Penn State will lose a receiver to the NCAA transfer portal once the spring window opens on April 16. On3’s Pete Nakos reports that senior KeAndre Lambert-Smith is expected to look for a new college home starting next week. The idea of him moving on following the 2023 season was an oft-discussed one back in January. But, he returned for winter workouts and most of spring practice, which concludes with Saturday’s Blue-White game.

Here is an excerpt from the BWI Live Show on Friday afternoon, where Sean Fitz, Nate Bauer, and Thomas Frank Carr discuss the situation with Penn State's top receiver, our reporting on the situation, and where things stand.

    Ask Around: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/ask-around-whats-going-on-with-penn-states-class-of-2025/

The Penn State Nittany Lions Class of 2025 hasn't gone to plan for the last week. The team lost key recruits from the region to top schools across the country at key positions, including quarterback and defensive tackle.

So, what's going on with Penn State recruiting? Our industry experts at Blue White Illustrated have been following the team for nearly two decades and have seen this story before. Today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder will discuss the bad, and the good of Penn State's Class of 2025.

We'll also preview the team's upcoming chance to change the narrative, with four-star running back Alvin Henderson making his decision on Thursday.

Finally, we'll preview the upcoming Blue-White Game recruiting list. Join the show at 10 am on YouTube or check out the video embedded in this article. It's a good time to subscribe to the BWI YouTube Channel so you don't miss any of our Blue-White Week content or breaking news.

Penn State recruiting misses that sting

On today's show, we'll discuss the team's recruiting efforts with Matt Zollers and Trent Wilson. The possible top quarterback in the Class of 2025 chose Missouri over the Nittany Lions last week. Then, the regional prospect at wide receiver Romero Ison visited USC and committed quickly afterward. Finally, top defensive tackle prospect Trent Wilson, who was trending to Penn State, made an about-face and committed to Oklahoma after one visit.

So, what's going on? Our experts discuss the typical ups and downs of recruiting and what's expected at this point in the year. However, there's a new dynamic in recruiting now, which they'll discuss with several of Penn State's misses.

However, it's not all bad news. Synder and Fitz will discuss the remaining players that Penn State can still sign this year. The team has several four-star targets that they can add over May, June and early July to form a respectable class. We'll discuss some of those names and players today.

Will the team get a third running back?

In fact, one of those players makes his decision on Thursday. Four-star Alabama running back Alvin Henderson will choose between Auburn and Penn State today. Where does the team stand? Join the show to find out.

    Blue-White Game preview

Finally, the team hosts the annual Blue-White game this weekend, which is typically a great showcase game for the team's recruiting efforts. Is Penn State in line to get any commits this weekend? Who is coming to the game? Check out Ryan Snyder's breakdown from earlier this week that we'll discuss on today's show.

The Penn State Nittany Lions football team closes out spring practice this weekend with the annual Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium. Before that, they opened practice to the media for one final time. Join the BWI Live show today as we discuss what we saw and heard at the final open Tuesday practice of the spring season.

Senior insiders Sean Fitz and Nate Bauer discuss their practice observations from Tuesday night and other topics from James Franklin's press conference afterwards.

Specifically, we'll dive into Franklin's comments that he wants to make the Blue-White Game as competitive as possible for his Penn State team. In years past, coaches would split the group by the depth chart, with the third and fourth string on the White team and starters on the Blue squad. We'll discuss how that might play out this upcoming weekend. Will we see Drew Allar square off against Beau Pribula in the two-hour scrimmage?

The Penn State Nittany Lions conclude spring practice this weekend with the annual Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium. After four months without any football, every player might interest fans when they watch the two-hour scrimmage on Saturday. Yet we’ve tried to narrow the list down to five players on each side of the ball. Join us on today’s BWI Live Show to discuss who those players are.

If you haven’t yet, today is a great day to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. Penn State holds its final open practice of the spring period on Tuesday evening, so head coach James Franklin’s press conference comes to you tonight. We’ll also have great live content heading into the weekend on the BWI Live show. Join us at 10 am on Wednesday and Thursday as we review practice and the weekly recruiting news. Then, head to Nittany Cards Plus at 1631 South Atherton Street at 2 pm for our live Blue-White Game preview.

