    Penn State portal fits

Blue White Illustrated has identified several vital positions that Penn State needs to address those positions include defensive tackle, offensive tackle, running back, and wide receiver. Those are the primary positions that T-Frank is pulling from when compiling his top-five list. The list includes two receivers, two linemen and one running back. He also starts and ends the show with an honorable mention that didn't make the list for various reasons. However, his final player might surprise you, so stay to the end to find out.

T-Frank also updates fans at the show's beginning on what Penn State news broke just before recording.

BWI Daily: Penn State transfer portal activity | Rose Bowl bound Dec 06, 2022
    Show notes

Despite the 2022 regular season ending a week ago, things are getting even busier for the Penn State coaching staff. The college football transfer portal officially opened on Monday, and a flood of names entered from programs all over the country. Making sense of all that is a full-time job, which is why the BWI Daily Edition focuses on the portal activity in and out of Happy Valley through the first 12 hours. Subscribe to the Daily on YouTube, so you don't miss the live show!

Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer will discuss the names and positions you need to know from the portal. They'll also take your questions and discuss the topics you want to discuss during the roughly 60-minute live show.

    Penn State portal update

It's been a relatively silent day for Penn State, considering what other schools have been going through since the end of the regular season. Still, the Nittany Lions have lost players in the process, which T-Frank and Bauer will highlight and discuss to start the show. Were there any surprises? They'll also discuss the larger issues around the portal and how it operates.

Next, they'll update fans with the players that have publicly announced Penn State offers on social media. T-Frank and Bauer will talk about those players and the brief overviews of what those players would bring to the offense, defense, or special teams. Next, they'll discuss the top positional needs of the Nittany Lions and what they'll prioritize in the coming months.

Finally, they'll put the day's information into context with everything else going on in the Class of 2023 with high school recruiting.

Next, Bauer and T-Frank will discuss Penn State's bowl destination and opponent. The Nittany Lions will play Utah in the Rose Bowl on Jan 2 in one of the last official games in the history of the event. What did head coach James Franklin say during his comments after the announcement? Bauer and T-Frank will discuss the matchup, and T-Frank will briefly preview what fans should expect from the Utes.

Lastly, Bauer and T-Frank will discuss the Penn State basketball team's beginning of Big Ten play this week against Michigan State and Illinois. Bauer will give a recap of what head coach Micah Shrewsberry had to say during his weekly press conference and what long-standing issue with the program he addressed with reporters.

The transfer portal is wide open, and Penn State has lost some players already. Find out who and which players Penn State is targeting.

BWI Daily: Penn State coaching staff heads south to secure Class of 2023 Dec 02, 2022
    Show notes

Penn State football is idle this week during conference championship weekend, but the coaching staff is still hard at work. Head coach James Franklin and his assistants are out on the road now that the contact period is open and are visiting committed players and key prospects to try and secure the Class of 2023. Today on the BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder discuss coaching movement and the latest news on several recruiting battles. Subscribe to the BWI Daily Edition on YouTube, so you don't miss the show! https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK

However, T-Frank and Snyder start the show discussing the latest on four-star corner Daniel Harris. Most of the On3 Penn State and national staff have put a pick in for Harris land at Penn State, but it has yet to happen. So what's the situation? Snyder and T-Frank discuss how the rollercoaster recruitment has gone this week.

Next, they discuss another important target that Penn State could hope to secure shortly. Class of 2024 running back Duke Watson has been publicly high on the Nittany Lions, but Snyder says there's some conflict internally about the staff accepting a committment right away. Why? Snyder says that it's not about talent but the opposite issue.

Lastly, Snyder updates T-Frank on the official visit list for Penn State's big weekend, starting next Friday. The Nittany Lions are hosting several significant prospects beginning on Dec. 9, and Snyder gives T-Frank a rundown of the latest additions. The list, and the conversation, are heavy on running back discussion with the uncertainty of veteran Keyvone Lee's status with the team this offseason. If Lee chooses to leave via the transfer portal, the current projection is that the team would have only one healthy scholarship running back. So Snyder and T-Frank will discuss that position's names and priority level next weekend.

Next, the duo discusses the college football playoff expansion and its impact on college football. The playoff committee announced that after next season, the playoff will expand to a proper 12-team format. Snyder and T-Frank discuss the wide-ranging ramifications of the sport and how they think things will play out in the coming years. They also discuss the impact that it will have on the Big Ten, conference alignment, and Penn State.

Lastly, they finish up the show by looking back at Snyder's performance on his Best Bets segment this season.

BWI Daily: The transfer portal threat is real Dec 01, 2022
    Show notes

The college football championship games kick off on Friday before the weekend sets the playoff picture; get the latest buzz on Penn State’s chances of heading to the Rose Bowl in January with the BWI Daily Edition. On today’s wide-ranging show, host Nate Bauer and Blue Wihte Illustrated Publisher Sean Fitz discuss that, All-Big Ten selections, and the latest roster news from this week. Subscribe to the BWI Daily Edition on YouTube, so you don’t miss the show! https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK

Fitz and Bauer start with Nate’s favorite topic, bowl selection. What’s the latest news on Penn State’s bowl destination? This weekend’s game may not matter at all, based on new reports. Find out how the Nittany Lions could skip the line and head to Pasadena in January.

