Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best — Society & Culture
Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best

It’s me, your friend Busy Philipps! My creative partner Caissie St. Onge & I love making things that we believe people need & will love & we’ve had so many plans. We had plans to do a TV show that would shake up late night! And we think it kinda did! For six months. We adored our genius, scrappy creative team at “Busy Tonight” as much as we loved our audience, so when we broke the news that we’d been canceled, we vowed to get back up & make even bigger plans to invent a whole new way of doing things in the entertainment biz, to reunite our beautiful staff & change the game for everyone! An entertainment Utopia! And we were so close, then…the world changed. Now those plans are, at the very least, on hold. So, we’ve shifted gears, like everyone has had to, & with our friends, we’re just doing our best, taking it slow & talking to fascinating friends about how *they* are doing *their* best. They’ll tell us all about those times in their lives when a setback actually led to the right thing. Maybe it was a job that didn’t pan out, but opened the door to an even more perfect one, or maybe it’s how they studied for years to do the thing they thought was their calling, only to fall into something else that felt like kismet. The thing is, we want to share those moments because right now EVERYBODY is having one of those moments. Maybe we’ll all learn something life-changing or maybe we’ll just have a conversation where we break down in tears, then laugh at ourselves for crying. Whatever happens, we can assure you, Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best!

Also, the conversation somehow keeps turning to the scientific properties of pee? And Busy explains her unfortunate dog park encounter with a stranger while slightly high. WAY TO F*CKING GO KANSAS! Aug 03, 2022

Show notes

This week’s episode is entitled “Way to F*cking Go Kansas!” even though, as of the time the podcast was recorded, Busy & Caissie did not yet know the outcome of the vote on the constitutional amendment to remove protections of abortion rights in the Sunflower state. But now we all do & it is reason to celebrate, even if it’s with a podcast title that doesn’t necessarily reflect the content of the podcast. What IS in the episode? Well, Busy explains how she completely forgot about the month of August, how she got boned in a dress deal, and how being non-separated from your future ex-husband can be a challenge, especially at lunch time. She also reveals what it was like shooting a TV show episode as her kid’s co-star. Caissie shares that she might have bought a bad car & names names on who sold it to her, then belatedly offers an analysis of what she feels would have made “House of Gucci” a better film. Other topics include reheated calamari, a near-disaster birthday party, running for political office and the clitoris.

100th Episode - with Brian Baumgartner Jul 27, 2022

Show notes

It’s #BPIDHB’s 100th episode and Busy and Caissie are fired the f*ck up about climate change, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee being canceled, Matt Gaetz’s face and more. However, they are also celebrating some things, including Ben Affleck’s snoozing-on-a-yacht honeymoon pic, and carefully weigh if they have what it takes to become entrepreneurs and not get into a “Pink Sauce” situation. A product called “Hot Sauce for Your Butthole” is also discussed. Then, Brian Baumgartner, the man responsible for one of TV’s most beloved characters, Dunder Mifflin’s Kevin Malone, joins the podcast to talk about his days on “The Office” as well as the most pivotal moment in his life, plus what might be the secret to his incredible popularity on Cameo and his shared history with Busy as high school speech champions. Then, Busy and Caissie describe an experience they shared this week that brought them so much joy, and the new cover photo for the podcast!

(You’ll understand once you listen.) Caissie describes how she believes she has undergone menopause in one day. Then! The uniquely talented Jenny Slate visits the pod to talk about her new film, “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” which is in theaters now and, guys, she is just a real treat. First Of All, I Can’t Afford Cocaine Jun 22, 2022

Show notes

It’s Busy’s birthday week and…she might not be feeling it this year? But, her light team did perhaps lead her to discover something intriguing about her family history. And Caissie describes how she did herself a great deal of harm by making a bad decision while wearing extremely wide-legged jeans. PLUS, they’re joined by Sierra Teller Ornelas, a TV writer who has worked on a bunch of exceptionally good shows and is now the co-creator & showrunner of the wonderful “Rutherford Falls” on Peacock! Sierra’s got a pivot story that reminds us how we sometimes have to take a big swing and bet on ourselves.
