Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best — Society & Culture
Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best

It’s me, your friend Busy Philipps! My creative partner Caissie St. Onge & I love making things that we believe people need & will love & we’ve had so many plans. We had plans to do a TV show that would shake up late night! And we think it kinda did! For six months. We adored our genius, scrappy creative team at “Busy Tonight” as much as we loved our audience, so when we broke the news that we’d been canceled, we vowed to get back up & make even bigger plans to invent a whole new way of doing things in the entertainment biz, to reunite our beautiful staff & change the game for everyone! An entertainment Utopia! And we were so close, then…the world changed. Now those plans are, at the very least, on hold. So, we’ve shifted gears, like everyone has had to, & with our friends, we’re just doing our best, taking it slow & talking to fascinating friends about how *they* are doing *their* best. They’ll tell us all about those times in their lives when a setback actually led to the right thing. Maybe it was a job that didn’t pan out, but opened the door to an even more perfect one, or maybe it’s how they studied for years to do the thing they thought was their calling, only to fall into something else that felt like kismet. The thing is, we want to share those moments because right now EVERYBODY is having one of those moments. Maybe we’ll all learn something life-changing or maybe we’ll just have a conversation where we break down in tears, then laugh at ourselves for crying. Whatever happens, we can assure you, Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best!

Busy and Caissie are back early from their spring break. Or is it late? They’re talking about the Oscars and the thing that everyone is talking about, while also wishing some people were talking less about it, while also being a little hypocritical by continuing to talk about it. And they know it. Busy also shares a personal story of a less public, but public nonetheless, emotional outburst. Plus they discuss how hard it is to remember how to be a person in the world right now. WARNING: This episode contains discussion of physical violence and suicide.

Wristful Thinking Mar 09, 2022

Show notes

This week, Busy tells a story about her injured wrist, with a twist! Plus, Caissie shares a theory she’s long had about Paula Deen & her fears of various kinds of doors. Then…something truly weird happens with an animal at Caissie’s house, followed by something truly weird happening with an animal at Busy’s apartment. Both things are hard to explain, so you’ll just have to listen for yourselves, which you probably were going to anyway? We hope?

They discuss the latest NFT nonsense, Biz fills us in on the rest of her trip to Sweden & Caissie can’t say a word about why she’s in NYC, not even to Busy. (Don’t worry. She’ll tell you if there’s ever anything to tell. But there might not be! Who knows? Not her!)

We've Lost the Thread Feb 16, 2022

Show notes

This week, Busy & Caissie got the podcast all finished early because Busy was flying to Europe. But then after a couple days in Sweden, Busy felt like that episode wasn’t really them doing their best. So they scrapped it & recorded a new one with Busy calling in from the deserted spa & sauna in her hotel. Was she wearing a robe? Yes. Did she walk by people having a fancy dinner in the lobby restaurant in that robe? Also yes! Plus, they talk about what it means to “lose the thread.”
