith had put on his motorcycle head and shot himself to death. But they became even more concerned when they saw photos of the death scene.
Someone had desecrated Keith's body and residence. Homosexual slurs were written on Keith's body and all over his walls. Whoever did this apparently wanted to send a message. Also, Keith wasn't gay. Within a few hours, the Navy ruled Keith's death a suicide. His parents said the Navy made the ruling without ever checking Keith's fingers for gunpowder residue.
Keith’s parents have spoken to people who knew Keith. They have been told by reliable sources that someone murdered him. They have also discussed Keith’s case with medical experts who also believe someone murdered Keith.. Tony believes more than one person may have been involved in killing his son.
Unfortunately, Sue and Tony have had no luck getting anyone to listen to them. For the past 8 years they have tried everything to get keith’s death changed from a suicide to a homicide. This has become their mission in life. Be sure to visit the following articles for more details about this case:

Episode 53: Who killed 15-year-old Scott Fosnaught? Oct 11, 2020
    Show notes

For this week’s episode I spoke to Ailive Rausch, who is the mother of a deceased teenager named Scott Fosnaught. Sometime after 1 a.m. on July 17, 2002, 15 year old Scott Fosnaught and his friend Shawn Baur who was also 15, had left a party and were walking home along Cashdollar Road.
A passing motorist driving along that road came across the bodies of Fosnaught and Baur, who were laying near each other in the road. Scott was already deceased. He had suffered major injuries to his chest area. Shawn was still alive, but barely. He had two massive head wounds. He was was rushed to the hospital where he would die from his wounds.
The boys were good friends and had spent much time together. They both lived in Evans City, Pennsylvania in Butler county. The Pennsylvania state police took the lead on investigating the homicides. But what they found was troubling. Based on the injuries, authorities believe the boys were struck by a vehicle. Scott’s body could have been hit by a car based on his internal injuries. However, it didn’t seem likely that Shawn was hit by a car. He had suffered severe trauma to his head. His injuries appeared more in line with being struck with a weapon than by a car. Also, if the boys were hit by a car, why was there no broken glass, paint chips or skid marks which are typically at the scene when someone is hit by a car.
Do you know what happened to these boys? If you do, please pick up your phone and do the right thing and call Trooper Deluca of the Pennsylvania State Police at 724-284-8100 or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477). There is also a substantial reward for any tips leading to the conviction of those responsible for killing Scott Fosnaught and Shawn Baur.

Episode 52: The suspicious death of Jaleayah Davis Oct 04, 2020
    Show notes

On the evening of November 11, 2011, Jaleayah Davis met her friend Kristin Bechtold. The two young women were supposed to have a night of fun and then stay overnight at Bechtold’s house. The two women met up with Jordan Campbell, Freddie Scott, and Katy Nelson. The three were friends with Bechtold.
But something would go wrong for Jaleayah that evening.
Jaleayah called her sister Taubi around 3:23 A.M., asking her sister to pick her up at a gas station. During the phone conversation Taubi said she heard Jaleayah tell Bechtold to “Give me my keys.”
Five minutes later, Jaleayah called back and changed the pick-up location to a rest stop off I-77. Taubi said that during this call, Jaleyah was crying, cursing and appeared angry at Bechtold. Jaleyah said she would tell Taubi what was going on when she arrived at the meeting spot.
At 3:48 A.M., a truck driver called 911 to report what appeared to be a dead body in the passing lane of the interstate. It was Jaleayah's body. She was decapitated and naked above the waist. Also, her clothing was neatly folded and laid on top of the guard rail. Jaleyah’s coat was at the bottom, then her shirt and bra were set on top of the coat. After a 16 month investigation, the police ruled Jaleyah's death an accident and close the case.
Kim and Taubi Davis disagreed with the ruling. Kim believes someone else drove Jaleayah’s car, accelerated it and then ran her over. After Jaleaya became lodged underneath the car, her head struck a guardrail post.
Kim believes the person who killed her daughter then tried to dislodge Jaleayah's body from underneath the car. Most likely, when her body was pulled from the car, her shirt, jacket and bra were pulled off. The accident theory doesn’t explain Jaleayah’s blood on the front of the car or underneath it. It also doesn’t explain how Jaleaya’s clothing was found neatly folded and placed on a guardrail.
If you have any information about the death of Jaleayah Davis, please submit your tips through the Justice for Jaleayah FB page. Kim and Taubi Davis are active on the FB page and will forward your tips to the proper authorities.
