Penn State football prepares for the 2023 season on multiple fronts during August. Today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, we discuss the players in the Class of 2025 that fans need to know. It's an early look at the next recruiting cycle, which will come into focus this fall with game visits for Penn State Football home games. Recruiting insiders Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz will break down their early favorites on offense in this Class of 2025.

Penn State News Update

Before getting to the Class of 2025, there's some recruiting news to cover this week. Penn State is on Jaylen Harvey's watch as the four-star defensive end could commit to the program anytime in August. The duo will briefly update the situation so fans are aware of the latest.

Next, they'll preview game visits for the upcoming season. Snyder tracks which players will attend Penn State home games this fall and will explain how the team chooses dates for select players and how the process works. Penn State football held its first open fall practice under head coach James Franklin on Saturday evening. The BWI Live crew discusses the environment and the mood on Saturday night, then breaks down what they saw and who stood out during the two-hour event.

Penn State camp strikes the right mood

Despite the weather, the environment for fans at Saturday night's practice was perfect. What did Penn State do to put on a good show for fans? Greg Pickel discusses what he liked about the setup and how he thinks fans should consider attending next year if the team decides to do another event like this. However, the weather was a significant factor on Saturday night, with driving rain that lasted most of the time the players were on the field. The show discusses how that impacted the event.

It was also the first time that Pickel or anyone on the show had seen a full Penn State practice before. Pickel describes what the day was like and how structured head coach James Franklin's event was. He also makes a comment about what practice, outside of the scrimmage, is like for fans that didn't attend.

Scrimmage takeaways

Next, the BWI Live show recaps the players and units that stood out during the competition portion of practice. Penn State put on a show for fans, working with the first-team defense against the first-team offense. The defense dominated a large portion of the scrimmage, and Pickel breaks down which players stood out to him, including new transfer running back Trey Potts.

But the defensive line was the night's story, with several players up front shutting down the Penn State offensive attack during the situational work. With veterans getting a rest after the first few drives, young defenders like King Mack, Tony Rojas, and others stepped up and made plenty of plays. Find out which other units and players were under the spotlight during the scrimmage.

While recruiting for the Class of 2024 is far from over, the work on 2025 is starting to heat up. Learn where Penn State falls on the list for 2025 defensive end Zahir Mathis. The top-ranked talent in the state for the next cycle cut down his 28 scholarship offers to 12 recently. What does this move mean for Penn State? Fitz will give some insight into the defender’s recruitment, which is just beginning.

Penn State fall camp began with an intensity in the air to start the 2023 season. Blue White Illustrated was on hand to check out practice on Wednesday and is here to give you an inside scoop on what they saw. Penn State Practice Report

Penn State's coaching staff opened practice on Wednesday night to begin the 2023 season. Bauer spent the 20-minute portion of practice with the defense and will review what he saw. He'll share which players stood out to him from a physical perspective and what interesting nuggets he gathered from positional drills.

Meanwhile, T-Frank focused on the offensive side of the ball and lasered in on the passing game. He spent the afternoon with quarterbacks Drew Allar, Beau Pribula and Jaxon Smolik. How did Penn State divvy up the passing reps during the first practice? T-Frank explains.

He also got a long look at the wide receiver position and noted which players stood out in the brief examination of individual drills and team passing portions of camp.

Penn State football capped off the summer recruiting schedule with a pair of minicamps over the weekend. Not only was it the last time for recruits to impress the staff at the final elite showcase camp on Friday, but this weekend was the Lasch Bash event for select recruits.

We discuss all of the important information from this weekend on the BWI Live Recruiting Show. Insider Sean Fitz was at both camps this weekend and shares his thoughts about what he observed. Meanwhile, Ryan Snyder caught up with several prospects who attended the Lasch Bash and will give his thoughts on his conversations with those prospects.

The Elite Showcase IV camp occurred Friday afternoon at the Lasch practice facility. Which players stood out among the hundreds in attendance? Next, he'll review what he saw from the Penn State offensive and defensive line commits and young prospects that competed during the exclusive mini camp on Saturday. Big Ten Media Days will ramp up again later this morning, but for Penn State head coach James Franklin and his players, their time in Indianapolis has already wrapped up. In addition to his podium press conference at Noon ET, Franklin also had a breakout session for 45 minutes on Wednesday afternoon. Offensive tackle Olu Fashanu, safety Keaton Ellis and edge rusher Adisa Isaac also had plenty to say ahead of one of the most anticipated seasons in a long time. Add in athletic director Pat Kraft’s comments on multiple issues and there’s no shortage of topics to discuss on today’s live show.

Penn State Football heads to Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday and Thursday so we're here to preview the event. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel break down what you need to know about the two-day event in Indianapolis that signals the beginning of the 2023 season.

Pickel, Blue White Illustrated's reporter on the scene, is heading to Indy later this week to cover the event. He'll give fans what he's interested in hearing, who he plans to speak with, and what other storylines he'll follow this week.

Penn Staters at Big Ten Media Day