All of that, plus player interviews and more from Blue White Illustrated!

Penn State players we’re watching on offense and defense

Check out the show for the full list of players we’re most interested in on defense. Or, you can read the article on which today’s show is based. Here’s a snippet from the defensive article about the player most fans want to see at his new position.

    https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/five-penn-state-defensive-payers-we-want-to-see-during-the-blue-white-game/

It’s not just depth players who pique the interest of fans and media this year. We’re all about to see how Abdul Carter’s transition to defensive end is going.

Another fan favorite this weekend is freshman center Cooper Cousins. The five-star lineman has caused a stir so far this offseason with his continually impressive performance.

Simply put, Cousins is breaking the expectation curve for a freshman offensive lineman. Not only is he in a position to compete for playing time, but he’s also working for a starting job at center. Most linemen who play early find a role as a guard or maybe a tackle if they’re elite athletes. Cousins is taking on the dual challenge of a mentally taxing position and adjusting to college football.

While it’ll be hard to gauge how he does for most fans during the game, we’ll follow up after with film breakdowns to highlight what we see.

Where do Carter and Cousins rank? Find out by joining the show!

Wrestling Show: What's next for the Lions after their historic 2023-2024 season? Apr 05, 2024
    Show notes

Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson was clear about his team’s next steps following an historic 2023-2024 season that ended with eight All-Americans, four national champions, and an NCAA team title featuring a record number of points (172.5) by a record-setting margin (100).

“Just going to be ready for next year,” Sanderson said. “That’s what we do. We always think ahead preparing for the future. We’ll be back in the room on Monday. We love what we do, we love to train. We love the sport of wrestling. Happy for the guys.”

It might sound like a cliche, but it’s anything but. We tell you why on this week’s episode of the Blue-White Illustrated Penn State wrestling show. And, there is a lot to discuss.

One of the biggest days this spring for the Penn State football recruiting class of 2025 is here. Four-star and top-three quarterback Matt Zollers will make his college decision on Thursday. The Pennsylvania native is choosing between the in-state Nittany Lions, Georiga, Missouri, and Pitt. Blue White Illustrated's recruiting experts, Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder sit down on today's BWI Live Recruiting Show to discuss what might happen at 4 pm when Zollers announces his decision.

Join the show live at 10 am or catch it on replay embedded in this article. As always, subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel so you don't miss any breaking news, player interviews, and more!

Penn State's final push for Zollers- Was it enough?

Penn State made their final in-person pitch to Zollers last Friday, hoping to convince the four-star quarterback to join the class and stay in-state. We'll discuss how that trip went, our insiders' feedback, and what they think will happen when Zollers makes his announcement. We'll discuss the potentiality, impact of a commitment, and fallout of missing out on a top-50 player.

But it's not just Zollers who made a decision this week. More recruiting news is bubbling with another high-value regional target this week. Four-star defensive tackle Trent Wilson narrowed his list of school down to four contenders this week. Snyder doesn't think the new bodes well for Penn State. We'll ask him why and what he thinks will happen with another top prospect on the Nittany Lions board this summer.

Are official visits no longer an indication of interest?

We'll also dedicate a show segment to an interesting question from a Blue White Illustrated message board member. The question was originally for the Mailbag show on Wednesday but was too good of a conversation to leave out of today's recruiting show. Now that official visits are an unlimited resource, do they still matter the same way? Are they an indicator of true interest or can players schedule a plethora of visits just to see different schools?

    Upcoming visits

Finally, we'll end the segment by discussing the upcoming Happy Valley visitors during the penultimate spring football weekend. Our experts will explain why tackle Nolan Davenport, running back Marcello Vitti, linebacker Justin Hill, wide receiver Jacob Washington, and tight end Mack Sutter are interesting players to consider.

Join the show to ask your questions of today's experts! We'll be answering questions from the live YouTube chat during today's show.

