Calm AF | Overthinking, Anxiety & Nervous System Regulation

Calm AF is a podcast about overthinking, anxiety, and learning how to calm your nervous system when your brain won’t shut off. It’s for high performers who look like they have it together on the outside but feel stuck replaying conversations, second-guessing decisions, and carrying way more mental weight than they should have to.

Hosted by Kristen Finch, this podcast names what’s actually going on beneath the surface—from anxiety and emotional triggers to the patterns that keep capable people feeling internally unsettled.

You’re capable, trusted, and high-functioning. The goal isn’t to fix you. It’s to understand what’s happening inside your mind and body so the inside can finally match what everyone else already sees on the outside.

Real conversations. Honest insight. Tools that help you stop overthinking and finally feel calm again.

5: Not everyone is gonna like you and that's okay. Nov 14, 2018
    Show notes

There are 3 types of people in the world: people who like you, people who don't and people who just don't care.

And which people do you spend the most time worrying about?

The people who don't like you! The people you NEED to like you.

When your self worth is based on other people's approval of you, you will lose yourself QUICKLY.

Today's episode is a pep talk over coffee all about why we need to STOP focusing on trying to get people to like us and instead focus on the people who already do!

3: What self care ACTUALLY is. Nov 02, 2018
    Show notes

You already know you're supposed to take care of yourself. And you'd LOVE to. But when? And how? I get it. The way self care is marketed to us women makes us think we need tons of time and boatloads of extra cash lying around. Massages, mani/pedis, girls nights out...they all sound amazing, aaaaaand...totally unrealistic.

Well, guess what? Those things are great if you can get it. But TRUE self care doesn't require money and only requires minutes a day. What I've learned in my own journey from overwhelmed, exhausted hot mess (who N E V E R took care of herself) to a woman whose self care is non-negotiable is that it's not massages, it's daily habits. Small habits you do each day that make your life better. That make you feel better.

That's why we're supposed to practice self-care, right? To feel better.

Here are some of the things I talked about in the show:

In this episode, we're talking about the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and why your thoughts (not your partner, your boss, or the guy that cut you off) are actually creating how you feel.

And I'll introduce you to my Rewire Process, which will help you identify the thoughts and learn how to shift them into ones that create better, more empowering feelings and therefore, more empowered behaviors. (Because what you think creates how you show up).

Why Fear Takes Over Your Brain (The Lizard Brain Explained) Oct 23, 2018
    Show notes

New to Calm AF? Start here.

This episode explains the "lizard brain" and why overthinking and anxiety take over your mind. (This was the very first episode of Calm AF—and it's still one of the most downloaded!)

If your brain jumps straight to worst-case scenarios, replays conversations, overthinks every decision, or freezes because you're afraid to make the wrong move, your lizard brain might be running the show.

In this episode of Calm AF, we break down the neuroscience behind fear, anxiety, and the brain's fight-flight-freeze response. You'll learn why fear shuts down your ability to think clearly—and how to calm your nervous system so you can make decisions from a grounded, rational place.

Your brain is divided into three parts: the primitive lizard brain, the limbic brain, and the neocortex—the part responsible for higher-level thinking, creativity, and problem solving.

    The problem?

When fear takes over, the lizard brain shuts down the neocortex… which means your smartest thinking disappears exactly when you need it most.

    Understanding this changes everything.

    In this episode you'll learn:

    • why your brain goes into fight-flight-freeze mode • how fear shuts down your ability to think clearly • how to recognize when your lizard brain is running the show • the simple shift that helps calm your nervous system and regain control

If you've ever wondered why you overthink, freeze under pressure, or feel like your brain is working against you—this episode will finally make it make sense.
