BWI Daily: Penn State - Wisconsin Preview with Greg Pickel Aug 30, 2021
    Show notes

Penn State travels to Wisconsin for one of the toughest openers in school history when they face the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel of Blue White Illustrated give you an early preview of Wisconsin and what to expect from the Badgers.

They start by taking a look at the 2020 season for Wisconsin, which was tumultuous and rocky because of COVID 19, with multiple missed weeks and cancelled games. Sandwiched between several good wins, were some rough losses that T-Frank points out as to why you might want to think twice about having the Badgers as the runaway favorite.

Greg also gives you a preview of what to expect from the Wisconsin offense, which is not the same ground and pound attack that you're used to seeing from the team from Madison. They discuss Graham Mertz, the passing attack and how Wisconsin has changed several things in their arsenal since the last time the two teams met in 2018.

T-Frank and Greg take a look at the Wisconsin offensive line against the Penn State defensive line and see who has the advantage in the trenches, before looking at the Badgers' defense and the strength of the team, it's secondary. Finally they give game predictions and Greg gives you the line and where he's putting his money.

BWI Daily: Final Training Camp Update (Offensive Line Battle Breakdown) Aug 26, 2021
    Show notes

Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor of Blue White Illustrated Nate Bauer give an update on their observations from Penn State's training camp. The Lions held their final open practice of training camp before game week and they give their final observations about key positions, battles and players as the team is separated into the two-deep.

T-Frank starts by asking Nate what starting safety Jaquan Brisker said to him as practice interviews wrapped up that was both interesting, and noteworthy. They discuss what Brisker said about his quarterback Sean Clifford and if they think he's accurate.

T-Frank adds some information to that topic by telling you what starting tight end Brenton Strange said about one of the receivers who has stepped up this camp to take a bigger role in the offense.

Then they discuss the offensive line situation and how James Franklin left one key position battle very much open heading out of camp and into the regular season. Bauer gives his insight into what he's seen and how murky the picture still is at left guard.

T-Frank gives you a couple of 'looks like' observations from camp of players who have stuck out both good and bad in the brief views of practice they've had.

They transition back to the offense and how it will operate as a system under Mike Yurcich, which is spurred by some comments made by players and coaches this offseason in terms of what to expect of the style of play on the field.

Finally they discuss the new college Football alliance between the Pac 12, ACC and Big 10.

BWI Daily: Confidence Factor (Pt 2) With Nate Bauer Aug 24, 2021
    Show notes

As promised, host Thomas Frank Carr brings in other experts to give their confidence in Penn State's roster by position in a series called "Confidence Factor". T-Frank and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss each positional group and how confident Nate is that that position group will play up to their level of expectation. Here is T-Frank's chart for what each number means.

    CONFIDENCE FACTOR CHART

50 or Below: Barely holding their own on the field to actively hurting the team

60-69: A position with some good plays and players but most a support member of the team.

    70-79: A group that can produce an mid-tier All-Big 10 candidate

80-89: A group with a surefire All-Big 10 selection and most likely a first-team conference player with the production to match. 90+: All-American Consideration, national awards candidate.

They go through the roster to determine where they feel good, or unsure about the unit that Penn State is fielding.

BWI Daily: Confidence Factor (Pt. 1) Aug 23, 2021
    Show notes

Host Thomas Frank Carr has taken you through the Penn State training camp on the Daily Edition and now he gives you his assessment of the roster by position.

He starts with the quarterback position and tries to paint a picture of what starting quarterback Sean Clifford can be in 2021 by looking at what he has been the in the past. Then he gives you how confident he is that that can become a reality.

Next he examines the skill positions starting the with deep and talented tailback group. Can they break out and lead the team? Is there a star in the group? All of that is involved in his confidence in the position.

The exact opposite is true of the receiver position, with top-heavy talents but questions marks at every other part of the depth chart. Can Jahan Dotson and Parker Washington carry the team? The tight ends are a talented group, but can they match that potential?

Once again, the offensive line is talented, but the tackle position does carry some question marks outside of left tackle Rasheed Walker. The interior is the biggest mystery on the entire team.

Next he switches to the defense and looks at the defensive end position and how it might be the shakiest part of the entire team. The defensive tackles next to them are next. How do those two units work together?

The linebackers are next and potential breakout players are backed up by huge questions marks. The secondary rounds out the day starting at corner and heading to safety before T-Frank gets to the most underrated position on the team, slot defender.