    Linebacker depth article:https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/penn-state-defensive-domino-effect-franklin-lays-out-complications-of-moving-abdul-carter-to-edge/

    Film Room: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/penn-state-defensive-identity-coming-into-sharper-focus-this-spring/

The Penn State defense returns talent and depth this season, but some parts of the roster need to work themselves out before the start of the 2024 season. On Today’s BWI Live show, we discuss how the linebacker position is shaping up through spring football. We’ll also discuss how Jaxon Smolik’s injury affects now third-string quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer. Join the show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube, or check out the replay embedded in this article.

Penn State defensive adjustments a work in progress

While Penn State fans are excited about Abdul Carter’s move to defensive end, the team still needs to sort out details about the move. Head coach James Franklin preached caution about the move being a slam-dunk positive for everyone involved this spring.

“Moving Abdul to defensive end, everybody’s excited about but it has an impact on our linebacker room, too,” he said last week.

We discuss the issues that moving Carter created for the team’s linebackers and what that group needs to do to make up for the loss of an impact player at the position. Franklin thinks that it will take time beyond spring football.

“So hopefully, they’ll finish out the spring on a real positive and have a really good spring game and go into the summer with some confidence,” Franklin said. “And then again, a couple of weeks into summer camp, feeling like we have depth there. Because right now, ‘we’ve got to create some more depth there to feel good about.”

Jaxon Smolik injury puts a new spotlight on Ethan Grunkemeyer

Blue White Illustrated’s Ryan Snyder broke the news this week that backup quarterback Jaxon Smolik would miss extended time with an injury suffered this spring. During today’s Ask T-Frank segment, we dive into what this means for the team and four-star freshman Ethan Grunkemeyer. What should Penn State fans know about the former top-ten passer in the Class of 2024? We’ll discuss his spring so far.

Freshmen who could contribute this year

Finally, we end the show discussing the Penn State freshmen who could have an impact and burn their redshirts this season. While Cooper Cousins is an obvious favorite to do so, who could join him? We make the case for running back Quinton Martin and several defensive players.

However, there are fewer roles or spots for incoming freshmen than there were several years ago. We discuss that dynamic to end the show.

The Penn State Football recruiting team has another massive visit weekend lined up, headlined by one of the most important players in the Class of 2025. Spring-Ford quarterback Matt Zollers visits this weekend before heading down south to see perennial powerhouses Alabama and Georgia. Zollers will then make his decision next Thursday. It's Penn State's last chance to win over the hometown, top-ten QB.

Quarterbacks come into sharp focus on today's show with the next crop of passers visiting campus this past week. Join the BWI Live Recruiting Show at 10 a.m. with industry insiders Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz. We're live at 10 a.m. on YouTube, or you can catch the replay embedded in this article.

Penn State's last pitch to Zollers

If you've followed the show over the last few months, you're well aware of how important Zollers is to the Penn State football team. The Pennsyvlania native is the thrid-ranked quarteback in the On3 rankings for 2025 and is the team's top target at the position. Will they be able to keep the top-ranked talent home? We'll discuss the outlook during the show.

But recruiting never rests and the race for a top 2026 prospect is already on. Florida quarterback Dia Bell, California's Troy Huhn, an top passer in 2026 Fazion Brandon all visited the program this past week. Where does Penn State stand with the next group of passers? Fitz and Snyder discuss what spring visits mean this far out in the recruiting process.

Receiver once again a hot topic

Until the Penn State offense produces a consistent passing game, the receiver position will be a hot topic in recruiting. There's been news over the last week regarding some of the top players at the position in the upcoming recruiting class. Find out what work receivers coach Marques Hagans has been doing this spring.

Official visits start in roughly a month and there's a large number of wide outs that have confirmed they plan to see Penn State this summer. Beyond that, the list of official visitors came into focus over the last week. Join the show to discover who is joining Penn State for an official look at the program.

    Spring visits this weekend

We'll end the show as normal at this time of year; by previewing the important names visiting campus for a spring football visit. Which players will join Zollers at Penn State this weekend? Learn more about the list by joining the BWI Live Show at 10 a.m.