After finishing up the discussion on bowls, the team turns its attention to the players who will or maybe won’t play in the game. Redshirt junior cornerback Joey Porter Jr. opted out of whichever bowl Penn State will play in and head to the NFL. The All-Big Ten corner missed several games to end the season thanks to an appendectomy at the beginning of the month but returned to play on senior day. He finished the game against Michigan State with 11 total defensive snaps and two targets.

So, who else might opt out of the game aside from Porter? Fitz and Bauer discuss the most likely names.

Next, they turn to the All-Big Ten selections that Penn State earned alongside Porter Jr. Both were shocked at where fellow corner Kalen King and safety Ji’Ayir Brown landed and bandied about other names in the discussion about which players landed with what team.

Finally, they dig into the most crucial topic of the show, the transfer portal. Penn State redshirt freshman quarterback Christian Veilleux put his name into the portal this week, marking the first soon-to-be departure when the portal opens on December 5th. There are other likely names, but it’s the unlikely names that Bauer and Fitz discuss.

That’s because Name Image and Likeness is going to dramatically shape college football because teams will begin the attempt to poach players from other schools with lucrative or enticing deals. How will they go about that? Bauer explains how he hears the conversation framed. Meanwhile, Fitz discusses how NIL will affect the incoming recruits set to sign in December.

BWI Daily: Penn State season recap | Olu Fashanu reaction Nov 29, 2022
    Show notes

Penn State football beat Michigan State on Saturday, 35-16, to complete the team's romp through November. Join the BWI Daily Edition to discuss the team's 10-2 finish, and get your questions and comments heard on the show. Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss the game and today's breaking news. Starting left tackle Olu Fashanu announced that he's returning for a fourth season at Penn State. The first-year starter became a household name this season for his excellent play and is turning down a potential first-round NFL Draft selection to return to Happy Valley. What sort of effect will this have on the team? T-Frank and Bauer will discuss and take your questions on the topic.

It's more good news for Penn State along the offensive line, something the team has been working hard to achieve. Starting left guard Hunter Nourzad announced that he plans to return for his final year of eligibility earlier this season. The Penn State offensive line worked through heaps of injuries this season, with Fashanu missing the final four games of the regular season. Nourzad missed several games in the middle of the year and returned to play through injury. Meanwhile, starting right tackle Caedan Wallace missed five games to end the year, and starting left guard Landon Tengwall had season-ending surgery in October.

Bauer and T-Frank will also discuss the game against Michigan State and how split Penn State fans are on this year's 10-2 record. They'll also take a broader look at the season now that it's complete and describe what this season represents for the program. It was a hot finish to the season after a crushing loss to Ohio State on October 29th. In the final four games, the team outscored it's opponents 165 to 40. They'll also discuss which players stood out this year and who surprised them by playing better or more than they expected.

Additionally, there's been lots of transfer portal activity this weekend around the country. So what should Penn State fans expect from the Nittany Lions, and how much can that change the team's fate this offseason?

Lastly, they'll touch on Penn State's coaches and the potential for the team to have coaches poached this offseason for head coaching and coordinator positions elsewhere.

BWI Live: Penn State survives Michigan State, look ahead to what's next Nov 27, 2022
    Show notes

The Nittany Lions ground out a tough win against Michigan State Saturday, winning 35-16 on senior day in Happy Valley.

The Penn State offense struggled to put points up once again. After rushing for 127 yards in the first half, the ground game went silent for the Nittany Lions, who amassed only 47 total yards in the third quarter and scored their lone touchdowns thanks to a muffed punt by returner Jayden Reed. Quarterback Sean Clifford was under constant pressure with few options downfield despite the hot start for the offense.

Things looked like they were going to be on cruise control heading into halftime. The Nittany Lions scored on a receiver pass from KeAndre Lambert-Smith to Theo Jonhson for 48 yards in the second quarter. Earlier, Clifford captained a drive down into the red zone where he found Johnson wide-open on a coverage bust for a touchdown. But Penn State couldn’t find consistency, failing to score twice thanks to two missed field goals from kicker Jake Pinegar.

On the flip side, the Penn State defense gave more points to Michigan State than it has in the last two games combined. Despite getting pressure on Michigan State starter Peyton Thorne, the coverage unit gave up big plays on third and long to help keep drives alive.

However, Mike Yurcich’s offense came through in the fourth quarter with a long drive to soak up time and yards before Nick Singleton raced into the end zone on a fourth down screen to put Penn State up by 12. The drive took 11 plays, went 75 yards, and ate up four and a half minutes of the play clock late in the game.

Three plays later, the Penn State defense closed the game out with a third-down interception by Kalen King, who had multiple pass breakups during the game. One play later, Clifford found KeAndre Lambert-Smith on a deep pass to put the game out of reach.

The Nittany Lions finished the season 10-2 and ended the season on a four-game winning streak. Penn State awaits the decision of the College Football Playoff Committee to find out its postseason destiny.
