Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best — Society & Culture
Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best

It’s me, your friend Busy Philipps! My creative partner Caissie St. Onge & I love making things that we believe people need & will love & we’ve had so many plans. We had plans to do a TV show that would shake up late night! And we think it kinda did! For six months. We adored our genius, scrappy creative team at “Busy Tonight” as much as we loved our audience, so when we broke the news that we’d been canceled, we vowed to get back up & make even bigger plans to invent a whole new way of doing things in the entertainment biz, to reunite our beautiful staff & change the game for everyone! An entertainment Utopia! And we were so close, then…the world changed. Now those plans are, at the very least, on hold. So, we’ve shifted gears, like everyone has had to, & with our friends, we’re just doing our best, taking it slow & talking to fascinating friends about how *they* are doing *their* best. They’ll tell us all about those times in their lives when a setback actually led to the right thing. Maybe it was a job that didn’t pan out, but opened the door to an even more perfect one, or maybe it’s how they studied for years to do the thing they thought was their calling, only to fall into something else that felt like kismet. The thing is, we want to share those moments because right now EVERYBODY is having one of those moments. Maybe we’ll all learn something life-changing or maybe we’ll just have a conversation where we break down in tears, then laugh at ourselves for crying. Whatever happens, we can assure you, Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best!

This week, Busy and Caissie are ready to put some of their recent grief aside to talk about other things, like Prince Harry’s new book, and some huge news out of Massachusetts where Ben Affleck and J. Lo were spotted at two local Dunkin’ Donutses. Will there be a commercial we can all enjoy soon? Fingers crossed. Then one half of musical duo Sylvan Esso, Amelia Meath, joins the team to talk about how she cares for her creative self, how much it sucks to get yelled at by people online, what it’s like to have brunch at Chris Martin’s house and whether or not Busy should date David Byrne.

Ship Happens Dec 21, 2022

Show notes

This week, Caissie confesses a strange addiction, while Busy details her misadventures in Christmas present shipping. They both share their thoughts on the Harry and Meghan docu-series and Busy recounts a time when she jokingly called out a young male star on James Corden’s show for standing her friend Kelly up and lying about it. Both women mourn the loss of one of Hollwood’s hottest bad boys, P-22, which then turns a little deep and a little dark and very existential, because Busy has gotten stoned. Finally, Busy is up in arms about the Vyvanse shortage, and how it is affecting women who have been diagnosed with ADHD, which leads to a conversation about how many prescription drugs are currently in short supply. Is it a conspiracy theory? Also, is it okay for celebrities to not admit they’re using Ozempic to lose weight? Trigger warnings: discussion of abuse, death and disordered eating.

Sarah Jones Nov 10, 2022

Show notes

This week, Busy & Caissie are a day late because they didn’t want to record on Election Day when everything was all nerves and no answers. Thank you for waiting!!! But, now that most of the votes are in & Busy’s IBS has settled, they discuss the midterm election results so far, plus Busy tells the stories of the time she crossed Big Cereal and about what happened when she got caught accidentally shoplifting. Then, playwright, actress and poet Sarah Jones swings by to talk about her new “unorthodocumentary,” Sell/Buy/Date (executive produced by Meryl Streep, y’all) based on her massively successful off-Broadway play. Show notes

This week, Busy shares more about her big Girls5Eva news and how the difficult jump from Peacock to Netflix was accomplished. She also describes an ingenius Trick or Treat candy delivery system she saw being deployed in New York City, which Caissie then kind of ruins for everybody. Plus, find out why Busy was not at Heidi Klum’s annual and legendary Halloween Party, while Caissie celebrates the official beginning of “The Christmas Quarter.” And, because this is a safe space, Busy confesses to not knowing what a popularly used acronym means, which everyone can probably identify with even if most people probably know the acronym in question.
