Reforest Our World with Forest Planet and Circleb.co Sep 15, 2024
    Show notes

This week, we're sharing an earlier conversation with Hank Dearden, who we featured in October 2022. He runs a not-for-profit called Forest Planet, and he’s able to do something truly amazing – he plants trees for just $0.15 each.

How does he do it? By working within communities where the dollar goes further. He’s recently taken on a project in Morocco where they are planting fig trees, and where they are working to restore biodiversity, shifting from mono-cropped fields to biodynamic regenerative farms that incorporate more species, that reduce tillage, and that incorporate livestock. As he states on his blog page about their work in Morocco – which I’ll link to with show notes – The Right Trees, Planted in the Right Way, at the Right Time are an economically viable alternative.

Before I share the episode, I also want to remind you that I’ve decided to support Hank and Forest Planet this year as my charity of choice. I’m planting a tree for each active subscriber to our newsletter. So join our circle! Visit circleb.co and sign up today. I’ll plant a tree on your behalf!

And if you ALSO subscribe to this podcast on your favorite platform, be it YouTube, amazon music, apple podcasts, iheart or wherever you’re picking this up today – I’ll plant another tree.

Ending The Cycle Of Poverty Through Education With Dr. Abraham George Sep 11, 2024
    Show notes

India’s caste system may be deeply embedded in its culture, but it is hindering skilled and inspired young people from getting equal opportunities. Dr. Abraham George is on a mission to put an end to the cycle of poverty by making high-quality education easily accessible to the country’s lowest socioeconomic class. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, he shares about founding The Shanti Bavon School in India, a boarding school committed to guiding children from their first day of school to their first day of work. Dr. Abraham also opens up on how they keep the institution up and running even without government support and how it has positively impacted around 15,000 people.

    About Guest:

Dr. Abraham is a renowned philanthropist and social entrepreneur, best known for founding the Shanti Bhavan School in India. Growing up in India, Dr. Abraham saw social injustices at an early age, which he one day hoped to address. After a few years of service in the Indian Army, he moved to the US to study at NYU (Stern) and became a top finance executive and entrepreneur, leading companies like Credit Suisse First Boston and founding Multinational Computer Models, Inc. After 22 years away, he returned to India to fulfil his promise of empowerment and set up The George Foundation in 1995. The nonprofit supported ideas like Shanti Bhavan, Project Lead-Free, and Baldev Medical Center, and earned him the Spirit of India Award.

Combating Racism, Misogyny, and The Patriarchy | TikTok Creator - Karen @kclmft Sep 04, 2024
    Show notes

It is not easy to talk about racism, misogynism, and patriarchy these days, even though they severely mess up the present state of our society. Karen, who goes by @kclmft on TikTok, bravely discusses these topics on the internet, mainly to put down the horrible concept of Trumpism and Project 2025. She joins Corinna Bellizzi to share how she is being hunted by the former president’s MAGA crew as she uses her online platform to call out his racist and misogynistic behavior. They two also talk about the dangers of individualism, the importance of collective human action, and the right way to keep your own racism in check.

    About Guest:

Karen, whose handle on TikTok is @kclmft, is a women’s right activist who has a background as a licensed marriage and family therapist with over a decade of experience. She became involved in politics when Donald Trump came on the scene and she recognized his danger. Karen started making content online when she began receiving emails from his campaign, revealing the dog-whistles, the race-bating, and the all out calls to violence for all eyes to see. Because she’s been so critical of Trump, speaking out against his misogynistic behavior, his stoking of racism and division, and his connection to Project 2025, she’s under fire from Trump’s MAGA crew. For that reason, we won’t be revealing her full name, nor linking to her business on our podcast nor on our blog page. While she remains somewhat anonymous for the purposes of this interview, you are encouraged to find and follow her on TikTok @kclmft.

Christy Cashman explores our relationship with animals in her debut novel, The Truth About Horses. Sitting down with Corinna Bellizzi, she discusses her coming-of-age story about a young woman facing life’s unexpected challenges. Christy also shares about her non-profit organization mentoring young creatives in nurturing their artistic expression, shaping inspired individuals who know how to navigate the worlds of arts and entertainment properly.

    About Guest:

Christy Cashman is an author and mother with a diverse background in film, encompassing producing, acting, and screenplay writing—a journey that inspired her debut novel. Alongside her literary pursuits, she actively engages in various organizations, serving on the boards of the Associates of the Boston Public Library and the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, and supports numerous charitable endeavors, including Raising A Reader.

Her debut novel, “The Truth About Horses,” released in August 2023, has garnered heartfelt acclaim from readers, literary circles, and the equestrian community alike. Additionally, Christy has authored two children’s books: “The Not-So-Average Monkey of Kilkea Castle” and “Petri’s Next Things,” both inspired by the true story of a heroic monkey who resided in that historic Irish castle.

In 2021, Christy established YouthINK, a nonprofit dedicated to nurturing and mentoring young creatives, bridging them with industry experts to foster mentorship, inspiration and artistic expression. Originating in Ireland, YouthINK made its U.S. debut in August of 2023 in Boston with the immersive workshop “Decisions We Make—Macbeth.” Furthermore, she launched YOUthink Creative Wellness Retreats in 2024, providing guests with a spiritual, creative, and physical sanctuary while supporting YouthINK’s teen mentorship programs.
