Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast

The one and only Gilmore Girls AND Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast brought to you by comedians/real life couple Bryan Morris & Stacey Kulow. Bryan grew up obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Stacey is a huge Gilmore Girls fan, but neither of them have ever seen the other’s favorite show. Together they watch their way through both excellent 7-season series, discussing an episode from each show every week, in an attempt to figure out which show is better. Bryan & Stacey are New York-based writer/performers, both born and raised in the Midwest. They met doing improv in Madison, Wisconsin and have been together for over a decade.

    Gilmore Girls S2 E15: "Lost and Found"/Buffy S2 E15: "Phases"
This week's all about men showin' us just how lame it is to not wear your testosterone on your sleeve. Who knew one little bracelet could cause so many lies? And Luke gets back at Lorelai for all the times she demand he stop working to help her with something. Meanwhile Xander and Larry bond over a secret. Too bad it's a misunderstanding; with his growing list of love interests, Xander could really use a male friend to confide in. Apparently the women of Sunnydale are just fine with dating monsters. And Bryan and Stacey try to figure out what dirty words the kids are using these days.

    He's With Her!? Feb 23, 2021
    Show notes

    Buffy S2 E14: "Innocence"/Gilmore Girls S2 E14: "It Should've Been Lorelai"
Wow, this Buffy episode gave us Emmy-worthy acting and spawned a pretty explicit conversation about the logistics of vampire sex. Turns out Angel's maybe not a great boyfriend, but Stacey is very into this turn of events. Christopher's in town, so you know that means a big juicy kitchen fight. Bryan cannot handle Paris any longer and NEEDS to rant about it. Get ready for some deep Gilmore Girl character analysis in general. Plus, you won't believe what Bryan and Stacey do with spaghetti.

Stupid Traditions We Gotta Respect Feb 16, 2021
    Show notes

    Gilmore Girls S2 E13: "A-Tisket, A-Tasket"/Buffy S2 E13: "Surprise"
Who knew a wholesome little Stars Hollow picnic tradition could stir up such relationship drama? We've got breakups. We've got engagements. We've got emotional affairs. We've got Miss Patty matchmaking for Lorelai, despite having way too many potential suitors already. But hey! It's Buffy's birthday! So her broke-ass friends rent out the WHOLE bronze for an 8 person party! Meanwhile Dru's having a party in honor of just 1 guy, but he arrives in 8 parts. Plus, Miss Calendar's weirdo uncle comes to town with a WHOLE lot of new information.

Burden of the Family Feb 09, 2021
    Show notes

    Buffy S2 E12: "Bad Eggs"/Gilmore Girls S2 E12: "Richard in Stars Hollow"
This weeks' episodes show us how hard it can be to care for a child... or parent. Lorelai manages to keep herself from strangling her annoying father, while Joyce quite literally tries to kill her secret superhero daughter. Buffy learns that being a single mother is much harder than fighting vampire cowboys, and maybe that her boyfriend's dick don't work? Richard gives Lorelai a very unprofessional lecture about workplace professionalism. But despite his wild theories about coffee, he makes some solid points about cars being built by children.

    Creepy [C]Ritter[s] Feb 02, 2021
    Show notes

    Gilmore Girls S2 E11: "Secrets and Loans"/Buffy S2 E11: "Ted"
Sneaky little Emily tricks Lorelai once again! Bryan's getting tired of Paris, and apparently so were the writers of this episode, switching over to a Lane story halfway thru. And we imagine an alt ending where Luke goes full Frank-N-Furter. Over in Sunnydale, Joyce is dating John Ritter, so blinded by charm that nary a red flag does she see. Xander was very fun, helpful, and not problematic this week, which might have had something to do with being drugged by a killer robot. And you'll never believe what our neighbor is up to now!

    Retirement Options Jan 26, 2021
    Show notes

    Buffy S2 E10: "What's My Line (Part 2)"/Gilmore Girls S2 E10: "The Bracebridge Dinner"
Lotta "wigging" happening this week. Seriously, both shows use this now retired word in episodes where characters are grappling with retirement. A joke about footnotes really tickles Giles, Kendra, AND Stacey, while a one-word joke from Rune REALLY tickles Bryan. Jess and Angel try to tell Rory and Drusilla that Dean and Spike aren't man enough for them, respectively. Maybe they're right? Or maybe they should respectively let these ladies figure things out for themselves. Plus, Stacey apologizes for a childhood crime involving a toilet.

    Kiss Voyers Jan 19, 2021
    Show notes

    Gilmore Girls S2 E9: "Run Away, Little Boy"/Buffy S2 E9: "What's My Line (Part 1)"
Things don't go so great for Tristan this week, and Bryan is HERE for it. The mysterious arrival of an ice cream maker sends Lorelai into a downward spiral, culminating in her dating a much younger man. On a related note, we're doing our best to move past the age difference between Buffy and Angel, but the show keeps bringing it up! As always, Buffy just wants to have a normal life, but sometimes that means fighting off bounty hunters on date night. And you won't want to miss Bryan's dark tale about a school "project."
Stacey's show, She Said She Said, will be live at https://www.twitch.tv/sketchnyc at 9pm EST on Thursday 1/21/21.

Visitors From the Past Jan 12, 2021
    Show notes

Buffy S2 E8: "The Dark Age"/Gilmore Girls S2 E8: "The Ins and Outs of Inns"
A literal demon from Giles's past come back to haunt him, which drives him to drink TWO drinks, shaking the teens to their cores. Despite all this, Ms. Calendar is ready to bone, but will the blue demon ooze hurt or help things along? Stacey learns Angel has a human name, which is SHOCKING, and we learn all about English Tizzies. Over in Stars Hallow, where the judicial system is hazy at best, Lorelai appears to be suffering from angina amnesia. So far neither of us like Jess, but we loooove Bootsy. Why isn't he a bigger character?

The Consequences of Being Social Jan 05, 2021
    Show notes

Gilmore Girls S2 E7: "Like Mother, Like Daughter"/Buffy S2 E7: "Lie to Me"
The Gilmore Girls are forced to get more socially involved at Chilton, though Lorelai's been arguably TOO socially involved at Chilton? We share some of our own cafeteria social drama. Turns out one of us was "oobs pops." Also Bryan absolutely hates Lorelai's fashion show fundraiser. Meanwhile, an old friend of Buffy's shows up with a complex, yet hole-filled plan for his own social status. Angel exploits Willow for free child labor, and we maybe caused our neighbors to have a domestic dispute?

Fantabulous Gowns for Man Winning Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

    Buffy S2 E6: "Halloween"/Gilmore Girls S2 E6: "Presenting Lorelai Gilmore"
This week both of our teen heroines donned old fancy dresses for the purpose of enticing men, which actually seems pretty dumb in both cases. We're lead to believe that a woman is completely undesirable if she has a small scratch on her face or single piece of trash in her hair. Apparently Giles has a whole dark and mysterious past? And Spike has an AV crew? Also yes, we clearly don't know much about debutante balls, but Bryan does maybe know a guy named Debutante Paul?
